This was not just a pivotal series in terms of passing of the torch/title of the best team in the world but is was also a great series in terms of excitement and quality of play
I wonder what Steve Smith's Average in Test cricket would he if he played in a stronger era of Test cricket. Not sure it would be 57. It might he low 50s which would he still good.
Why did Brendon Julian only play 7 test matches for Australia?? He was a good player, very underrated, and I think he should have played a lot more games for Australia.
he was a "genuine wicket taker", which is code for "wayward; all over the place, but will deliver the occasional jaffa". great for first class cricket, but generally won't have long test careers.
It is nearly 30 years ago this match was played and we all who were around are a generation older. I as a west Indian fan have moved on from west indies cricket. I will say to the people who are in charge of cricket in the Caribbean if the way cricketers are produced do not improve west indies cricket will never rise again.
WI made some horrible selections during this tour. Not saying australia didn't deserve to win, but the WI did themselves no favors at all. Stuart Williams was inexperienced and so was Sherwin Campbell. You needed an experienced player guiding the young men. Instead, you had the WICBC(Worst International Cricket Board in the Commonwealth) banishing Haynes for playing a season in free SA with KZN and not playing in our fast degrading FC tournament. Haynes by the way won a lawsuit against the WICBC for the incident. No Shiv Chanderpaul or Phil Simmons......and Keith Atherton in their place.....ridiculous.
@@andyclohessy5840 i think the question should be how long haynes would have carried on had he been rightfully made captain. I would estimate that he would have continued until 40 or 41.
I agree Chanderpaul should have been in there ahead of Arthurton. Simmons at that time wasn't doing well in test cricket and if you checked his test record after the WI tour of Australia in 1992-93 where he made a 100 in one of the tests he struggled badly in test cricket after that and was doing well in one dayers only. The board treated Haynes badly and he should have played that series in 1995 against the touring Aussies. I believe Sherwin Campbell should have been the one that played the entire test series in 1995 and not Stuart Williams, Williams was yet to make a test 50 after 7 tests and Campbell had 2 test 50s and a highes test score of 88 after two test in New Zealand prior to the Australian series. After both openers failed in the opening test in Barbados he was the one that got dropped
@juanestadian8471 what I am saying is that Simmons test record was poor in the last two years prior to that test series against Australia. In one dayers his form was consistent but not in the longer format. Leading up to that TEST series Arthurton would have had a better record in test than Simmons. The player who should have gotten the nod ahead of Arthurton in that 4 test series was Chanderpaul

@@andyclohessy5840 entirely possible. i never saw dujon played live, wasn't around. But just from the footage you could see he was spectacular. My problem with browne was he could not even be relied on to take easy chances. David Williams and junior murray weren't very good with the bat at all, but they could be relied on to take catches. As the batting got weaker, their places came under threat because they could not score runs and eventually ridley jacobs came along and he could score. After jacobs retired they returned to browne. And he still wasn't scoring runs and he was dropping important catches which tells me his game barely progressed in the nearly decade long absence from the side
