  • Replacing The Traction Drive Belt and Attachment Belt on old Ariens Snow Blower 926101 from 2005 - In this video I take apart my Ariens Snow Blower (2005 Sno-Thro) model 926101 and replace the traction drive belt. This video also demonstrates how to get to and replace the attachment belt. It’s not an easy job, but I did it with one hand on the camera. I made this video in order to refer to it in the future since I usually have to repair something on the snow blower every few years. The V-belts and other parts can be purchased directly from Ariens and their website is easy to use. Prices on the Ariens website are fair in my opinion and cheaper than purchasing them from a local shop.

    This is a really great video that helped me change the traction belt on my 17 year old 11528DLE Pro. The biggest differences between that unit and your video are the fact that it has two belts for the attachment drive and a newer (worse) clip mechanism to attach the wheels.
    Thank you so much for this useful video!

    You, Sir, are amazing! I followed your video step by step out in the garage ( at 5 below zero) my model is different than the one repaired but I was able toget the job done. Than you for your amazing (one handed) toterial!

      Very welcome! I may have recorded the video with one hand, but I couldn't have done it in -5° temps. Brrrrr! Glad the video was helpful!

    Thanks for the detailed video. I have the same exact snow blower and need to change both belts so this video was a huge help. By the way, great one handed job.

      Glad the video was helpful! One thing I didn’t mention in the video is that you may find helpful is that if you find the traction drive belt slips off or starts to break frequently, add a nylon locking nut to the stop bolt to push the pulley back a little. Over time the stop bolt can start to push into (or merge with) the pulley, which changes the pulley position slightly and causes excessive belt breakage. If you see the thread marks of the stop bolt on the pulley, that’s a good indication you should add a nylon locking nut. The other option is to replace the traction drive pulley, but a nylon washer is more economical. 😃

      Thanks for the update, I did not have this issue. Everything is back together and seems to be working fine. Hopefully we won't get another snowstorm until next winter.

    Thanks again,. I was able to get this done this afternoon and also changed the drive disc. My machine is a Compact 24 purchased in 2010 and was just a little different than video but the workings are similar. 👍👍

    @Bruce Alan,
    Your belt broke because the angle of drive pulley is to great !
    place a nylock nut on the back side of the friction disc stop bolt.
    That will act as a shim on the plate reducing the angle so belt wont slip off.

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  Год назад

      Yes, I actually did that last year although I placed two locking nuts on. Worked great! Thanks!

    You are a champ for doing this and with one hand no less. Question, last winter I was having drive issues in heavy snow. How do I know if it’s a belt replacement issue vs, I don’t know, a tension issue?

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  Год назад +1

      I had the same belt on for 5+ years without any issue, but then I started experiencing frequent broken belts and it kept falling off. Belts can stretch; however if you experience those symptoms, it’s tension in which case I added a nylon locking nut to the stop bolt to push the pulley back a little. Over time the stop bolt can start to push into (or merge with) the pulley, which changes the pulley position slightly and causes excessive belt breakage. If you see the stop bolt’s thread marks on the pulley, that’s a good indication you should add a nylon locking nut. The other option is to replace the traction drive pulley, but a nylon washer is more economical. 😃

    Why did you take the auger gear box assembly off? You said you were only changing the belts I don't get.

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  Год назад

      It’s just easier to change the belts that way. I literally followed the directions step by step in the paper manual from 2005.

      It’s actually not that bad to do. If I can do it with one hand, I bet you can do it with two (and if you only have one arm or hand, I sincerely apologize for sounding insensitive). 😕👍

    Why do people store their snow blowers outside and expect them to last?

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  Год назад +1

      Why do I store it outside? Simple, I don’t have a garage and the shed is too small. When we bought our home, my #1 criteria was a garage. My other half’s #1 was a working fireplace. Well? … she’s got a working fireplace, but my garage didn’t make the cut. 😂. So my snowblower lives in the shed during the winter and summers outdoors propped off the ground wrapped in many waterproof layers. It’s held up pretty well like that since 2005, but it would easily last 30 years if I’d gotten a garage. Maybe I can start storing that beast in the fireplace during the summer. 😝

    Next time you change your belts or friction disc, don't separate the two halves. So much easier and you only need your own two hands.

    one other thing how about 5/16 bolts NOT 9/16. I've never used 9/16 bolts even thought they do make them.

    • @BruceAlanR
      @BruceAlanR  Год назад +1

      In the video I noted the sockets that worked. I had the snow blower professionally repaired a long time ago and it’s possible the guy who repaired it changed out some of the bolts.

    It looks as though you could just remove the stol
    bolt and maybe not even the tensioner and slip that belt in without disassembling the whole thing

      Thanks for sharing your thoughts. The way I demonstrated in the video is based on the step by step instructions from the original owner’s manual, which I still have after all these years. Ha!
