I love the Ventures ! Bridge is awesome song. I play the ventures in my VWBeetle , roll down window, turn it up, i start surf dance moves, people smile. As a school bus charter driver , play the Ventures and start my surf dance and broom for guitar, as they reboard. Kids love it. Best band , best music ever.
@MrCaddilac Nokie quit the band twice (1967 & 1984), both times being replace by Gerry McGee. Gerry is as much the lead guitar player for the Ventures as Nokie, and has actually had the job for longer. Nokie still plays lead at most Ventures in the USA and a short annual winter tour of Japan as 'special guest artist'.
to me...bridge sounds like something Eric Johnson would play...now maybe u guys would know this: Did the guys have a grudge w/ Nokie (or vise versa) or what? what happend?
Dude I've been thinking the same thing! I bet that line-up could sell out Radio City Music Hall (put Dick Dale in place of the Spotnick and it would be a sure thing - tho I've prefer to see the spacemen from Sweeden myself).
I use to watch Jerry McGee live before the Ventures. Sorry but Nokie is nothing compared to Jerry. Jerry holds back. He'd play regularly at the Seawich on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood. It was Jerry McGee and the Ventures. Jerry is awesome. Nokie just gets by with a group.
That is your opinion. Nokie is a founding member of the band and was a great guitarist. Gerry is good and as you said maybe he held back. Who cares? I think Nokie was better technically and tastefully, but Gerry was quite good and fun to listen to.

やっぱり個人的には、ジェリー氏のリードギターが一番だなぁ。
ボブ・ボーグル氏やノーキー氏も勿論偉大だったしボブスポ氏も嫌いじゃないけど、1968年の加入以来ベンチャーズに和風の演歌ブームやサザンのようなポップス系インスト曲を築き上げた功績は大きいと思う。
1968年にジェリーがベンチャーズに加入以来、ベンチャーズ歌謡などが生まれたんですか。そしたら、その功績は大です。日本にもたくさんオリジナル曲を残してくれてますし、世界的なギタリストといえますね。素晴らしい。最高です。

Nokie and Gerry have different styles, they are both great.
