I truly love this dude, he’s humble and HELPFUL! Never a big head and helps me with my other channel.
Thanks Lex
That edge looked awesome! You are so awesome at teaching about sharpening. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. Great video once again Jerad!
Man! what a clear and concise explanation of the process you used. I love your vids. Thanks
👊
As usual, great looking edge. Need me some S45VN. Good job, sir! ✌️
The sharpening part was so peaceful
Man you definitely have some skill sharping!!
I've been carrying and using the para3 in S45VN for a lil bit now and I absolutely love the way it responds to quick touch-ups on venevs and stropping on diamonds! It takes very little work to bring back a scary sticky edge and it seems to hold it oddly well for how easily it sharpens!
Took mine up to a 1200 grit then strop on 4mic diamond emulsion and it freaking BITES!!! Holds it for a good long while too
Yeah I've done a few s45v now I actually have a sebenza in as well atm, it does sharpen well I'm noticing some small differences between companies and heat treatment
Yeah man same knife. I'm impressed how good the edge retention is compared to my s30v pm2. And agree on the ease of stropping!
@@Zaque-TVwhich do you prefer for everyday tasks?
@@NeevesKnives , salut de France✌ ! Le traitement thermique du cpm s 45 vn de spyderco est bon ?
Thx for the information!
You have mad skills and are a pleasure to learn from.
🙏
Im getting more and more curious how well I can freehand sharpen! Your a master
You should try it but dont get discouraged its like riding a bike kinda
@@NeevesKnives thanks for the encouragement! Appreciate you
Never seen someone go back and forth when sharpening. Are there pros and cons vs back and forth vs one way sharpening?
Nice video. I reckon when the base pm2's switch over to s45 I'll grab one of those. I've been curious about this steel nice getting an opinion on it
The s45 para 3 is baller
What kind of sharpening system r u using ?
My first Xm-18 is S45vn. Since then I only seen Hinderer release knives in 20cv. I'm guessing that's their new choice for steel.
Possibly
Hey are those the dragon or Phoenix stones? The substrate material looks a little different than the ones I got.
Dragon
Your video links to the ultra sharp stones. Would you recommend DMT, or the ultra sharp? I can't afford the dragon stones? Do I need to get all the stones grit or is there one or two I can start with I already have a strop.
Get the ultra sharp 300 and 600, if you want the 1200 you can get the 3 pack I link for around 50$ for the 2× 6 plates, the 3×8s are more expensive, make sure you also get a stone holder
Jared. Did hinderer switch to s45vn steel ? And thank you for saving that edge ! Those belt sanders don't get it .
Only seen the first batch in S45vn but it's been awhile. All I see from them are 20cv
I'm with ya. I prefer s30v over s35vn any day. Been wondering how this steel was. I need to get my hands on some.
Yeah im hoping to get more and more to see if theres large variables between companies and ht, ive noticed that about some steels it really depends on whos doing it and how well its done while other steels just seem to be similar across the board for the most part
@@NeevesKnives
Is this your only example of S45VN so far?
I absolutely love Hinderer knives, but I'd be really surprised if his HT is getting the most out of the steel, edge retention wise.
Spydercos S45VN has been very comparable to S30V in my experience, while sharpening a bit easier, which I've found to be the only real downside to S30V. Ive only tried it in that one model though.
M4 has been my most used steel the past few years, mostly in a few different models from Spyderco, but also a small custom fixed blade. I finally used my new-ish m4 bailout to cut up cardboard for recycling and after cutting up enough cardboard to fill a 95 gallon bin, it still shaved hair with a bit of effort.
As you said, It was like a completely different steel. Even more surprising since it's a steel I thought I had tried at its best.
@@CNYKnifeNerd yeah the difference between a steel being done to its best or just being done is like two completely different steels
Nice.......Thanks...Stay well
I always catch grief for saying this but I really don't like s35vn. I'd take s30v any day, never had chipping issues that everyone talks about either. Hopefully s45vn turns out to be good
Yeah i agree, i like s35 but not as much as other steels like s30v
the only reason they made s35vn is because s30v was too hard for knife makers to grind, so to make production easier and save money, they made a steel with less "edge retention" aka higher machinability. S45VN is basically S35VN version 2. It's what S35VN was supposed to be. Anyway in the grand scheme of things all of these steels are extremely similar to each other, other factors will matter MUCH more than the choice between any of these very similar steels mentioned here. Any one of them makes for an excellent all around knife steel, but most users would likely be better off with a straight chromium steel like XHP.
Is there any way I can send my my S45VN spyderco PM2 to you for sharpening? Do you have a website?
How do you like it? I’ve been contemplating getting one.
Here in 2022. Pardon my ignorance but now do you KNOW the sharpening angle?
🔥
Where do I go to get my knives sharpened by you?
You can email me or send a message on Instagram the links are in the description at the bottom
Do you only have it for sharpening or a carry review to get to know s45vn? I am curious to know if you liked it more the same or less than hinderers 20cv
Only for sharpening so its hard to say
@@NeevesKnives I’m very curious to how it performs. It’s still rare and not used a lot. Spartan uses it.
what sharping stones do you have?
I have dozens of Sharpening stones, I like to use Mt diamond plates and Venev resin bonded diamond stones the most
I didn't read the description my bad
How close is this to m390 qualitys
It's hard to say since I've only tried this one but I would guess it's easier to heat treat so it will probably be more consistent across the board obviously different hrc will offer different results but still more consistent, but I believe it's more well rounded than m390, because where m390 falls short is it's toughness and it's probably a little easier to sharpen but imo m390 is easy to sharpen
I struggle getting a burr with diamond stones on a kme with elmax steel and hes over here freehand getting a razor edge easy as pie....
I have a whole play list of sharpening tips and tricks, most of which transforms over to kme as well like following the grt pattern so have a better chance at getting a burr and knowing when
To be fair, I hate sharpening Elmax and I have 20+ years of sharpening experience.
@@CNYKnifeNerd really! Are you using diamond plates or diamond matrix style stones?
If anyone has a Kizer mini sheepdog thumbhole in black micarta for sale or knows of anyone who has it in stock lmk! Looked everywhere no luck
How bad do you want one? LOL
There's a retailer in Czechia that has 1 in stock currently. I've used them a couple times for a few knives I couldn't find anywhere and they were great, but shipping was like $45 I think. Shipping took like 8 days to USA.
www.premiove-noze.cz/en/folding-knives/kizer-sheepdog-mini-c01c-v3488c5-new-2021/?currency=USD
@@CNYKnifeNerd of corse the 1 out there for sale would be half of knife value for shipping. 🙄
use gloves
blows my mind the kind of dumb evidence free bullshit knife bros actually believe. newsflash genius, it's not the size of the abrasive that's the issue. It's user error. aka you. but it's comforting to make theories that lay the blame externally. Idk why but i find this so annoying it makes me rage. its not that hard. knife bros are just like amateur mythologists. all these dumb myths.
