I'm a retired commercial fisherman that was raised on the Mississippi River , Kentucky & Barkley lakes. My Dad, brother & I always loved fishing for giant brim and crappie when we weren't working (which wasn't very often). Dad always used CRICKETS and a cane pole. I'm so grateful to my brother for letting me know about the FISHING MACHINE. I've learned so much from you MR. GENE I REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR VIDEOS.

brim. Crappie are usually the most sought after of the two.

Great video Richard, it brought back several great memories! Beetle spin has been around for year’s and your right, it’s one of the deadliest lure’s on the market. With so many choices of lure’s these days the beetle spin has been a forgotten lure. Late 80’s and 90’s that’s all I needed to have success on any body of water. This video has resurrected the past! I’m going to bass pro tomorrow and load up on beetle spins!! Thanks again Richard for another DAM good video. Wooooooooooo..

One of the best things about you and your channel is that I can trust what you say. Unlike a lot of other RUclipsrs, you havent sold out to sponsors or companies who want an "influncer". You are a terrific "influencer" it's true, but not one who is for sale or rent. I am sure beetle spin sales are going to go way up because of this video, but I believe they should because they are actually a good lure as you correctly point out. Your honesty, integrity and willingness to tell the truth are as important to me as your amazing fishing knowledge. I even believe as I write this, that you will actually read it and I hope that reading it will warm your heart a bit. Merry Christmas to you and Yours,

I tie and paint my on Crappie Jigs. I paint my jig heads with power paint, after I paint my jigs. I paint over the jig with Sally Gibson Hard as Nails clear finger nail polish. If you get some power paint in the color you want to color your spinner. It will be a brighter color and last a very long time on the spinner blade. Just heat the spinner blade a little with a candle and dip it in the power paint. After the spinner blade cools off. Paint a little Sally Hinson clear finger nail over the spinner blade and the painted spinner blade will last even longer. Thanks for your tips. I love your videos!! Please keep them coming!!..

Richard you make me cry, why? Well you remind me of my good friend Peter whom I fished with for years. Mostly it was Crappie. Once we were fishing West Pt in January and we did pretty good, and I said as we cooked them that this was the first taste of spring. That stuck as Peter always said it or called me if got crappie in January and I wasn’t able to go. He is gone now and you and him were so similar that it makes me cry as I miss him so. Just remember “ The first taste of spring” !
