I was going to say that I do not like the short takes, but this one was pretty nice a clear message delivered well
Thank you
@NeevesKnives so you sharpen up to 600 grit then go to the strop? And if so what strop compound is needed ?
Bro, your free hand sharpening looks better than the sharpening I do in my KME.
Thanks for spilling the magic beans on the grit you little Tinker you 😝😝have a beautiful day J&K stay safe and healthy both ✌️
Yepper, while the City sleeps, Mr. Sharp is busy, busy, busy.. ✨🙀
Great job! Looks very sharp! Thanks 😊 🙏
I hear alot of people say bad things about d2, but in my experience you can get a wicked edge on it and it holds fairly decent. I usually like to keep my knife sharp though so I'm always touching it up on a strope and I touch the edge up at least once a month. But for as much hate as it gets, I think it's really underrated.
D2 is a decent steel it's just that it wasn't made for production heat treatment so the d2 we see is not the potential it should be
Bro, your short videos are inspiring me! Amazing content. And I could tell you are passionate about what you do.
Peace Brother, Love those Sheepdogs!
That's a nice looking sharpening stone and it's great that you have a good free hand sharpening skill. I wonder if you could design a device to place a knife on and set a desired angle, so that someone without a good skill can also sharpen with a sharpening stone like this.
Not to steal anyone's thunder but they make sharpening guides, the little blue ones. Sharpening supplies have them and chef knives to go have them also. You can use them on any stone and a set comes with angle guides from like 10 or something all the way past 20. Hope this helps
One of my favorite carry uses GV10.
Thanks for another great video. I always learn something new.
Great video Jared. I learn a whole lot from you. You are the professor of knives and sharpening. You should start an online course. I would be the first to enroll!!!!
Can you show us how to sharp a victorinox Swiss army
Respect! Q! Can you get an edge like that on any steel? I've been an avid knife enthusiast since I was a kid, I'm nearly 60! What's the secret?
Yes you can on most decent steels. Get a landsky guided sharpening kit and set it at 17 degrees.
@@markjob7736 thanks for the advice 🙏
Hey buddy how much do you charge for sharpening knives. And what do I do just fed ex it to you. Most of my knives I would send you are Spyderco knives. And 1 more question Neeve how long would it take for me to get back after you got it I live in Pennsylvania.
When you sharpen 1 side. Do you have a specific time you sharpen like for example, each side you do 20 strike?/stroke?/sharpen?/
Thank you for your knowledge!🤪
Good tips my man. I'm a novice Smith and currently absorbing as much as I can. I can make a pretty decent blade, holds an edge, cuts almost as good as what you showed here. I use s7 for punches, drifts and such, and have a few 6 foot sheets of 4140. What's a good grit recommendation for a slicey edge using the 4140? Thanks bro.
And thank you very much Jared
nice work man
What micron you running on the strop??
Same with S45 in your opinion?
I’ve got a Kizer sliver in s35vn, and the burr is difficult to remove, so my question is the heat treatment effect blade shapes in the same steel? Another words, is the sheepsfoot to a fine drop point shape heat treatment effect the hardness?
I don't have any S35VN steel, but I have two Spyderco's with black coated CPMS30V plain edge blades, and one Spyderco LC200N blade. I've used my Sharpmaker to hone the one black blade but just kept the Spydiechef with its factory edge, by only cutting paper and receipt paper with it.
Is LC200N difficult to hone, and does it hold an edge well, considering that it's made by Spyderco. I thought that might have implications to the heat treatment. I really like their knives.
That's a beautiful clean edge.
Thank you
When you say 600 grit that means diamond stone right? Not whetstone? I have 1k through 10k stones but Japanese whetstones
😲 Perfectly
good 👍
Alright, I need to know what catalog you keep cutting up?
Looked like one from bladeHQ and one from smokey mountain knife works
Google doc for steel edge recommendations?
That's beautiful
Muito bom 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
What do you use in your sprayer ? Windex?
What do you mean when you say a slick edge?
.
Prefering this process with machine or with hands ?!!?..😉
What type of edge do you recommend for 5Cr15 metal?
Hmm I like 1000 on Kizer s35vn. On my Cold Steel I went 800. I put a dual grit edge on my bestech Swordfish 400/1200 so 400 on the clip side and 1200 on the show. I find a bit of variation in s35vn heat treatment, not as bad as m390 mind, but a bit. Which surprised me some, I would have expected it in 154cm but not s35vn. I don't expect it in D2 -as a cheap to manufacture air hardening Steel it's stupid easy to do. (I'm over chippy ass D2 though, so no more D2 knives).
TL;DR: a lot of variation in s35vn check your "best" grit per knife.
35vn is a steel is a steel steel 😜😃
My FF/Drop Gent has a 1k grit 17 dps edge and rolls so easily, I’m not sure if the steel is just soft or if it’s too fine of an edge. It does strop back to razor sharp after a couple of passes
If it's rolling easily then it's soft or poor heat treatment, that blade should have no issues with rolling at 17° with regular use, try adding a micro bevel, or you cab convex your edge, or raise the angle, any of the 3 will help
@@NeevesKnives what sharpener are you using
I am a papered chef I have a set of Henkels that are just as sharp as the day I got them, I'm looking for a new 8 inch chefs blade, any ideas? By the way my 12 inch blade took the end of my thumb off back in 1999, it went through it like it wasn't there
No, they aren't.
Is 20CV similar? The edge on my Malibu got slick and is a pain to sharpen.
20cv depends on the hear treatment if done well it usually takes a good edge regardless the grit, my guess as is your angle is to high try lowering it
You free handed it and claim it’s at a 17° edge. Are you a wizard?
You know that he has shit to test the edge... It's not that complicated. He knows exactly what it comes out as.
That's what happens when you've sharpened thousands of knives. His entire life is dedicated to sharpening knives. It's the same as any other profession. You can always tell when someone isn't a professional at anything. They're baffled at how they can know and do things that seem complicated or impossible to the uninitiated/untrained, but are second nature to a professional.
Chris, even if it’s 16. Does it really bother you that much? Go touch some grass
@@Will34117 😂 ive never heard that one “go touch some grass”
Guessing the stone was 600 grit but what was the Gunny juice grit? Or were they both 600
The gunny juice was 6 micron.
Probably won't see this message because the video is so old but i see some very minor spots on that edge😂
I doubt that, but hey I'm not perfect just close to it 😉
Can any of you guys give me some goof recommendations for a nice knife to get for a guy that's not too expensive, but at the same time isn't an obvious.. oh they got the cheapy one.... LoL I want one that's still respectable enough not to be embarrassing to pull it out. He rides bikes and lhe really ikes his rugged street cred... Wouldn't want to damage that 🤣
Would a ball bearing in a square or triangle not be a bit better to have under the blade rather than your finger holding it at at angle and you loosing or rubbing your print off? 🤷♂️
Curious. (love your work by the way)
✌️
What does a “slick” edge mean?
It means it doesn't have bite, it might be sharp, but no bite, you can touch it easily without the edge wanting to bite into your skin
Also a slick edge will slide off material without cutting it. (Example= rope)
Lol the Kizer destroyed the Benchmade as usual
I wonder if there are going to be any health issues with people exposed to micro diamonds. getting very small pieces of carbon fiber in the body can be rather detrimental.
Did you follow neeves knives in 2022, did you sharpen with diamonds, you might be entitled to compensation. Contact Dewey, Screwem And Howe.
Diamonds are relatively harmless, unless you breathe them or get them in your eyes.
So, from what I understand, you shouldn't get any health issues.
Wtf are you doing? You don’t push the blade into the stone; you pull it away! You can still use a pushing motion to accomplish this, but you need to flip the blade over so that blade isnt digging into the stone.
Sorry man I can't like the vid rn it has 777 likes
