    I've been carrying and using the para3 in S45VN for a lil bit now and I absolutely love the way it responds to quick touch-ups on venevs and stropping on diamonds! It takes very little work to bring back a scary sticky edge and it seems to hold it oddly well for how easily it sharpens!

      Get the ultra sharp 300 and 600, if you want the 1200 you can get the 3 pack I link for around 50$ for the 2× 6 plates, the 3×8s are more expensive, make sure you also get a stone holder

    • @NeevesKnives
      @NeevesKnives  3 года назад

      Yeah im hoping to get more and more to see if theres large variables between companies and ht, ive noticed that about some steels it really depends on whos doing it and how well its done while other steels just seem to be similar across the board for the most part

    • @CNYKnifeNerd
      @CNYKnifeNerd 3 года назад +1

      @@NeevesKnives
      Is this your only example of S45VN so far?
      I absolutely love Hinderer knives, but I'd be really surprised if his HT is getting the most out of the steel, edge retention wise.
      Spydercos S45VN has been very comparable to S30V in my experience, while sharpening a bit easier, which I've found to be the only real downside to S30V. Ive only tried it in that one model though.
      M4 has been my most used steel the past few years, mostly in a few different models from Spyderco, but also a small custom fixed blade. I finally used my new-ish m4 bailout to cut up cardboard for recycling and after cutting up enough cardboard to fill a 95 gallon bin, it still shaved hair with a bit of effort.
      As you said, It was like a completely different steel. Even more surprising since it's a steel I thought I had tried at its best.

    • @NeevesKnives
      @NeevesKnives  3 года назад

    I always catch grief for saying this but I really don't like s35vn. I'd take s30v any day, never had chipping issues that everyone talks about either. Hopefully s45vn turns out to be good

    • @NeevesKnives
      @NeevesKnives  3 года назад +1

      Yeah i agree, i like s35 but not as much as other steels like s30v

    • @jeffhicks8428
      @jeffhicks8428 9 месяцев назад

      the only reason they made s35vn is because s30v was too hard for knife makers to grind, so to make production easier and save money, they made a steel with less "edge retention" aka higher machinability. S45VN is basically S35VN version 2. It's what S35VN was supposed to be. Anyway in the grand scheme of things all of these steels are extremely similar to each other, other factors will matter MUCH more than the choice between any of these very similar steels mentioned here. Any one of them makes for an excellent all around knife steel, but most users would likely be better off with a straight chromium steel like XHP.

      It's hard to say since I've only tried this one but I would guess it's easier to heat treat so it will probably be more consistent across the board obviously different hrc will offer different results but still more consistent, but I believe it's more well rounded than m390, because where m390 falls short is it's toughness and it's probably a little easier to sharpen but imo m390 is easy to sharpen
