Wait he’s supposed to stop an ambulance from getting to a hospital and there’s time to bring the specific hit man to your office, have a leisurely talk about “the way things work” and “I hate you but I need you.” AND “we’re a lot alike you and I.” Patient’s already DOA.
You are the only voice of reason in this comments section. Cinema is dead. May God have mercy on our souls 🤣
The whole plot is pretty full of holes. The animation not the best either. The way he looks around the corner, while being completely exposed already? The unnatural way the truck blows and falls.... As a fan made project it would be all-right. Nothing to hype though.
Could be a patient transfer
I thought I was the only one picking up on this. Time's an issue, but making a good impression is a more important issue apparently
Well first homie had a damn jet ✈️ he pulled up in. Second this is taking a place in a island. Third all the vehicles aren’t being driven by humans (that’s why there was no panic after he shot the rocket. I’m disappointed this is a battle royal. Good trailer in my opinion.
Odd thing is the one thing I liked most was the office as the concept of having a glass floor overlooking greenery would be a great look
it's a nice aesthetic.
Wouldn't last long , considering the trees need sunlight to survive...
@@6pici6 fancy grow lights maybe?🤔🤔
Same here :)
@@6pici6 you should see how many “trees” we have surviving inside in Michigan….
Grow lights….
they should try use cascadeur for animation, its physics based, to loosen the posture to be more organic and natural.
They said they wanted somethings to come off as computer generated to keep that fantastical appearance not based on the laws of the real world.
@@farrdawgjoker7087 yep, if they’d wanted fluidity that looked natural it’d have been mocapped for the best nuance like he’s done for years.
Fantastical? It just looks dated…
No cascadeur in cascadia.
Jeez isn’t it ever ‘good enough’, oh it could be just a tad bit more amazing right? This has got to be some top notch as is or I’m just getting old. 🤨
The dialogue and animations could use some work but those environments were just, wow.
Imagine a full-length movie done in Unreal Engine, followed by a game in that same universe? The following would be insane 😳
If done well, yes.
@@MrAstrojensen Kinda brilliant actually. Pay movie budget to the creation of an ultra fleshed out "digital set" which is the game world but is actually just a map that contains every scene in the movie but is reusable forever as a piece of data. Those digital sets aka maps just get directly ported into the game to actually play inside the movie world frame matching all details from the movie.
Why would that be insane? A bunch of games are halfway there. The issue isn't that no one can do it, it's if it's a good idea. This may look decent, but it still falls squarely into the uncanny valley, and it completely looks like a video game cut scene. That's not necessarily appealing to movie-going audiences.
@@hose3462 You're a fun guy
Yeah, imagine Wes Anderson directing a sequel to the Pixel Movie
JTFC! Blomkamp is a bloody genius! I do hope he gets back in the directors seat and we get a delightfully, seductive, gritty, gnarly and epic film. I can see Jonathon Majors or Giancarlo Esposito in the role of the CEO and Frank Grillo in the role of the merc for hire.
Worst mistake Ridley Scott ever made, not green lighting Blomkamps' Alien. Did you hear the new Alien film is all about Millennials? Can't make this stuff up..
@@Karmakatt6 JTFC! It’s the law of diminishing returns! That’s so disappointing to hear.
@@willienelsongonzalez4609 Jesus Titty Fucking Christ??
@@ContrastComparison Yes!
Neill Blomkamp’s sequel to Aliens would have been so awesome. I can’t believe Fox greenlit Ridley Scott’s crap instead.
Neill Blompkamp is so underrated. His movies after District 9 didn't have the best stories, but his visuals are always top notch.
No one does believable, near future sci -fi like him, all of his worlds feel lived in and grounded in a way that you don't see often in modern science fiction.
I don't think you know what underrated means. District 9 was pretty much the definition of universal praise and got him the ability to make pretty much any film he wanted to. Even with his subsequent failures, he's still got enough caché to do what he wants. This is all the opposite of "underrated".
The hate he got for Chappie made me really sad. He's a fantastic director, and I personally liked Chappie. Wish we could get more of that universe.
@Bad Samaritan Chapie was awful and casting die Antwoord was the worst form of nepotism.
@@badsamaritan8223 I think he made the mistake of trying to turn his dystopian near-future scifi ideas PG, while casting die Antwoord (an R-Rated rapper)
It was always meant to stay R.
I think he'd do great if he paired up with a brilliant script writer. His ideas and visuals are 100% top notch, but script is usually what sells a film.
Doing a battle royale is a great idea though, because story doesnt matter.
Yes, but those stories...
This dude is so talented, why is he not making more big budget movies?
Boggles the mind
one word: chappie
hollywood is nieces and nephews. who are allowed to make a thousand chappie's. if you are not related you are allowed to make one misstep. one of the best film makers of all time, turned to wine making to escape tinseltown nepotism.
I thought Chappie was pretty good; much more interesting than many of the action movies Hollywood churns out, because there was a bit more investment in the characters. This video game trailer, though, looks dull.
Or an epic single player campaign
The Cascadia AI is surreal. Vincent Roberts speaking to the AI in a soundproof + signal-jammed room to seek its advice and guidance feels like the world we're headed into in 2030. Vincent expresses his worries about Kevin & Riggs (he even is scared enough to look over his shoulder while confessing to the AI) and getting the AI's feedback is the symbiotic, in-tandem relationship humans and AI will soon have in our future. Props to N. Blomkamp and R. Morgan!
I think the CEO is the AI.
Roberts is trying to convince it, but it's many steps ahead, so it implies.
Feels more like he's begging. He's a slave . Completely at the mercy of the AI, and so are the rest of the C-suite. The AI is holding all the strings, it made that pretty clear.
Damn even on cg this has all the Blomkamp look to it.
This needs to be a full single player story.
A movie more like..
Totally agree. Battle royal is such a waste of his atmospherics and world building talents. Watch amazing cutscenes then spend the rest of the game hearing teenagers screaming over voice chat.
@@rizzo-films as soon as I seen "battle royale" I instantly wrote it off.
Hear Hear! At least I probably have time to save £££ for a fresh build with a 5000 series when they show up.
Games are just too competitive these days for the sake of being competitive. Life is stressful enough, I don’t want any more of that.
Had no right being that good for 6 minutes.
How was it good? The animations were bad and they had time to meet and chit chat while this ambulance is headed to the hospital? Is it stuck in traffic for a few hours? This writing is horrible.
Aww man! I was gearing up for much much more! This could have been a full length movie!
I‘d so much love to see a whole movie in this style! 😊
Over all looked good. The movements of the characters and uncanny valley hit at a few points. Even so, it is still impressive. Soon we won't even need actors to act out movies.
Humans will always have acting roles, but the sooner they are taken down a few pegs the better. Celebrity worship is really gross and toxic.
ye the animation is poorly done imo
The walk cycles are stiffer than Brave Starr (can't believe that was my favorite cartoon as a kid). If they redo the mocap it'll be really good.
@@YourLocalZombie Braveeee Staaarrrrrr
@@fleezybaby said like someone who has never animated. Just because it's not perfect doesn't mean it's poor.
I will never be satisfied until I see a full film based on firebase. Chop chop neill.
OMG so much this! Firebase was so awesome!!!!
Agreed. I would pay good money to see Firebase made into a full length feature.
When is bloomkamp doing the sequel to district 9 🤩
District 10 is already in the works.
I love the dichotomy of the interaction. They despise each other, but the are the same person on the opposite side.
Just like Dick Jones and Clarence Boddicker in ROBOCOP.
It sounds like it was written by a 14 year old, it's cringe.
Chandler is at least up front about the kind of person he is. Victor tries to hide his atrocities with an expensive suit and corporate mannerisms.
@@craigix you'll never be satisfied
I think they both hate each other because even if they don't see the resemblance, they hate that they have to deal with their equivalent. The boss guy hates that the soldier is such a loose, flippant, cannon, and the soldier hates that the boss guy gets to boss him around from the crystal tower. It's a great relationship, and I wouldn't be surprised if the story has the two of them face off at the end. Even being all prologue, this is a great story.
At some point in time i bet we wont even need real life actors anymore. Graphics will be so real that we wouldn't even know the difference! crazy!
Idk if you know but he does Oats studios on RUclips which I believe it’s on Netflix. It’s shorts like this of random stuff.
How do you know that we are not already several billion meta-simulation layers deep and we are witnessing the birth of the next layer?
@@Interdiffusion best not to think about it too much I think lmao
They still have that UNCANNY VALLEY look in their faces. The perfect (short term) solution now would just be to use real humans for the closeups and CGI for the long shots. They still haven't fixed the 'weird fake look' in the eyes and the facial movements. Also, the people move too much. We stand still a lot more than they depict in CGI.
We dont want a video game, we want a full moovie about it.
This.
no we dont
RUclips TV show
Don't say "WE". You don't speak for all of us. TY
We want a movie
That Vincent's acting was really well done. Felt like a real person you could see everyday.
Chandler's combat vest however seemed ancient.
I’m not sure what I just watched, but it was damn entertaining!!
Neill Blomkamp (District 9, Elysium) and Script Writer Richard K. Morgan (Altered Carbon, Crysis) - This sounds amazing!
wow, I didn't realize the movies and games these people were involved with. Thanks
Oh wow the dude that wrote that fucking dog shit adaptation Of altered carbon is in this, no wonder it was crap
*Neil is a master in VFX, and this looks like a clip more than a trailer*
I read the comments first. Definitely fan based reactions. Don't get me wrong- tech wise, its beyond gorgeous; an absolute spectacular achievement. All the rest wasn't mind blowing. Probably will be an awesome GAME though. (If that voice actor turns off his "try hard" accent)
Looks really good, I must admit it's blurring the lines between gaming & movies 👀
Yea just what I was thinking.
Sometime wish they would just make them movies haha.
very cool! I wish this was a movie or series. I'd gladly pay to watch it.
Neill's always on the point, always delivers
So what is this? A movie? TV show? Video game? Vignette ? Whatever it is I'm digging it and can't wait to see more!
technology is so good it really helps unleash anyone's creative potential to make short films like this with out expensive equipment.
Those characters were incredibly realistic! There were times I thought they were real actors but overlayed with graphics. Bravo!
Really ! You should get out more often.
They are, it's called motion capture. But they still look off. Their walk is unrealistic. Facial needs some work aswell.
nothing revolutionary
@@roverwaters3875 Um, this is rendered on standard PCs - if you don't understand this is revolutionary WTF do you think is?
Chandler really needs to clear his throat. The whole thing looks damn good though.
Well done Neill!!
There is room for polishing. Thought always interesting to see Neil's work.
Neill Blomkamp seems pretty damn cool and should make that Firebase a full length movie, and also Rakka.
That is the best black hair I've ever seen on CG.
Damn impressive!! I legit want to see a miniseries or movie length feature with shows that have the same undertones and style as Off the grid and some of the features in the Love, Death and Robots series. It seems like using UE5 engine to create shows would be cheaper to produce than a live action series.
Wow! Neill Blomkamp's bingo card filled within seconds!
Evil corporation - check
Filthy loose cannon merc - check
Over-expository dialog - check
Scary technology - check
Giant holes in logic - check
For all my respect for his craft, Neill continues to use same old tropes. He desperately needs a co-writer.
" You know next time, Just call" Lol thats what I was thinking just before he said it .
Very cool, but there are some aspects that still feel off or just a little too "uncanny valley"ish. For example, the Vincent characters hands on the desk, the way the characters walk, etc. Still, seems like a cool universe they're building, and I am extremely curious to see actual gameplay.
That ambulance sure took its sweet, sweet time getting to the hospital. XD
Get the feeling that UE6 or 7 will be the death of the live film and tv production industry? This clip is close but the closeups are still obviously artificial but its not an insurmountable hurdle that it used to be... Ha I saw Cyberpunk and I instantly clicked into 2077 mode which this isnt but I am glad that the genre is growing, cyberpunk is the best of genres to gameify! Agreed on Neils skills his vision of the future is just amazing, did you know he was going to be directing an alt-timeline version of Alien3 with older Ripley and Hicks? Check it out its wild and as an audience i think we will eternally regret that he was not able to bring his skills to the Alien universe :( Maybe the game industry is a better fit for his skills, none of that hollywood bullshit to deal with, and oyu know any game with his fingerprint will sell well...
Yep AI + UE6
We need the next District movie!!
I need this but as a full fledged movie 🤩!!!
Combat footage looks just like modern day South Africa. Very cool!
Wow. Where did this come from!? Amazing visuals, great setting, fantastic writing... Wish it was a single-player game or movie though.
This. I'm actually upset this isn't being made into a feature length film or a series. Guaranteed, the game will be a disappointing shell of what this story hints could have been, with Blomkamp and Morgan working together like this.
Remember that character from the Chip n Dale movie? In the abandoned cartoon characters town who had those soulless CG eyes? I laughed pretty hard at that but now I see it in this amazing animation. Those lifeless eyes haunt me as they stare into the distance.
Getting closer all the time to reality. Only thing that looked off to me is the ambulance flip made it look like the van was too light, made out of cardboard. But whew, will be an interesting future as this tech is democratized and anyone with the skill and time could make an entire film this way.
Wrong the animation was horrible. There are video games with way better and more natural looking animation
I've often thought if they ever made a movie set in Cyberpunk's Night City, Neil would be the best choice for it. This rather validates my opinion on the matter.
He was going to make Aliens 2, then he was going to make a Terminater 3, then he was going to make a Robocop movie... this combined with his awesome skill makes him the greatest pr## tease in Hollywood.
Now it looks like he's specialising in the "exciting" field of shorts. Because who wants an awesome and immersive 2 hour movie from a great director when we ccan have little teaser snippets? (Jeepers this guy's voice is driving me crazy btw)
This is simultaneously a glimpse at technology, we will want and need but at the same time, be afraid of
Neil Blompkamp is a sci fi genius. It has been too long since we had a feature from him. Please, let this guy loose.
It sounds like they wanted a Michael Wincott type voice for the contractor and what they got was Krusty the Clown trying to sound tough.
Who ever created this needs a applause 😎👍
Story written by Richard Gigachad Fucking Morgan .
I just rewatched District 9 this week! Duude this might not suck
The Elysium vibes were strong with this.
I want more! This is amazing!
The voice acting on the character Chandler was something, kinda reminded me Micky Rourke, if that was what they were aiming for, it worked.
The office reminds me of the Abstergo office in Black Flag
The guy's last name is even Roberts
This seems like it could be part of the cyberpunk 2077 universe
Neil Blomkamp should live stream gameplay of Cyberpunk 2077.
Bruh... We spent too much time in the office talking exposition. Should've just been Chandler getting a call. "Need you to take out this ambulance going here, discreetly" Chandler does this shit. We see him ice everyone inside the ambulance and gets spotted. Says "You wouldn't call me if you wanted discreet." Then, Office man tells the AI "We've got to clean our ranks."
I need the characters to be hyper-realistic to get into gaming. I have no business playing video games at my age, but I will when it's integrated with super AI and hyper-realism. And game play.
Hey, we need this ambulance thing taken care of on the low low.
"No problem, I'll just RPG a common ambulance driving down the highway in broad daylight, that won't raise any eyebrows or create inconvenient questions"😆
I want two hours of that.
This is great. i want MORE!!!
Love Neill's work. Why isn't Hellywood throwing him cash to create his world? i wonder how he would've handled the Dune movies.
Sad thing is this is 10x better than most of the crap out there on Netflix.
That's ' Mr.Cuba Denzel Washingon Gooding".
Bravo, Neil. I wanna see where this story is headed. I'm especially intrigued by, what appears to be artificial general intelligence (or on the verge of becoming A.G.I.).
This is absolutely fantastic! I can't wait to see more!
Amazing! just amazing
We want a full Rakka movie! bring it on Blomkamp!
Extremely impressive work. Good immersive writing and well paced scenes! Getting very plausible near future vibes from it. Almost felt like i was watching a westworld episode (and i mean that in the best way)
Love Blomkamp!
That's either the slowest ambulance in the world...or they traveling interstate ~
"Off The Grid is an upcoming cyberpunk Battle Royale multiplayer shooter game from Neill Blomkamp" thought it was a full movie or something...
I would watch a movie like this.
RIP to my 3080ti. You were a good GPU, a beloved part of my family.
Best director in sci-fi we need more films from him. Imagine if he worked with Adrian Tchaikovsky and made a movie of children of time .
I feel like this sort of thing is the future of movies.
its been the future of movies for a while now. unreal 5 has been used in movie/show production for a few years already. mandalorian being one of them.
I heard at around the 20 minutes into the full film your theater seat just flies off into the air into infinity with you in it.
People say it reminds them of the original release 🤣😂
Voice actor of main character have voice sharp like woodchipper
Respect from Poland ;)
I need moreeee !!!
that vocal fry is more realistic than the graphics.
It almost reaches 100% fry at one point, stirring stuff.
It was a question of time till movies became interactive movies. ;)
This rendering engines are getting better and better 😳
Was expecting Adam Jensen to walk out of that helo/jet/flying thing
Hope the game is as good as the cinematic. Lets all keep our fingers crossed because I need a GOW5 replacement snice it sucks now thanks to macros controls.🙏🙏
all that talent, a sweet jungle cyberpunk setting, AI overlords and cyborgs and they waste it on a battle royale...
Hey this was done really really well.
That was dope
@Rizla This dude is so talented, why is he not making more big budget movies?
Probably because he wants/demands artistic freedom. From Hollywood's standpoint Chappie/Elysium is the leverage they would use to tie up the development/editing/final cut and purse strings. Perhaps we will see more of his work in the mainstream markets now that sci-fi has gained attractiveness since Chappie/Elysium. Much respect to this director/artist.
This is nuts, I dunno what's all going on here. But it's great
Neill Blomkamp is awesome!
Establishing shots were okay, if a bit flat. As soon as the first 'character' showed up though, nothing but uncanny. Dialogue was less than stellar. And we needed at least one shot of the 'target' for a payoff. No such luck.
Its a teaser!
@@nneisler Sure it is. But even 2 minute trailers will give at least a hint of what's behind the curtain...
