    Ya!! I landed my first kickflip at the age of 28 in 20 Jan 2023 before my next month birthday!! I have been practice this since July 2022. But I discovered that I had slightly left knee MCL torn, so I take a break for a month and small surgery,then go back to keep practicing my kickflip.
    It's so high when I got my first kickflip in entire whole life! I could never forget the feeling!! Especially I started to learn at 24 years old.. I couldn't imagine that I landed first kickflip before the age of 30!
    It's happy to see you guys share your first kickflip which encourage so many skater to keep practice, which including me.
    Yessss , Never give up, keep practice consistently and you can land too!

      Same as you, haven't skated since 2007. Bought a skateboard recently and I'm learning everything again, and Jonny's videos are helping me a lot. Something seems wrong with my ollies though, I can do it but I think I'm putting too much pressure on my back foot, my left thigh hurts after a few tries and the pain lasts for like two or three days. Not sure if it's the lack of exercising, when it happens I completely lose strenght to pop any tricks.

I took 2 years to learn my first kickflip, I was wondering why I can't learn it, and I realized that a company makes a lot of difference, I skate alone since I started, so the second tip is this, look skating with a friend, even if they don't skate with you, but a company makes a lot of difference. I would like to get from barely landing this trick, to actually catching it mid air like you. I’m afraid to do it, but I think I know how to practise. Every time I try it over a little obstacle, like a stick or a plank, I’m forced to do a higher kickflip, but I’m too scared to commit in catching it high and land it. Any tips?

    • @louispg3d858
      @louispg3d858 4 года назад +36

      The rail trick? The one in the video. Just hold onto something. And you won’t be afraid to catch it. Get used to catching it and landing on the board and then try it on flat ground until you get it. If you don’t, just go back to the rail trick and practice over and over again. If you are still afraid to commit. There are no actual tips to make you commit. The only thing is to 100% commit and don’t think about falling or anything bad.

      Practice makes perfect! I had trouble with my kick flips the first time I started learning them it took me 4 months to fully understand the timing and how to make my kick flip higher. Make sure you practice them as much as you can.

    • @clublulu399
      @clublulu399 4 года назад +40

      Fear behind landing a trick is totally normal. In my eyes, there’s no real shortcut to beating it. You gotta face the demon and risk the chance of falling. The more you fall and get back up, the more resilience you build to being knocked down. It’s like an armor upgrade after every fall. I guess my tip would be to build your armor up to the point where the thought of fear is completely absent.
      Also, don’t face demons that are much higher lvl than you. You’ll just get knocked down harder. In other words, don’t go Olliieng down a 5 stair set when you’re just learning to Ollie sort of thing. Ask yourself whether you’re ready for this fight at all times.
      With enough practice and will power you’ll be able to face any demons that stands in your path.

    • @yvngpsychonaut
      @yvngpsychonaut 4 года назад +4

      ClubLulu yo chill with the demons😂. Just practice it’ll eventually click in your head. Also you don’t really have to deal with the fear factor most of time as long as you’re comfortable on your board. And make sure you got ollies down and know how to time them once you get it down then start practicing your kick flips.

    Thank you for finally making a kickflip tutorial that addresses my issue on getting my feet back on the board! Used to skate when i was 14 (im 24 now) and still have my ollies on lock and can get the board flipping pretty good but can never get my back foot on the board by the time it lands. I will practice (and practice and practice) with this new knowledge and hopefully be able to land my first one thanks to you. Very well explained tutorial, and i like that you take your shoes off to show foot positioning. You earned a sub my friend, much thanks.

    @Jonny Giger I just got back into Skateboarding after almost 12 years of not doing tricks and I gotta say I appreciate your approach on how you explain the methodology of the trick and mentioning the variety of options for foot placement,method of learning how to land, and showing what can go wrong with landing and how to fix it. I think this is the secret sauce in your methodology and I hope you continue to mention what can go wrong as much as technique.
    Thanks for bringing a different angle to skateboarding and showing people you can have fun on flat ground and that the possibilities go beyond a kick flip,shuv-it, tre-flip and beyond!

    I landed my first kickflip a little while ago and it's such a great feeling, but I am rarely able to land one these days mainly because of the lack of trying them each sesh and the only reason I don't want to try them is because I don't want to waste my shoe on failed attempts and it is such a bad mindset to have 😒.
    It's very different trying to skate when you are the one paying for all your stuff and really don't want to waste it so quick

      thats a sad feeling, try to get a skate only shoes, buy some hot glue, ShoeeGoo, silicon etc... and repair that shoes until you cant no more, I bought a $25 shoes, and $5 shoegoo, and i just fill everything and try to make them last longer. Damaging your shoes are part of skateboarding.
      If you dont have money for nothing, use some really old shoes that you dont use, if you can´t, find a way to get some shoes that you can damage, and buy some $0.25 silicon, melt it and repair your shoes.

    Been afraid to even try this but this video inspires me. One tip I've found in the first few minutes of practicing from tail position 4:09. Prop your back wheels on something higher than the tail. Something like a thick book or wood plank. This allows you to practice your flicks with the board in a more vertical position.

    • @skateboardingnotrocketscience
      @skateboardingnotrocketscience 4 года назад +1

      how advanced are your ollies? how high can you ollie and do you land bolts on your ollies? to me landing with uncomfortably close feet usually happens with new tricks when i land them first times, mostly because I barely land them. like there's no time for me feet to move back to a comfortable and stable shoulder apart position because the trick is "done" before I am ready. when you get more comfortable with a trick and you're doing them higher your feet get more time to get back into place. practicing to deliberately pull your legs apart after the flip might help, in order to stay safe best land with one foot only on the first tries

    As a 47 year old the one realistic New Years Resolution that I made with myself for 2023 was, nailing kickflips. My pal's resolution at the same party was nailing bboy flares. I've skated from age 10 until about 23. My friends and I were out there skating all the time, but I never mastered kickflips. Looking back I realized why. First of all, I was kicking down in the middle of my deck rather then forward across the nose. My biggest flaw was, as pointed out in this tutorial, letting my shoulders and body sway open, not stating in line with the direction I was headed in. Watching this I know I'm gonna start landong kickflips like nothing else.

Back when I first learnt to kickflip there were no tutorials (no internets!!) and it was a matter of overhearing dudes who could pick stuff up really quickly by watching pro's explain to others how the mechanics of the body played out. It took me 2 years to land a single kickflip!!!! by then i could land double kickflips, shove-its, reverse 180 flips and 360 flips but couldnt pull off a single kickflip so i stuck to what i found easy to learn.
    I'm gunna follow your tutorial bro- until i get it down. All makes sense now hahahah!!!!
