@@Fitzroyfallz I saw him with FM too. Saw Crowded House several years ago. Neil was CH. And he had such incredible energy. "Together Alone" has to one of the finest albums ever.
Neil said he wrote this in a afternoon. Some people had come over to his and his wife's house to hang out and he was just in one of those moods where he wanted to be alone...so he left them in one room and went into another by himself....and this song flowed out of nowhere. He's so fantastic.
I remember the 80s pretty well my friend. It was my childhood but it was a reality. Things were different, calmer and more fun. The world seemed so relaxed and people weren't so displeased with everything. We actually didn't survive by keeping our phones in our pockets, we wrote letters and had pen pals. We walked miles to go see friends and stayed out till the sun went completely down. Neighbors got along in most neighborhoods and we even had occasional neighborhood parties. I think about the 80s often. I'm blessed I was a part of it.

A beautiful song, one of my all time favourites. Always loved that instrumental break, so concise and perfect. Crowded House were a great live band, and the inter- band banter and the wonderful rapport with their audience was always great fun. It was so sad when the original drummer, Paul Hester, committed suicide in 2005, he was always clowning about on stage, but it clearly masked a recurring depression. I wish he could have taken this song to his heart, and not let his demons win.
Michael Lynch there were so many genres in the 70s it was a great time in music ,glam rock ,rock, disco, straight on pop and even some folk music popped in
Totally agree - I grew up in the 80's and it had good music but I always listened to 70's music because it was the most creative and diverse decade of music.
Fleetwood Mac thought so much of Neil that they have recently asked him to join their group for touring. He adds a rich layer. Yes he was and is a genius from NZ
I always loved this song but it wasn't until I was in my 30's (I'm almost 50 now) that I really listened to the lyrics and really took them to heart. The line: 'In the paper to-day, tales of war and of waste/ But you turn right over to the t.v. page' is especially poignant to me now.

Yay for awesome Kiwi songwriter Neil Finn. He and his brother, Tim, wrote so many great songs as both Crowded House, and my favourite, Split Enz. So much great music from the Finn brothers Crowded House: Into Temptation, Better Be Home Soon, World Were You Live, Four Seasons in One Day, Weather With You, Distant Sun, Something So Strong, It's Only Natural, Mean to Me Split Enz: I Hope I Never, I Got You, History Never Repeats, I Walk Away, My Mistake, Shark Attack, I See Red, One Step Ahead, Six Months in a Leaky Boat, Message to My Girl, Poor Boy, Dirty Creature, Give It A Whirl. No one ever reacts to Split Enz. I find that a tragedy.

I got to meet and hang out with these guys on tour. All three were kind , friendly , and sharing with the entire staff. They welcomed us backstage and shared craft services with the whole gang. Great memories thanks to these guys.
I saw Crowded House at the MTV Video Music Awards on September 7, 1988. They performed "Better Be Home Soon" and they presented for Best New Artist In A Video. Guns N' Roses won for "Welcome To The Jungle." They walked right by me when they were going to the stage. I was so happy.
Neil Finn, and his brother Tim Finn had a band before this that had tons of great songs, called Split Enz. They started as a quirky performance art type band, but with serious musical chops. They transitioned into new wave when Neil was old enough to start really contributing writing and took over most of the lead singing duties. Try " I Got You" and " Six Months in a Leaky Boat."
JBL, I am one of those people. I was a kid in the 80's growing up. I didn't appreciate or even like a lot of music at the time. I now appreciate it and enjoy it as well as your reactions. Thank you.
I am a child of the 80s and I have to agree! SO much good music in ALL genres - pop, r&b, rock, country, soul - everything. And it was pre-Internet, which was also AMAZING. People actually talked to each other and weren't taking 10,000 pictures of themselves. Try "Luka" by Suzanne Vega from 1987.

@@jodavey7709 Yes - some of the group were Australian. Tim and Neil grew up in Te Awamutu, the other end of the country from me. Crowded House are iconic here. And we love that Neil's abilities have allowed him to find greater fame, working with Fleetwood Mac.
Hey James - one of the best songs of the 80's, totally agree with you. Neil Finn's former band, Split Enz, had some great songs too - feel free to check out "Dirty Creature", or "I Got You" Keep em coming, so much great music to find in the 80s.
One of my favorite songs of all time. I may have been one of the ones who requested it. It came out when I graduated high school and that summer I went through that huge transformation of losing contact with so many people I grew up with. It was a hard time & this song was comforting. Thanks to social media change hasn’t lasted forever. I agree with u about 80’s music. I so love the 80’s.
You made me cry like a baby with this one. I remember the day I heard that Paul Hester, the drummer from Crowded House had lost his battle with depression the previous night. We lost a great musician and a true gentleman that night :(
Something so strong by them is fun too I love Crowded House don’t dream it’s over I still have my 45 sing along all the time I was totally 80’s and still am always be I cherished it then and now ❤️
When you said this is a master piece and the writer is a genius you were not wrong, this band is no one hit wonder having had a string of world wide hits in the late 1980s and 1990s. The singer and song writer is Neil Fin from New Zealand and the other 2 are from Australia. This song was theme song for a Stephen King movie.
This is my all time favorite song. My music is wide spread and I have more 80's lyrics in my memory than useful knowledge. I believe this song is timeless. I don't have the words to explain how this song affects me. ♥️ you!
Neil Finn the lead singer wrote this. He is a genius. He has been one of my fav miso/ song writers along with his brother Tim Finn. They were in Split Enz together. They are New Zealanders but us Aussies claim them as our own. Please review Four Seasons in One Day where the brothers sing together. Magic
I can be at Walmart’s and hear this song (if I’m lucky) and the lighter goes up...not a real lighter, but still. The hand is raised, the swaying commences...great memories! Thank you!
Well said. In the 1980's we had no idea that pop and rock music would soon start to drop in quality. Today it's barely music at all and it stimulates no deeper feelings or thoughts. RUclips channels like yours are keeping great music alive and in a place where youngsters can access it. Personally, I don't think that rock is dead but that it will eventually evolve into something that kids can hook into again.
Crowded House's Fall At Your Feet, Into Temptation, Don't Dream It's Over, Weather With You, Pineapple Head, & World Where You Live, all great tracks !
Paul McCartney said that God Only Knows by The Beach Boys is the song he wished he had created, for this song he only praised the writing but didn't say that.
This song is perfection. What makes a great song - who knows, but it is indescribable how to list every single thing that this song has going for it. Magical; intangible... I agree with you, the writer is a genius.
Crowded House had so many good songs. Neil Finn is a genius.

Love that you're doing a New Zealand song. Reckon you'd be a great bloke to have a beer with if you ever make it this way
Shock Lobster there was one Kiwi and two Aussies in Crowded House mate.
@@scottmclennan6114 well true but you guys have enough bands Haha. Feel free to Russell Crowe though
Shock Lobster fair enough
@@scottmclennan6114 who wrote the song though lol
Australia 🇦🇺 adopted them they are great
Neil Finn, and his brother Tim Finn had a band before this that had tons of great songs, called Split Enz.
Thank you.
This is one of my top 10 songs from the 80s. I just love the vibe it puts out
I am a child of the 80s and I have to agree! SO much good music in ALL genres - pop, r&b, rock, country, soul - everything. And it was pre-Internet, which was also AMAZING. People actually talked to each other and weren't taking 10,000 pictures of themselves. Try "Luka" by Suzanne Vega from 1987.
Kia ora(hello) I subscribed about a month ago....loving your reactions brah all the way from Aotearoa (New Zealand) ....so keep being you my bro & you will have more followers 👍
The music industry wasn’t’ geared toward and full of children back then. Thought I might point that out.
Please, please, please react to "Weather with you" from Crowded House
And Four Seasons In One Day! James - Neil Finn now sings and plays as part of Fleetwood Mac.
"Private Universe" "Together Alone" All great songs
Crowded House - two brothers and group from beautiful New Zealand
Neil Finn still tours - sell out crowds 💜
@@jodavey7709 Yes - some of the group were Australian. Tim and Neil grew up in Te Awamutu, the other end of the country from me. Crowded House are iconic here. And we love that Neil's abilities have allowed him to find greater fame, working with Fleetwood Mac.
One of my all time favorites. I remember very well when it was climbing the charts.
Everything about this song is a masterpiece from the lyrics to the melody.....it truly is a beautiful song.
Don't Dream It's Over is one of my favorite songs it's Magical the music the lyrics and the Golden Voice Love Crowded House👍🌟
The line "Try to catch the deluge in a paper cup" really hits home for me.
Check out Keane -"Somewhere only we know'. beautiful
SUCH a beautiful song!!! I had that on repeat on my ipod for months! :D
Probably my favorite of the young bands of that time.....and The Frey!
80's music the best ever! You made this 80's chick cry because it WAS so special to me. Thanks, sweetie!
Him and his brother Tim Finn were in a band called Split Ends also fab. Worth hearing. They are from New Zealand and unbelievably talented.
I’m a gen X 80s girl forever and even today this song is in my playlist. ❤️
This song is the song used in a Steven King movie. The writer is Neil Fin, the singer you can see and hear
Im a new subscriber. I love this song, brings back memories of the 80s. Thank you for all your great videos 💙💙💙
This is my all time favorite song. My music is wide spread and I have more 80's lyrics in my memory than useful knowledge. I believe this song is timeless. I don't have the words to explain how this song affects me. ♥️ you!
one of my favorite songs from the 80s. Good song to feature. Thanks.
I love how music brings back memories of the song or life. Sometimes I remember the movie it was in. It is wonderful how music can engage every sense.
I was a child of the 80s and yeah, it was a great time to be alive. No cell phones, no weirdness. Well, different weirdness. And mostly great music.
