Inzi announces himself to the world. Chasing 100 off the last 12 in pre-T20 days was such a miracle. Only Pakistan could pull such a feat back then. What an amazing and complete side. The master of swing Wasim Akram and Aqqib with the ball. Then the leg spin of Mushtaq. Useful bowler in Aamir Sohail. Batting had the stroke maker Sohail, the long innings player Ramiz. Imran, Akram who could take any attack to the cleaners on their day. The calm and composed Javed whose sheer presence was a terror to the opposition. Then the magician Inzi and the finisher Moin Khan. Most deserved winners of the 1992 WC
I was just 7 years old and matches used to start at 3am and as expected i slept through the whole match. I vividly remember my mother woke me up and said ‘asad dekho pakistan jeet raha hai’ and just then moin khan hits the winning 4. Off course pakistan later on won many memorable matches and i saw them live but those childhood memories just never vanishes. Long live this beautiful game of cricket.
31 years later and this game still evokes many memories for cricket fans old enough to remember where they were on that fateful day on 21 March 1992. NZ's audacious tournament came to an end, and credit to Pakistan for winning the clutch moments under pressure. First Inzamam, then Moin, with veterans Imran and Javed guiding the chase along the way. In his post-match assessment injured captain Martin Crowe said his absence cost his side victory. Harsh, but understandable sentiment: Crowe was the architect behind NZ's campaign; delivering not only with the bat, but as the strategist in the field. In 1992, only two teams won chasing a target in excess of 250: Sri Lanka in their opening game v Zim, and Pak in the S/F. NZ would also have batted second but the weather forecast was for rain in the afternoon and the rain rule as it then was favoured the side batting first. The rain did come - well after the match ended! NZ got redemption of sorts in the WC2015 S/F when Elliott deposited Steyn for six to carry NZ to their maiden WC final. But 21/03/1992 will always remain as the day the NZ dream died...and evokes 'what might have been'.
Absolutely nz was really unlucky. I guess with such total their wayward bowling or casual approach allowing easy single and singles to double later cost them the game as Pakistan glkwpt oj getting momentum maybe they knew their chance was veye less compared to nz. So you see the asking rate at the critical point when inzimam came was too high 8 per over but they gave easy boundaries to him by some really mediocre bowling specially by Morrison plus Chris Harris which was very suitable when a batsman wanted to adore quick runs. Had nz won this semi final the final as well wouldn't be thag difficult against England. Btw, what happened to Martin crowe in thta match while he batter really well.
New Zealand 🇳🇿 was supreme . But I was always confident that we will defeat them . Great childhood days . Love ❤that New Zealand side too . Mark Greatbatch , Martin Crowe were terrific players . And the spinner Dipak Patel bowling in the 1st 10 overs was a masterstroke . Really sad about the demise of Martin Crowe . For me South Africa 🇿🇦 and New Zealand 🇳🇿 were great sides .Cricket was far more exciting than T20 cricket crap in these days .
Kiwis were overconfident after scoring 260+ in Auckland. Things were in their favor till Inzimam played 60 of 39 odd balls. In those people used to play decent one day cricket... so that innings made a difference for New Zealand in terms of runs and balls taken. They didn't have plan to get Inzimam out (obviously run out was easiest) and it paid the price in the end.
@@scottjohnston6841 well as per reports new Zealand had intentionally lost the group match with Pakistan so that they can play the semi finals in new Zealand.. otherwise new Zealand had to play semi finals in Australia which they wanted to avoid it
@@prosenjitbanerjee7490 Newzealand after losing the round robin match to Pakistan still tops the Group.. if they had won it they were still playing at Eden park.. yes they might have lost it intentionally to avoid playing AGAINST West Indies but not sure..
That was a really good Pakistan side. Many great players in that team. They had a slow start to the World cup but they fired when it mattered. New Zealand would have never underestimated them at all as they were an average side "apart from Martin Crowe who was World class" but they had a good run in home conditions. Pakistan deserved their World cup title whatever you may believe and I am a New Zealander. So stop talking dribble and going on about overconfidence.
Not over confidence.. infact Martin Crowe was sure that Pakistan would hardly reach 230.. so he didn't came to field. Just because he wanted to be fully fit for the Final. And the most extraordinary thing that happened that day was the weather forecast report which was given to Martin Crowe that there will be thunderstorms and heavy rainfall during the chase. But boy Martin Crowe wrote.. i was hoping and miserably thinking where is storm.
The most lovely world cup match I have ever seen. At that time, I was just 5 years of age. Didnt remember anything. But after watching now, I can analyse the winning of Pakistan due to 3 factors: 1. Over confidence of New Zealand 2. Brilliant, stormy and wonderful batting of Inzamam 3. The most technical, experienced and responsible batting of Miandad
The rule of the game in those days was that benefit of the doubt will go to the batsman. It's easy to pick in the replay but not through the naked eye.
Miandad is cricket intelligent. He quickly realized the boundaries are comparatively easy to reach as ground is small. Inzimam can those boundaries so he advises Inzi to play his shots as much as possible and not taking singles or doubles. By that it was easier to send Inzi back to pavilion. All Kiwis had to do is to stop flow of boundaries and then Inzi was bound to make mistake but it didn't happen because they didn't create enough pressure on these batters.
Once a skipper, always a skipper... lots of love for Imran Khan and WC 1992 team Pakistan, those were unforgettable moments of our life when you guys won the WC
Rizwan Akram, any chance you've got to upload Sri Lanka vs West Indies 1992 wc match in which West Indian batsman Phil Simmons scored 110 runs off 125 balls, please let me know.
New zealand did not play serious this match coz of 262 runs; they are serious after pakistan has reached 240. but pakistan played well and serious this match

The moment still makes you emotional on that win, after such a long time, what a moment when a mis hit from Moeen went for a six , great memories.😆👍
not a mishit, sliced - just a ball before he had taken a good measure too
