  • Video highlights of Australia's 1991 ODI tour of the West Indies hosted by Tony Greig with postcards from Richie Benaud. It would be the West Indies' first ever defeat in a limited overs series on home soil. From the video sleeve:
"When Alan Border's Australians walked away with the last World Cup they were considered by some to be 'lucky'.
The West Indies undefeated at home in One Day matches and considered by many as Cricket's One Day Champions were out to show the Aussies that their luck had run out.
But Captain Alan Border and Manager Bobby Simpson had other ideas as the tea jetted off to the Carribean for the 1991 Calypso tour of the West Indes.
Here for your enjoyment are the sensational highlights from all of the five one day matches,
You'll meet the players and feel the excitement that greeted them as they took the field in Jamaica, Trinidad, Barbados and Guyana. And along with the play you'll find all the statistics you want to know about bothh individual and team performances.
Border's Boys certainly put "the wind up the Windies" in the One Day Series and must go into the remainder of the Tests favourites... or will they find Viv Richards' West Indians an unstoppable hurricane!"

This one day and test series is the greatest. An era of great cricket, legends on both teams. Great crowds, great commentators, no small grounds, bats not over big. I was 17 during this series. So great.

At the 1.51 mark, Dean Jones wrote in a book a year or so after this called 'One Day Magic' that when a close lbw shout happened, in order to give the umpire less time to look, he would feign an attempt to run a leg-bye. He talked about this specific incident how he had done the pretend to think about a leg bye thing and then 'clunk'! The bowler Tony Grey had thrown down my stumps. Jones, sadly, died today, I heard the news on a fb cricket group less than an hour ago.

Last week I watched Australia win 2023 World Cup in
India where Modi ( Indian prime minister) thrust the cup at Cummins & stormed off ! I later found out the ICC is dominant with Indians that 4 out of ten dollars earned goes to India! West Indie’s weren’t in
The cup because there got no money! I expect more of this India I was happy for there rise with IPL but I fear for others ! the ICC need to help lesser teams not line the pocket of Indian Bussiness men !

Yeah coloured clothing didn't catch on until day/night cricket started to spread outside Australia

    • @Bernie8330
      @Bernie8330 4 года назад +2

@@IanGorton New Zealand and South Africa were the only other countries to go coloured with one day clothing at the same time as Australia right after world series cricket in the late 1970, although bear in mind South Africa remained in cricketing isolation until 1991.
The first four world cups, in England 1975,79 and 83 and then jointly hosted by India and Pakistan in 1987, were in white clothing with red balls and throughout the 1980s, all one day matches on the sub-continent were in whites. The 1992 world cup jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand was the first world cup played in coloured clothes with white balls.
India and Sri Lanka started using coloured clothes and white balls when hosting one day internationals in the early to mid-1990s, and Pakistan didn’t do so until the 1996 world cup jointly hosted by all three countries. However, Pakistan continued to stick with white clothes and red balls in one day internationals they hosted for the rest of the 20th century.
There was a triangular one day series in India also involving Sri Lanka and Pakistan in early to mid 1997 where coloured clothes and white balls were used. However, less than a year later, in early 1998, a triangular series in India also involving Australia and Zimbabwe saw players wearing whites and using red balls. Immediately after, there was a triangular series in Sharjah UAE involving Australia, India and New Zealand where coloured clothes and white balls were used. This was one of the earliest tournaments in UAE where coloured clothes and white balls were used, and they had been hosting one day series as a neutral venue since about 1985.
The champions trophy in Bangladesh around August/September 1998 saw coloured clothes and white ball being used while a month or two later, the one day series in Pakistan versus Australia that followed the test series saw white clothes and red balls used.
One day series in England used white clothes and red balls right up until, but not including the 1999 world cup, which saw coloured clothes and white balls used in England for the first time. Thereafter, coloured clothes and white balls has been standard and uniformly used in all countries ever since. The first time coloured clothes and white balls were used in the West Indies was a few months before the aforementioned 1999 world cup against the touring Australians immediately after the test series.
Also note, during the 1980s, in Pakistan, one day internationals tended to be 40 overs rather than 50, while the aforementioned first three world cups in England of 1975,79 and 83 were 60 overs, while all other one day internationals against touring teams in England were 55 overs. Pakistan had switched to 50 overs by the early 1990s, whereas England did not do so until that 1999 world cup.
