I just had this happen on March 8th 2023 and I tell you it's no fun having them but I can tell you it was worth it anyway and that's why I have to stint in there to make sure the urine will come out safely and I won't have to worry about a thing but the only thing I have to do now is to get the stent out! And what was nice about it is I stayed there for at least three and a half hours after recovering from it. And boy was it worth it.
Super helpful, simple explanation. Thank you! This was a lot better of an explanation than my doctor gave to me. I just had this procedure done this week.

I’m right in the middle of all this kidney stone crap. I had the surgery two days ago and it’s been quite painful and unpleasant since then. It burns like hell when I have to take a piss which is a dozen or more times a day. I have this thread hanging out of my wiener and that stent is connected to that string so I can pull it out in a couple more days. I will be pulling it out myself and I can only imagine what joy and wonders that will bring me. This sucks!
I just had this done yesterday (3/6/23) my 1st operation to place the original stent was Valentines day. I had a 25mm stone. Ive then came back each week for a few weeks to get it blasted. Yesterday i had the whole camera and basket fun!! Im hurting like crazy today. But they said they got em all, and I have a scheduled surgery the 13th to do the final stent removal. This honestly has been absolutely horrible. Not anything against the urologist, just the process... but i can finally see the finish line and I've never been so excited for this to be over!!! Thank you to the Advance Urology Snellville Ga. Ill be so happy to never do this agian!
I had the exact same procedure that was explained here. 3 days in the hospital. The doctor got my kidney stone out and 4 of the 6 bladder stones out. I have a stent. It's been in place for about 9 days now. VERY painful peeing. My right side hurts a lot when moving around. Still some blood in my urine. I feel very weak and tired. Just walking across the room drains me. I felt great before the surgery. No kidney or bladder pain but I sure do now. A very terrible experience. I'm wondering when my stent will come out. I hope the doc will let me know. Also, she wants to go back in and get the other two stones. Why didn't she take them out the first time? Never got to ask her ...yet. Now how do I stop making more stones I don't have to go through this again? Why did I do this I'm asking myself.
Having stones, surgery, then stents can leave you tired and at risk for another infection. I’ve had this done twice. Stones are loaded with bacteria and while the stents keep urine flowing, they can harbor bacteria too. I had to be on antibiotics throughout my treatment. Also got another uti after they removed the stents as that jostled more hospital-acquired bacteria. Stay vigilant as you recover. Rest and drink plenty of fluids. Avoid salt and sugar if you can. Call your doctor if you feel worse or develop a fever. Hope you’re all better now! 🙏🏻🕊
Going through a similar situation. But kind of the opposite. Have a stone in my kidney, good sized stone. Been having cramping, back ache, dull but strong abdominal pain on left, abnormal urinalysis (infection). Urologist put in a stent to relieve pressure and to make sure the kidney drains properly, as I have had sepsis before, due to a stone obstruction. Next step will be stone removal, but 5-6 weeks down the road when things calm down, as this doctor above out it. So, I think the urologist looks at the big picture, the history, tests, stone size etc. and then individualize a plan sometimes. I was in pain before the stent, so honestly, it's all the same, just some new sensations. I understand your pain and concerns and hope this all ends soon. Am devastated that this is happening again! Wishing you all the best and may we both heal soon❤
Thank you for your wonderful reply. I finally have all my stones removed (kidney and bladder) but now I can't pee right. My urine comes out sideways all over my feet and legs in a big spray. Had to have another operation to correct that called a "meatotomy: but it didn't work. Have to pee in a funnel or jug. Now she thinks my enlarged prostate is the problem and it has to come out in January. This won't end for me. I should have had lithotripsy instead of the surgery to remove the stones. I made a mistake and now I'm paying for it.@@shazzasees

I didn’t get a stent for mine. I have peed 4 times so far tonight and every time has been very very bloody with a clot that shoots out to begin with. I called and the on call doc says to just keep drinking water and it should get better. Im kind of scared honestly
Just had this done with a laser and just pulled my stent out with the string and got a say from start to finish. It wasn’t too bad at all. Didn’t even need many painkillers at all. Modern medicine is great.
Can they do both kidneys on the 1st procedure?? Super helpful this was. I was pushing for a ureteroscopy because I have stones in the bladder causing irritation for months & this video puts me at ease
Actually, I feel more anxiety after watching this video and reading the comments 😳when he said, "Maybe we have to go a second time!"😮 My stone is 7mm outside the kidney already. I have passed many stones, but doctor says this one is too big😖
My poor husband has to have this done next week. He had a CT scan that showed a 6mm stone. I'm worried and scared for him. I don't want him to be in pain.

I have a kidney stone. I may have to get a ureteroscopy if my stone does not pass at the end of this month. What pain med is given after the procedure. I cannot take morphine because I have a dangerous “reaction” to it and cannot take it. If morphine is given, do urologists prescribe something else if the patient cannot take morphine?
Excellent explanation l had to attend ER last week as l have an 18mm kidney stone. A stent was placed and sent home, waiting to be called to get kidney stone lassered as it won't pass, so does that mean a new stent will be placed when l go back to hospital?
I had this done today. I was very nervous before they knocked me out, when I woke up I didn't realize that they already finished the procedure. I will say peeing is quite painful, a very strong burning sensation but once the pee starts, the pain subsidies a bit. This is where the meds come in ;) But for me, I will try to limit the use of pain meds if I can, except maybe the one that reduces inflation.
Brilliant video, explained well and had brought me comfort as i was worried about the blood in my urine every time i go to the toilet with my stent in place. I am showing leukocytes so have been given an oral anti- biotic to take for a week. I hope i never get stones again. I was on a keto diet a few months ago and wonder if that could have contibuted to these stones. Also if i take apple cider vinegar daily from now on could that help prevent them?
Thanks a lot, doctor. So it is normal to see some blood in the urine as long the stent is three? I think, removing the stone is a bit painful. My doctor said he will use local anesthesia while removing the stent.
Michael that size will not pass on its own so maybe if you are the thin guy they can do lithotripsy which is a sound wave bombardment of the stone to break it up then they get it or some of the pieces will pass on their own. If no litho then they do a uretereoscopy where they go thru your penis into the bladder and to the kidney to break the stone with a laser! They will probably leave a stent to keep your urethra open and the kidney draining. The stent will be an experience! Still there is no cutting so minimally invasive quick recovery!
Kind of the same. Explanation above. Stent first and then surgery coming. Stone is high in the kidney, but still causing infection, so stent needed to ensure no upcoming blockage. Scary! Feel better soon!❤
Last June 2020, I had an ureteroscopy to remove a 3 mm stone at the entrance to my bladder. I wish my urologist had explained it as well as this clip. He didn't follow up with post op to say if a stent was put in me. Four (4) months, I started experiencing the same kidney stone like pain, went to a different urologist at a major university medical center. CT scan found the kidney is healthy, but the pain keep escalating. In two weeks, I will go back to get an ultra sound and CT scans again to see what is causing the pain. Didn’t sleep good last night because of uncomfortable bladder pressure. Not fun but it is tolerable. They got all of the stone and am now counting the days until they remove this stent.
Hi I had this done on Friday. They didn't leave a stent in for me. Everything seems to be doing fiine regarding urinating etc without the stent. But want to know how long it will take until I start to feel normal again. Keep getting so many feelings of movement in my lower abdomen like pregnancy but I'm not pregnant.... get light throbbing feelings in kidney. No blood is passing etc. Feel like i have brain fog / drowsy and weird still 🙄🙄🙄 how long does recovery take
Incase it would help anybody. I began feeling better after about 6 weeks....I never used to get kidney pain or discomfort despite having a 7mm stone. However now I find I get a bit more discomfort but nothing serious or too bad. I just realise if I strain too much itl bring it on. So I'm still being gentle.
I had this procedure done on Thursday (24/June/2021). The Kidney stone was 6mm. I am now recovering at home. i have been vomiting and i can't sleep. Is there anyway that I can reduce the pain at night?
I was recently slammed (out of nowhere) by 4-5mm kidney stones. Two were lodged in the left ureter which sent me to ER. The pain is indescribable and relentless. A stent was immediately placed to clear the blockage and surgery was scheduled 10 days later so the infection had a chance to clear. THE STENT PAIN IS HORRIBLE AND YOU WILL BE MISERABLE. After surgery to remove the stones, the stent was replaced as a precaution of ureter swelling and another 8 days of stent agony ensued. I’ve been completely panicked for the last week reading comment after comment about the barberic procedure and pain involved to remove the stent. Happy to say I experienced ZERO pain and nothing was given for numbing during the procedure. It was a little uncomfortable due to pressure but even that was over in less than a minute. All of this to say everyone is different so someone else’s experience won’t be your experience. My suggestion, take something for pain prior to the procedure “just in case” and relax. The relief is immediate and I’m so glad it’s over. Good luck to everyone.
Stents are not mandatory for a uncomplicated procedure..in fact studies show that there's a high rate of return visits to the ER when a stent is placed.. multiple studies in the journal of medicine along with a few other medical journals.. stenting is not necessary or even recommend, as the stents themselves can cause sever complications.. obviously there's people who pressnt infections or complications that do need a stent..but by no means should a doctor just assume all patients need one..
I have done my kidney stone surgery about a week ago and a stent was placed. I have a question. Can I smoke weed after having the stent in me? And does smoking weed or drinking alcohol have any significant effect?
I'm guessing that you don't need a Stent when you don't have hydronephrosis. I think if you have that, the Stent will drain the fluid in the kidney. Mine does not have the hydronephrosis.
My heart just keeps thanking you and thanking you Dr Osoria for all you have done for me, you gave me your words that you could heal any sickness of PCOS, thank you for permanently curing. you are amazing doc #drosoria

I have passed several stones in my life. I went to emergency room this time and then they scheduled me to have this done for two stones in the operating room in the hospital They could remove one of the smaller stone but one is too large. They put a stent in and in a week to ten days they said the stent would come out. I cannot believe i will have to go through another procedure for the larger stone with another stent. I have heard removing the stent is agonizing but nobody talks about it. i guess i will finc out
In my case they waited 6 weeks before the 2nd ureteroscopy. It worked; they could remove the stone. But now I have to wait another 3 weeks before they'll remove the stent. Isn't that all a bit long? (The stent is quite uncomfortable and painfull)
I'm getting mine April 29th this year at Mary Immaculate here in Newport News Virginia a Ureteroscopy with the Holmium Laser under the care of Dr Ani with TPMG. After watching these videos and reading everyone's description of pain, etc makes me wonder if the way the patient is being treated during the procedure is causing the pain post surgery later. I have a Tic Tok video and talk about this exactly. When watching this video, observe how the doctor rushes while shoving the guide wire, etc quickly down the urethra very quickly. I have watched other videos with doctors from India saying to carefully and slowly push the guide wire down the urethra not to damage the urethra lining. You think these doctors that are pushing pretty quickly these quide wires down the urethra would want another doctor to do the same to them, heck no !! I'm not a betting man but after hearing why so many patients are having pain, etc, I'm betting this could be one reason. There doctor is rushing this procedure perhaps to get to another surgery hours later, or insurance time allocated reasons, or this is how he or she was trained. I'm not sure what the reason is but to reduce costs the more time you allocate for the patient that day for surgery reduces future costs on insurance companies if it's done in a way where the doctor doesn't appear to be rushed possibly causing damage to someone's urethra or something similar in nature. In other other words, they say the surgery can be on average from RUclips research from 45 min to 3 hours at most. Would you want a 45 min procedure after seeing how fast this doctor rushes the guide wire down your urethra possibly causing you major discomfort and pain later. Or, would you want a 2 hour surgery where the surgeon carefully and slowly guides the guide wire down your urethra in which your discomfort and pain is much, much less during recovery after surgery. It's food for thought !! All I know is on April 29th I want Dr Ani to do door number 2 on me so that is exactly what my pain and discomfort is !! You are paying the bill at the end and should get what you pay for, eehh?? Just like anything else in life, right, when it comes to the bill ? The customer is always right, right ? Please don't comment, " Well, I don't want my doctor on his feet for so many hours taking that amount of time causing him to be tired, etc ! If your doctor can't stay on his feet for a certain amount of hours for surgery, he shouldn't be doing this in the 1st place. He needs to clock out and go home and look for another profession. ER doctors do this everyday and know that is what comes with the job. That's why ER doctors, your Urologist, make very good money because of the stress of the job and the hours of work that goes into, including the hours of surgery. I'm blessed to have very good doctors with TPMG thus far!. My GP and Urologist have been excellent so far and I hope they keep staying this way. I hope my long review helped and informed those of my opinion and I hope my procedure is nowhere close to what I've been reading come April 29th,2022 at Mary Immaculate in Newport News, Virginia. Have a great day everyone and hope all of you going through this has or is recovering well !!

Hi how are you doing now? Hope you didn't bleeds for long after the stone was removed?
I hope you can sleep better now?
My wife has a stent and having it and the 10mm removed next week 4/28
Stents are not mandatory for a uncomplicated procedure..in fact studies show that there's a high rate of return visits to the ER when a stent is placed.. multiple studies in the journal of medicine along with a few other medical journals.. stenting is not necessary or even recommend, as the stents themselves can cause sever complications.. obviously there's people who pressnt infections or complications that do need a stent..but by no means should a doctor just assume all patients need one..
Do they knock you out when all this is going on.
I have done my kidney stone surgery about a week ago and a stent was placed. I have a question. Can I smoke weed after having the stent in me?
And does smoking weed or drinking alcohol have any significant effect?
Good joke.
Excellent video that explained it perfectly
Can this procedure be done without leaving a Stent afterwards?
I'm guessing that you don't need a Stent when you don't have hydronephrosis. I think if you have that, the Stent will drain the fluid in the kidney. Mine does not have the hydronephrosis.
This was so helpful! I’m having this procedure tomorrow. Thank you for this video!
My heart just keeps thanking you and thanking you Dr Osoria for all you have done for me, you gave me your words that you could heal any sickness of PCOS, thank you for permanently curing. you are amazing doc #drosoria
Very informative! Thank you!
i guess noone does hands on surgery anymore for stones, its camera only it appears.
Is it true you'll experience erectile dysfunction after surgery ?
i got operated and they put stent on me, after 3 weeks it will be removed. my question is do i need to undergo another surgery?
Thank you so much that’s exactly what my doctor tell me 😊
Thank you for the information Doc.
The😊 lower back pain has been excruciating. Staying another night in the hospital 😔

Stents are hell absolutely agonising when urinating and im a strong guy but I almost scream peeing the pain in kidney is excruciating and like being punched hard in the kidney and the pain can last so it's constant agony..plus we must drink minimum of 2 litres of water daily its sure no fun! I can't imagine anything more painful
Yes I understand mine is uncomfortable upon urinating but tolerable after three days but yes you feel pain in your kidney plus I'm not popping regularly
I’m due to have this on November 1st in North Carolina! Thank you for this presentation
Also in NC scheduled next week 4/19/23. May I ask how yours went? I am really nervous.
@@LisaBrown-wy9hi mine meant well, but I had to have my stent pulled 36 hours later because it moved. All in all things went smoothly
@@LisaBrown-wy9hi I was very nervous, but it’s over before you know it
@@Campbejn Hi Jessica. Thank you for the reply. That is so thoughtful and kind. I had to go to the ER Tuesday with mine. I also have infection in the kidney, my stone had been sitting in there a good while. I was so sick from infection itself and then the stone on top of that. I am on antibiotics now though so praying that will clear up.
Got to have the removal done next week. I dread it. Thanks again!!
Is it a good idea to stay in the hospital overnight after this procedure instead of going home after it?
How much this procedure is? My doctor suggest to me to put stent..ty for your clear explantions
I have heard removing the stent is agonizing but nobody talks about it. i guess i will finc out
Thanks Dr wc medicine can I you to treat it
I also had two stints put in that rubbed me raw with my nocturnal erection,,,,
Is the stent for the hydronephrosis? Mine show no hydronephrosis.
Can I be awake during this procedure?
Iam due 1/ 31 / 24 for surgery scared yes iam 73 now not sure can handle the pain but nothing else to do has to be done i guess!
How did it go?
I have had the surgery for kidney stones #3 times and I need it again, but having the stents removed without anesthesia is barbaric!
Oh I'm not planning on being awake for that
I've had in stent in for the last 18 months and when they tried to remove it 2 weeks ago the couldn't because it was encrusted with stones. 😩
why would you keep the stent for 18 months?
@@ginu1 Covid, they stopped doing all surgeries 🙄
@@antonywilliams9767 so what happened to the stent they could not remove
@@ginu1 it's still there, with a 2nd one running alongside it. Having a 2nd attempt to remove them this month
OMG l just had a stent placed. l have an 18mm stone. Elective surgery here in Victoria suspended GOD HELP ME😥😥
hi I going to have that done
I am very worried
In my case they waited 6 weeks before the 2nd ureteroscopy. It worked; they could remove the stone. But now I have to wait another 3 weeks before they'll remove the stent. Isn't that all a bit long? (The stent is quite uncomfortable and painfull)
I am also on for 3 weeks. How are you now.
Just had the same 17 hours ago😊
SOME TIMES WE BRING THIN URETER 🤣🤣
I like it, your honest
I can't forget the pain when the doctor removed the stent.
Nooooooooo in so scared 😭😭😭
😕
Need illustrations!

😣😳🥺
WOW...this doctor's is so clear on what will actually take place with this procedure. i am going to have this done in a few weeks and i am so glad i was able to here what he had to say.. thank you so much. i wish you were my doctor.....................jk
