Whoa. This was an extr a special story. Fwiw, I began to think about Lou Gehrig as soon as you described Mike. (Love when things like that happen.)
When I was 7, I read a book about Gehrig and was so impressed with the 'Iron Horse' that I decided to be a NY Yankee when I grew up.
Though my Mom was kind enough to be enthusiastic about my dream, bless her, it wasn't long before one of my friend's dads heard about it, laughing as he explained, 'They ain't lettin' a girl play no baseball!'
Instead, I played all-star softball for several years - and loved every second. Now Lou AND Iron Mike will be in my heart forever.

Fr. Nathan, my mom passed this May. I am grateful for your podcast. The work of the soul is focused on so many aspects of life other than what we worry about day to day. The surrendure novena has been such a gift. I am challenged to enter into conversations tomorrow where I really need and want to say, "Lord Jesus, I surrendure to you.
