What is so great and probably unique about the 1992 world cup was the fact that almost all the teams had their best ever cricketers in one team.

Great yes but there's nothing unique, people say that about literally every world cup and era of cricket. From the 70s to the 2010s. I'm sure people would be saying the same about Sobers and Bradman and Grace if those generations were alive or on RUclips. Go a few years down the line from 92 and you'll find the peak 90s kids nostalgia about the late 90s till 03 wc. After a few years from now people will look back at 23 and say wow such great players, because many will be retiring after this or maximum 27. Another era is closing hence more nostalgia for another generation.

Yeah India had legends like Tendulkar and Kapil Dev. I wish we could’ve qualified for the semi-finals. Even though it was a little disappointing for India, we managed to beat Pakistan by 43 runs in a game during the knockout stages. That was nice.

Javed Miandad and imran Khan. Two gems of Pakistan who transformed a humble test nation of 70s into a cricket superpower in the 80s and 90s, drawing the test series againt mighty West Indies and winning WC 92. They Revolutionized the game with their fighting ability between 1982 and 1992. Both were not 100% fit, Imran ate painkillers for his injured shoulder, Javed was ill but they toiled hard for their country. Cricket holds a debt to this Pakistan XI that took the game to newer territory like Afghanistan, UAE and Bangladesh

In late 90s they had more talented bunch of players than Australians which is a fact but infamous scandals made sure that they can never dominate the sports. After the demise of Great West Indian team of 70s and 80s, Pakistan should have rise but they never got a decent leader and Australians dominated the sport for next 7 odd year although i still think they were never as good as Windies of 80s.

Every cricket fan who really wants to know important truthful details of Indian team performance in earlier events must read this ☺️
✌️☺️Till millennial era events Indian team performance in a nutshell☺️

Your polite appreciation for this refined truthful analysis of several hours efforts & corrective replies & additional details are truly welcome (although I won't reply to any of the replies, and provocative least knowledge toddlers will be deservingly ignored as usual) ☺️
      H : HEROES (better performers)
      V : VILLAINS (worse performers)
(I've written the HERO & VILLAIN performers from best to worst order)
      1975 & 1979 :
[ IN BOTH WC IT'S BATTING FAILURE ]
      CAPTAIN :
      S VENKATARAGHAVAN
      1975 :
      OUT, 3RD IN GROUP A
      H : SYED-ABID-ALI (allrounder)
      V : GAVASKAR
      1979 :
      OUT, 4TH IN GROUP B
H : VISHWANATH GAVASKAR KAPIL (allround okay contribution) & BRIJESH (although small contribution)
      (All have performed fairly average)
V : Whole batting lineup (and even worst bowling), especially GAEKWAD VENGSARKAR AMARNATH with bat vs strong teams WI NZ
      1983 & 1987 :
[ KEY VETERAN PERFORMERS EITHER INCONSISTENT OR MISSED CRUCIAL KNOCKOUTS, AS IN 1987 ]
      CAPTAIN :
      KAPIL DEV
      1983 :
      WINNERS
H : BINNY SANDEEP AMARNATH MADANLAL YASHPAL KAPIL SRIKKANTH
      (BINNY is solid overall throughout)
      V : GAVASKAR
(Single digit streak except 2 odd innings in WC1979)
      1987 :
      LOST SEMIS TO ENGLAND
      (1st 50 over World Cup)
H : SIDHU AZHAR MANINDER SHASTRI GAVASKAR (except his AUS ENG failures) KAPIL
(SIDHU AZHAR SHASTRI MANINDER are exceptional, with batting consistency crucial contribution or crucial batter wkts)
      V : VENGSARKAR GAVASKAR
(Both are batting legends, but they've performed only vs AUS or else weak NZ ZIM of this WC unlike relatively stronger NZ ZIM of 1975 till 1983, VENGSARKAR didn't play SEMIS vs ENG which is real big dent to added batting strength, KAPIL is also inconsistent with bat)
      1992 TILL 1999 :
[ OVERALL BATTING BOWLING FAILURE, TOO MUCH CHOPPING AND CHANGING & NOT BACKING PROVEN PERFORMERS, LIKE WC1987 MATCHWINNER SIDHU EXCLUDED IN WC1992 ]
      CAPTAIN :
      MOHD. AZHARUDDIN
      1992 :
DISQUALIFIED IN TOP4 IN ROUND-ROBIN WORLD CUP
H : AZHAR KAPIL SACHIN MANJREKAR PRABHAKAR (bit with ball)/JADEJA
V : No consistency except AZHAR KAPIL & somewhat SACHIN/JADEJA/MANJREKAR, and mostly it's batting failure (than bowling vs last SA match), SIDHU exclusion from WC1992 is totally baseless (knowledgeable ones tell me about this)
      1996 :
LOST SEMIS TO SRILANKA BY RIOTING CROWD
(Note that SL had got 2 matches walkover in group stage from AUS & WI due to bombing & safety concerns caused by LTTE in SL)
H : SACHIN SIDHU KUMBLE RAJU JADEJA PRASAD & lastly SRINATH (in SEMIS and few other matches, also inconsistent at times)
V : AZHAR JADEJA PRABHAKAR KAMBLI (very very inconsistent with bat or ball, and consistent shuffling of batting order by captain with unsettled openers despite matchwinner SIDHU availability)
      1998 :
      LOST SEMIS TO WINDIES
H : SACHIN GANGULY JADEJA ROBIN JOSHI DRAVID
V : Worst bowling unable to pick wickets or contain runs, especially KUMBLE SRINATH vs strong WI in SEMIS
      1999 :
      OUT, LAST IN SUPER SIX
H : DRAVID GANGULY SACHIN ROBIN JADEJA RAMESH (good contributions with bat often at times) & SRINATH KUMBLE PRASAD MOHANTY (either wicket takers or have contained runs somewhat often)
V : Extremely inconsistent batting except DRAVID GANGULY SACHIN, JADEJA peeks in super six stage and ROBIN is solid, but often the top trio fails in some crucial matches, AZHAR MONGIA and bowlers except PRASAD MOHANTY SRINATH ROBIN & little of KUMBLE are alternately damn inconsistent and have leaked runs in few matches which led to WC exit with last position in super six, and even GANGULY was very iffy in super six.

Amazing that Javed Miandad was ill during every match and unbelievably scored heavily in virtually every match.... in fact it might have been every single match.
Graham Gooch said it best many years later that Steve Waugh and Javed Miandad were nightmare batsmen to bowl to because they would grind the bowlers into the dirt and show no mercy.

True say bro I agree with you 100%. Shocks of the 1992 Cricket World Cup:
      New Zealand beat Australia
      Sri Lankan beat South Africa
      England beat West Indies
      Zimbabwe beat England
      Pakistan beat New Zealand (Twice).
The saddest part of the tournament was the following matches were not televised and we cannot find full HD highlights of:
India v Sri Lanka (Rain stopped play)
      South Africa v Zimbabwe
      Zimbabwe v New Zealand
      West Indies v India
      Zimbabwe v Sri Lanka
      Pakistan v Zimbabwe
      Pakistan v Sri Lanka
      Sri Lanka v England
      England v Zimbabwe etc
Three disappointing factors of the 1992 CWC:
      (1) Not all matches were televised by Channel 9 that was a shame which means we will never get to see all the highlights
      (2) There were no reserve days for rained off matches
      (3) There was no Richard Hadlee, Vivian Richards, Jefferey Dujon, Gordon Greenidge, Carlile Best, Cheetan Sharma, Jeff Crowe, Waqar Younis, Saeed Anwar, Aamir Malik, Abdul Qadir, Graham Dilley, Neil Foster, Chris Broad, David Gower, Mike Gatting, Courtney Walsh, Carl Rackeman, Greg Campbell, Terry Alderman, Simon O Donnoll, Geoff Lawson, Ezra Mosley, Devon Malcolm, David Lawrence, John Emburey, Phil Edmonds and many others in this World Cup.
      (4) Colour clothing was really nice, but I wish the shirts were extra short sleeved.
      (5) The best World Cup not because Pakistan won it although that was, an icing on the cake.
      (6) Lawry, Benaud, Tony, Gatting, Gower, New Zealand commentators, The chapell brothers did a fantastic job in the commentary box.

This was a common concern for fast bowlers of the day. McGrath said something similar even though he was not a swing bowler and SA used to bring Donald on as first change precisely because he found it hard to control the white new ball. I wonder if the manufacturer or specs of the ball have changed between '92 and today.

In the whole history of the world cricket,92 world cup was the most beautiful world cup.It had something special about it.Beautiful colourful jersey, the most beautiful jersey in cricket.Day night games. In those days light was so beautiful. And more importantly it was the last world cup of maximum legend players of 70s and 80s.All grounds were so beautiful and full of greenery.Kapil dev was at the last stage of his career. It was quite interesting to see kapil dev playing under the captaincy of mohhamad azharuddin. It was the first world cup for the master.Azhuruddin was at the peak of his career.Azhuruddin played many great knocks in this world cup.Unfortunately Indian team could make not into the semi-final.India lost few very close games against Australia and England. All teams were having legend players.

It was Pakistan's (and Imran's) destiny to win this tournament, just as it was (cruelly) not New Zealand's destiny in 1992. Pakistan timed their run perfectly, winning the matches that mattered, including have luck on their side, not only with the 1 point from the washout against England, but having other results go their way. With mercurial players and an inspirational captain in his last hurrah, Pakistan's triumph was a triumph for the underdog. This WC will long live in the memory for its innovations (both on and off the field), and the coming of age of the 50 over game from here on in. England would eventually triumph (contentiously) in 2019 and NZ would (again) be gallant in defeat. Let's hope 2023 brings as much excitement!

Yes.. I was 14 years old, my father would wake me and my brother up with the black tea and we 3 sit together and watch it. The color dress, the lush green outfield with perfect rectangle pitch in centre, the white ball, the stump vision, the sound of ball hitting the bat.. the top view where we can see batter clearly, instead of a view where empires head is touching the batters view. Cut out pictures from SPORTSAR Magazine and stick in the wall where we sit and study. Brought a big poster with all captains sitting and standing together and stick it on the guestroom wall... We even brought a yellow and blue T-shirt and painted the colourful stripes in shoulder.. because the dress was not available in shop. What a memory man.. !! Still fresh in mind.

Great documentary on the most defining moment in ODI history with white balls, colour kits, black sightscreens and D/N matches.
But just a small correction. As mentioned in 16.06 India didn't beat Sri Lanka. The match lasted only two balls. The bowler was Champaka Ramanyaka and India scored one run. Despite all the efforts to get the game on at Mackay Oval, the game was abandoned due to bad weather. Never again did they(Australia) play any international cricket at Mackay Oval. So slightly inacurate information but apart from that great stuff.
