Hey all! No need to continue to correct me regarding Marc’s original material. I am not an expert on Marc’s work so please disregard any comments I’ve made that are misleading or incorrect regarding this subject. Thank you!
You’re good man. I’m having you go on this journey for a reason, and learning along the way makes it even more special. Thanks for the vids as always 👍
Marc & his band dOWNHERE received some important awards (Juno & Covenant) before Marc became aware of Freddie’s existence. Marc & his bandmate Jason Germain wrote 99% of the material. To date, Martel has written 100+ amazing songs. So, pretty sure, he has a solid grip on who he is as a songwriter. He is also a fantastic lyricist. His poetry is very thoughtful and uniquely intuitive. I adore his sensibility in music and in verse. Thank you, Jeff, for helping people discover Marc’s work!
Before the Queen stuff took off, Marc was in his own band called Downhere for about 10+ years in the early 2000’s. So he’s been doing original material for a good decade or so. Recently however, he hasn’t had much time to do original music with Queen shows in high demand plus his other projects/covers.
I still think Marc can combine doing tribute shows and working on his solo music, just a matter of booking bigger shows and reserving time for songwriting. Better management backing him wouldn't hurt too.
@@QueenCelebrationLive And keep in mind the Christmas stuff he has done yearly since his first Christmas EP. He usually records the new tracks throughout the year or during the summer time.
Oh, another great video reaction! I missed it until today when I dragged myself out of the writing cave and discovered this gem. What a treat! I love these original Marc Martel songs. And this one hits anyone who's been in a relationship just where it needs to. Thank you!
Glad you liked Stalemate! Many longtime fans hope for more originals, as we also think him well capable. Huge deal, going solo, no matter how capable. Spot on, Jeff.
Marc wrote and performed his ORIGINALS for 12 years (he and his band Downhere toured from 1999-2012), and even then, people constantly compared him to Freddie, so this is not a new thing for him.
I love your reactions, but your details are a bit backwards here. Marc was a successful songwriter with his Christian band Downhere WAY before being chosen to lead Queen Extravaganza in 2012, winning 4 Juno Awards (Canadian Grammys) ALL for Album of the Year (so 4 different albums) during the 2000s, most of which he wrote. He also wrote what many still consider to be the best contemporary Christmas song in How Many Kings, which is sung so often by church choirs alongside classic Christmas hymns that many do not realize just how recently it was written.
This one is so moving! 😭 It gets me thinking about my own relationships every time, no matter if I want to or not. 😂 It's kinda heavy, not a happy feel good song by any means, so it's not one I listen to as much as some of his other tracks on this album.
Marc Martel is touring in europe next year singing Queen covers. He also performes in Eckerö Line ship cruising between Tallin and Helsinki. He is great singer but I prefer original music from original artists. I do not value much cover music unless it is tribute covers.
@@artfulstories Same Marc whose voice was used in Freddie Mercury film. Queen Show in Eckerö Line. I could not find the date so perhaps this show has already done.
@@riittasihvonen2011 pretty sure he would have made a post about it on his socials. He's never had this on his schedule, and he even lists private gigs. Where did you hear about this?
@@artfulstories It was on that ship companys page. The ad said MARC MARTEL - QUEEN SHOW - ECKERÖ LINE. It was quite confusing as that makes one think it is held on the ship. Most likely it was the show you meant and that ad was only to promote the Eckerö Line to sail to Tallin to see the show. So this is in past tence. Good for you to make me check. Thanks.

Original or cover, Marc proves that he is simply a great singer. Nice.

This is beautiful!!! Love him!!!! He does not disappoint!!! I really do enjoy his originals❤️Thanks, Jeff!!🤗
Among his original songs this is my favorite. 🏆
The video is also very nice.

I would love to hear this in a country version...
Right up the 'did me wrong' alley... Great song
and great reaction... ;)

The advantage of not understanding English.
I can listen to sad songs even when I'm already sad without making it worse. 😎

You must be mixed up with a different tribute band. Marc performed in the city of Tallinn recently, but not on a cruise.
