Hey man I really like your videos. I'm 62 USMC VETERAN and due to a disability I'm unable to work anymore, so I just ordered a beginner's kit. I going to try my hand at leather work as a hobby. Pray for me and GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. MARK
Very good tips! Gussets used to be my worst nightmare too. Another way to cheat is to sew from both sides of a two piece gusset top down to an offset from the center mark at the bottom. Stop, trim the excess and sew the two gussets together. Then sew up the remaining hole between the body and gusset. This helps when you have a radius or you have inconsistent results due to stretching ect. If you skive well and cut the excess straight I’ve had pretty good results this way.
Thanks for the tips. That one 1 inch i noticed to the previous video. I think i am starting to be more accurate at what you're teaching us. Thanks for everything. God bless you and your family.
Good job. Quick and to the point. I'm glad you changed to water base as a young man, that was a good move for your heatlh, your family will have you longer.Have a few things I still use Barge but not many open every hole in the shop when I do. Lord bless you
Thank you for being direct, concise, and straight to the point. I’ve watched so many videos and all the other beat around the bush as far as giving helpful information. Also what cylinder arm machine would you suggest for a beginner?
Thanks for the tips on this sometimes painful process! I appreciate your candor about all the "practice and trial" time you take in your design and production process.
Gussets are measured in holes 🕳 if your hand sewn. If you use so many a inch like eight. Then inches also work... just be sure the 🕳 holes 🕳 are same distance around
If you're using round corners on the body of the bag, the difference between the lengths of the outer circumference of the body and the gusset is often due to the difference between the diameter of the round corners of the body and the the corners that the gusset actually is glued to and travels. So, for example, if the 2 corners of the body combined are a half circle of 1" diameter, and the seam that the gusset uses is 1/4", that means the the corners of the body are 1" x 3.1416 ÷ 2 and the gusset's corners are (1" - 1/4" x 2) x 3.1416 ÷2, and the difference 0.7854". Thickness and stretch of the leather will change things a bit, but the above math should solve out 99% of the issue. Obviously, it's better to use bigger diameter corners with smaller seams as it reduces the stretching needed for the gusset (In the above scenario, it's a 100% stretch, and you can reduce it to 33% by using 2" diameter and 1/4" seam).
This is great advice, it’s amazing, the tiniest margins can make a huge difference to the look of a finished product. There’s nothing quite as inspiring as a skilfully sewn leather bag.
I wish I could find Aqua lamb 315 in Europe. because am not happy with water based glue I use it now for leather. it is not strong and it tooks very long to dry out, and mosty sometimes I got moist glue inside my industrial sewing machine. specially inside the feed dog. a few times was happend and I had to stop and take out feed dog and clean it. I hate that part.
I have a cobra class 20 but would love to get into more bag creation. Is it hopeless with a flat bed? Any modifications I can make with the class 20? TIA
Parker! Thanks for all your great videos! I'm getting ready to buy my first sewing machine and I'm stuck between the Cobra 26, which looks like what you are using here, and the Tech Sew 2750 pro that I've seen you do and review on in another video. I've look for compare and contrast youtube videos and couldn't find any. I know that both machines are good but would love your input to help me. Thanks!
Hey Anthony! You're right, they're both good machines. If I was going to pick one right now it would probably be the Cobra 26 just because i like the brushless motor. It's a lot more smooth that the family motor on the Techsew
#5 the cylinder arm machine... My wife lovingly purchased me a sewing machine as a surprise early Christmas gift... But it was a flatbed. It's a nightmare for sewing gussets into a bag. I would hate to disappoint her by telling her she bought the wrong machine... And it's a nice machine for what it is. But I wish she had asked me first.
I watched a video you posted about a Techsew 1570? It looks like it was about a year ago. When I look at a recent video you are using a cobra class 26. Do you no longer recommend the Techsew? And is the promo code still good? Thanks Tom
Love your work! A question: I really love the hand-sewing part and still wanna be able to make project as big as this one. Is it still possible without a machine? I understand that it will take longer, but is it still plausible? Cheers from Sweden!
I worked at a leather shop for some time, and we hand sewed everything, even much bigger bags then this. Definitely possible, but hard as shit on the hands.
The class 26 is the same machine as the Techsew 2750 pro. They’re both just clones of the juki 341. They’re much better with light to medium weight stuff. I bought the class 3 becasue I was having a hard time making it through some heavy weight projects like holsters and the heavy weight bags I do
Thanks for the tips! As usual, very helpful. Curious, what happened to the 2750? Noticed you were back on the Cobra (26?). Wondering because I just ordered a 26 because of the speed reducer and its a bit cheaper.
thank you:) I still have the techsew. The 2750 is a light-medium weight machine that I use when I need a cylinder arm. The Cobra that i'm using in this video is a class 3. Which is a clone of the 441 mechanism. It's for heavy duty stuff:)
OLD LEATHER SMITH here, Very Nice, all good tips, the 1 inch shorter is good, my preference is 2 to 4 inches longer, 4 inside Flaps 2 hold things in the bag, and not 2 fall out when opening, not all the time, 4 me it depends on how the client is going 2 use it, Thanks 4 your videos, GOD'S BLESSINGS ✝️⚾🙃

great tip thanks Samuel:)
Thanks, appreciate info regarding the type of sewing machine you used. I struggle with top stitching and quality look. Again thanks.
Parker = a man for the people! Thank you so much for this tips video!!!
hahah thanks so much man. Appreciate all your support lately:)
Think Thread length is the best idea...thanks 🙏🏾
Thank you very much for all great tips and insights. Very helpful.
Excellent video. All mistakes that I've made myself. 1" shorter was an unknown to me....great tip...worth the price of admission..lol
thanks for one inche shorter gusset tip. good to know

I wish someone would do a video on using the holster plate and why it helps when sewing molded items.
Thanks for the tips on this sometimes painful process! I appreciate your candor about all the "practice and trial" time you take in your design and production process.
Thanks a lot Tom:)
Awesome advice, cheers 🇦🇺
Thanks for your content. I learned a few things from you
That’s the part I liked in your last video
Great job👍😎
Thanks Darrin!
Thanks for the tips, I'm just getting into bags so they'll be helpful.

Would you help me with how to calculate leather wastage?
Was there a video that shows more of this bag being made?
Have you considered using the Stirrup Plate which is specifically intended to be used for sewing gussets ?
My friend, thank you very much, keep going.. أشكرك جزيل الشكر .. 💚💯🙏والتقدير والاحترام استمر
The 1" rule would vary, I think, depending on what seam allowance you use. Is that a Cobra 26 machine that you're using? Love it!
Always something new... Thank you )
My pleasure! Thanks for watching:)
Can you do a pattern for a crossbody conceal carry bag?

Can I sew light weight leather on my Viking domestic mchine
I have a cobra class 20 but would love to get into more bag creation. Is it hopeless with a flat bed? Any modifications I can make with the class 20?
TIA
You mention larger canvas bags. Always been a fan of the duluth old school bags! Any photos to throw up on insta?
How much is your sowing Machine
Is there a specific reason why the seam is on inside of front but on outside on back?
Can you please tell me where you buy the carboard boxes that you put the wallets in for your customers . Preferably online stores
Thanks Parker! Awesome tips! Why do you use 3 pieces of leather instead of one continuous piece to make the gussets? Awesome bag!
Thank you
Que número de hilo usa Arriba y abajo
do you still use Texsew machines , i see a cowboy sewing machine. i have seen little king leather also not using a texsew machine. ???
Super helpful. Thanks
What size needle and thread do you recommend using with the cobra for doing bags? Thanks!
Subbed! Thank you for the tips!
Great information. Thanks 😊!!

Practice is key, I’ve practiced so much until I finally feel confident

Molly Briggs I agree! That's why I'm planing on getting a fairly large cylinder arm machine. My hands cramp up so damn bad hand stitching.
Hi, can I order bags from you?
Where do you buy your leather??
Do you think a Cobra 26 could do the work you mostly do as well?
The class 26 is the same machine as the Techsew 2750 pro. They’re both just clones of the juki 341. They’re much better with light to medium weight stuff. I bought the class 3 becasue I was having a hard time making it through some heavy weight projects like holsters and the heavy weight bags I do
