This is a look at a 10 year old Gaming Phone from 2014 & how nice and compact it's form factor is. Something similar is what I would like to see come out from Sony / GPD / Asus ---------------------------------------------- The Era of pocketable handheld gaming devices is probably over. Just look at the Switch 2, its even bigger now. Post Notes: • Root from factory is hella sketch yes lol • Yes I forgot about Final Fight • I bought it in FEB 2024 for $80 each, soon after buying the listing was locked Video is reaching outside my main core audience So welcome, and I would love to hear your feedback : )
I don't know about that. I have an Odin 2 Mini and it plays alot of Switch and PC games (via Winlator). It lasts a good while and fits in my pockets. Phones are starting to use solid state batteries, and with advancements on ARM chips, I'm pretty sure we can be running alot of AAA games on pocketable handheld devices. I hope a company like AYN or one of the other handheld makers releases a device with the Snapdragon 8 Elite, or whatever their next* CPU is, because it'll be great for the portable gaming scene.
I hope one of those company you mention remake the PSP go maybe 5 to 6inch screen. if the game controll dosent support the android games you can slide it back and use like a normal phone.
Honestly, I feel like this just shows how well the Vita nailed handheld design (particularly given they basically just lifted the layout and software style lol). Given the MT6592 only supports 3G anyway, and most 3G networks are now getting shut down, the benefit of making calls and texts is either irrelevant or soon will be, and I feel like the Vita is just a much nicer device to use and play on. For modern devices the attitude seems to be you either buy an extra clip-on controller or just live with touch controls, sadly. If you're interested in a Vita nowadays, no clue how many get sold, but try and get one of the original "Cellular" PCH-110X models - they have a much nicer OLED screen, are still moddable to hell and back, and if you're willing to open it up you can swap the now useless 3G modem with a MicroSD adapter card to give it as much internal storage as you need while still retaining access to the game card slot (which you'd otherwise have to fill with an SD2Vita) and avoid Sony's stupid proprietary cards.
I remember wanting this phone so bad back in the day. It was so expensive and there was no way I could afford it. However, now I have a Retroid Pocket 2S and I love that thing. It plays all the systems I want to and it plays them well. PlayStation/PlayStation 2, Psp, Gamecube, Dreamcast, and N64. Plus the RP2S retailed for only 150.00. I seriously couldn't be happier with it.
aesthetically and form factor wise, this definitely looks lovely. we have a lot of modern handhelds like this but their design definitely screams more modern sleek whereas this is 2010s sleek and I kinda miss that. it actually does feel like it follows in the PSPs footstep aesthetically. it'd be fun to see one with a design like this again even if we have stuff pike Retroid pockets or Odin's now.
Holy crap! I would have adored this phone! I would buy a modern phone with this form factor! Sony's been sitting on the patent for design and did nothing!? Not surprising at all
My dream portable gaming console would be a steam deck but a phone with detachable / attachable controller, so if you bought it that would include a bag for the controller and charger. Just imagine it's a phone that can play cyberpunk 2077.... A man could dream
I want pocket-ability, if I really wanted ill take with me a small portable controller, its going to be bulkier than a phone with detachable controller and more comfortable. The detach and battery and wireless comms for the detachable controllers will eat up a lot of space, wont be as sleek anymore
@@TotalKommando I mean that's the bag for, cause this days most people uses those shoulder bags for other accessories while the i guess you can call it The Steam Phone/ Portable Steam Deck would fit in your pocket and yes technically the idea is not that portable but hear me out... Whut if said phone was design like either the ps Vita or I guess the 3ds but the 3ds version design would be a hybrid of those Samsung folded phones + 3ds, that would make it more of a pocket but it still be bulkier and heavier then most gaming phones cause it both designs has a controller design into the phone
@@TotalKommandoI wanted to buy this device (Snail Much W1) a couple of years ago, but it was not sold anywhere((Where did you buy it? Is it possible to buy it again? Can I get a link to the product?

I was a big fan of the Xperia Play PSP Go phone, since it had a slide out controller, back when slide out keyboards were cool. Give me a smart phone with a controller on the face, and a slide out keyboard, and I'd be blown away.
@TotalKommando while I agree somewhat, especially with the tiny shoulder buttons, and not recessing the dpad or abxy (those were a bad choice), I was still excited for it because the W1 was my daily driver for quite a while, especially being great while I was working a night shift job. More power was what I was excited for.
@@TotalKommando It absolutely was. I had a great wave of nostalgia when you brought up the GTA trilogy on it. I also played Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath and Terraria on it.
I had one in black! I ultimately sold because it was just not comfortable unfortunately. DPAD was hard to press and the concave nature made it impossible to really use effectively for a lot of DPAD centric games. It was very cool though, and I would buy a newer iteration in a heart beat. Snapdragon Elite series is great, and really could make this shine. Or better yet, give me a proper slider with that chip set.
I kinda wanted one of these Much gaming phones back in the day, but they were always hard to find, and when I did find them for sale they always seemed overpriced compared to similar (non-phone) android handhelds with similar specs. If I had been able to find one (or an Experia Play) for a decent price back then, I would have definitely made it my daily driver, so I could stop lugging around both a phone and a separate gaming handheld with physical controls. Funny you should mention that GPD should take notes... JXD (the company GPD's engineers did designs for before they started their own company) also made a gaming phone similar to this a couple years prior. Unfortunately it was pretty much one of their previous Android handhelds that was barely distinguishable from a PSP, with a cell antenna and simcard slot slapped on. Worse yet, the battery they used had a tendency to explode, so it did not do very well and seemed to scare them away from making any more gaming phones...
Only 2gb ram and it's over 300? Buddy my phone has 8gb ram and cost less than that. For $50 I got a decent gamepad. Now I have an entire ps2, GameCube, and everything before them in my pocket. Not to mention the PC ports I can run flawlessly. Dedicated gaming phones are going obsolete fast. They're good for long sessions of cod mobile or switch emulation. But tbh my phone can do the same if I add an external fan. And it's a mid range budget phone.
@TotalKommando yeah I got that 😂😂 my autistic ass always jumping in the comments before watching the whole video. Still, interesting to see how big a difference there is between a 2014 dedicated handheld and a budget phone 10 years later.
Ahh it might be a while, if you are keen you can use the 2000 model one, its very similar, few differences in screen clip, media bar, wifi antenna, and same placement but different connectors. I do reall wanna do the 3000 so I can put together Smokey 3K version
@ I actually recently broke an LCD of a 3000 because I didn’t know about the screen clip. The video I was using forgot to mention it and e ended up forcing it and I destroyed it. I originally opened this 3000 to fix a D pad, which I managed, but I destroyed an original 3000 LCD in the process. I am not opening a 3000 anymore before your video.

Is this a 3000 model? Does it happen without a battery too? Could be a dead super capacitor causing weird issues which you can just remove without replacing or the main battery is dying.
@@TotalKommando yes it is a 3000 model and without the charger i can play for hours on end and if it is a the super capacitor is it okay for a person with no exp to tackle this problem
