As a musician, you might appreciate my theory on this song. I think, musically, it’s a metaphor for drowning. Follow II’s drums and how they grow in the second verse, then roll in the second chorus, then crash throughout the final section. The tension of that last breakdown section grows, too, and I interpret that part as the thrashing and panic of drowning before it rises into that distorted ending that falls off to a single note. From “… we will ever be together” to that note is about a minute and a half, and it takes roughly that long to drown after submerging for the final time. I’m probably wrong, not that any interpretation truly is or isn’t, but it just all comes together in my head to create that picture and feeling.
This song absolutely broke me the first time I listened to it. It's reminding me of so many things about my life, my mom. Probably on my top 3 on the album.
I didn't even notice that! I am starting to think I have listened to these a bit too quickly! Like when you binge watch 8 seasons of a show in 2 weeks and they all blend together 😂
@@BraindeadBreakdown 😆 yeah it happens. Not going to spoil anything for you, but TMBTE has a few of those little references, you already heard one in the TMBTE song reaction. It's a fun journey for sure.
YES ITS HERE! I was hoping you were gonna drop this before I had to work today!! This song is my fave on TPWBYT. (it came at a time when it was the most relevant song to my life I could have ever heard--Vessel speaks volumes in so few words and manages to say things I've not really heard before.) "When the mouth of infinity Buries its teeth in me I'll smile through the agony for you And I know you still bear the weight of your own existence And you'll never bear the weight of two" Just hits so hard. I haven't said it but I appreciate so much that you've gone from the start of ST all the way through and have made the same journey so many of us have. I look forward to these everyday ^^ Keep being awesome!
Thank you very much BruceBatWayneMan! I am glad it managed to drop before you had to leave for work 😊 I will continue to be myself, I am glad you are enjoying it!
This is my favorite from the album. The "I can't hold myself together" feels like a declaration of hopelessness and the music surrounding feels like a complete emotional breakdown.
And this is where I think we see the full synchronization of Vessel and ii’s timing into the intricate patterns we really love digging into. I honestly think ii is one of the most technically sound drummers I’ve ever heard, and one of the only that I’d gladly just listen to drum tracks from. I selfishly want to see you do a lyrical review of these albums. Mainly because this is one of the biggest impact points lyrically for the overall story, from what I gather. I’ve heard references to death, relationships ending, and loss of a child being all being what people think Vessel is referring to in the lyrics. I do feel like ii is carrying a lot more emotion than previously in this song, and I love it! Again, great reaction! Worship 🙏🏼
Starting with "Chokehold" I will be reviewing the lyrics after I finish the song. That way I can still do my music-first approach but also give a bit of insight into what I think about the lyrics. I can't promise my lyrical commentary will be groundbreaking, but I will give it a shot! 😊
@@BraindeadBreakdown I’m just interested to hear your thoughts and opinions- I’m not so deep into the lore as to say what I know is canon, and I still really enjoy the insights from others and how it makes my brain reframe the music.
@@stonekeeper09 This. I wouldn't mind waiting an extra couple days while you re listen to these last 2 albums and soak in the lyrics a bit before you get into Take Me Back To Eden. It will seriously deepen your experience with the album IMO.
To call back to a comment i made last time, this song is my warm hug. The ending feels like a release of emotions that you hold in for years until one day you don't.
My favorite sound they use out of their entire discography is that distorted radar beeping noise that they tonalize. It comes back on Eden at some point (can't recall which rn), but I was so happy when I heard it pop up again. I am so excited for Missing Limbs. The end of the song is super grating, but I have a theory on the noise it's representing, which I'll post on the actual reaction vid tomorrow.
High Water makes me picture crashing waves during those parts where the notes he sings are climbing and dropping. Musical community is great, especially recently. Just since early this summer, I kind of "woke up" from being on autopilot for more than a decade. Funny enough is it was Last Resort Reimagined that did it. From there, I've been soaking up as much rock/metal music as I can get. Sleep Token was another step in that journey, and I absolutely love watching other ppl discover them. Thank you for another great reaction. ❤
Perhaps it's less happiness and more the relief of release? They've built the momentum of so many different emotions musically and lyrically through this album, High Water is like a primal scream (literally) relieving the pressure. Maybe not to a positive end, but to a conclusion of decision, at least. A lanced wound still hurts. When two people are drowning and clawing at each other to remain above water one of you has to let go or you'll both drown. This song feels like that decision to let go.
You could be right, but quite often I do tend to feel happiness in the musically complex ST songs 😊 I am not saying that is what is intended, but that is what happens to me 😂

Easily my favorite Sleep Token song. I'm sure it's been commented already, but the main synth lead is the same from Jaws. It's also the intro piano riff from Blood Sport. The vocals, synths, drums, and finally the guitar. Everything hits so perfectly.
The tumultuous middle of the relationship. You want to reconcile and stay together but you know in the back of your mind that it's potentially frivolous. That screencap for the video is awesome btw 🤘🔥🤘

This one is a repeater for me. There's the call backs in the music and words and then the movie in my head with the characters the music has become. There are some people (like my brothers) who got WTWB straight away and loved it! There are just some people who can't stand heavy instrumentation in any form. I do somewhat understand it, I just hate the general combativeness of the responses. Example of the opposite: Recently I recorded a reaction to the entire Pain Remains trilogy by Lorna Shore. But after watching it back, I have decided not to post it. It was the most negative I have been in a video thus far. I didn't tear it to pieces, I tried to do what I always do and just view the musicianship. However by part 2, the constant pace of the drums, guitar and bass was nearly sending me into sensory overload and I could not take it. The music video should have been effecting me but it wasn't, my brain shut off and all it was trying to do was fight off the overload. So I can completely understand how some people can NOT TAKE heavy music at all, but they don't need to instantly turn on the "f you, f this" attitude about it. Sorry, that was a bit of a ramble 😂
Yes it is a neurodivergent thing. I have Chromesthesia, so I literally see different colors/patterns/shapes whether I am listening to Vessel's voice acapella, just the instrumental track or the whole song. I am hoping to hear his speaking voice someday so I can see what his voice truly looks like. I experience waves of sensations. From goosebumps, to feeling like I am suffocating, to feelings of floating or drowning in water or air. ST music has shown me the most heartbreakingly beautiful tapestries and made me feel every note, every syllable, every breath. I am almost at the point that I am having difficulty listening to other music. Mostly because it's not as gorgeous or doesn't invoke a physical response.
I don’t see colors or anything but musical experience is very much a part of the neurodivergent experience imo. I’m ADHD and 99% sure I’ve got a Touch of the tism, and sensory overload is a major thing for me (being asked to fill out paperwork AND have a conversation in a dental waiting room that was blasting Spanish pop music and had people talking in the background was a recent experience that is like my ultimate Sensory Overload Hell, I was so miserable 😅) and having too much going on just fries my brain. I try to pay attention to every little bit and it is Too Much, so really loud music with a lot going on is chaotic af and makes me feel on edge. Honestly I’m amazed I got into Sleep Token, considering my first song was The Summoning and that starts off harder than a lot of stuff I listen to! But they seem to have found the perfect balance of mixing it all together. Then you add in hyperfixation and that’s how you get the same 10 of us in the comments of 90% of all Sleep Token-related videos 😂😂😂 Plus some shit just shakes you to your core and ST absolutely did that for me. It took me three weeks before I could even try their earlier stuff because TMBTE knocked me on my ass so damn hard I needed time to recover 😅
As a musician, you might appreciate my theory on this song. I think, musically, it’s a metaphor for drowning. But they seem to have found the perfect balance of mixing it all together. Then you add in hyperfixation and that’s how you get the same 10 of us in the comments of 90% of all Sleep Token-related videos 😂😂😂
Plus some shit just shakes you to your core and ST absolutely did that for me. It took me three weeks before I could even try their earlier stuff because TMBTE knocked me on my ass so damn hard I needed time to recover 😅
Just noticed the thumbnail. You're Vessel arent you? Very clever pretending to be a RUclipsr reacting to your band...🤔
😉
Damn, how did you figure it out? I mean, that totally isn't a photoshopped mask or anything 😜
