I live in NJ where there are no new guns in stores to look at. I need to order online and hope for the best. If there is a problem with a gun, it's a big deal to send it back for an exchange. I have fixed many issues with new firearms myself. Just to avoid the hassle of sending it back. I was almost ready to buy a Apex-a1. Now I've got to think about it.
Bought my APX A1 back in 2022 when it was first released. I had the same problem. Bought mine from Scheels online and picked it up a few days later. While inspecting it at the gun counter, I noticed how bad the coating on the entire slide looked. I told the sales person about it and he said it was their new Aqua Tech Shield surface coating and that was the way it was supposed to look. It reminded me of old worn out coils from and old stove. It looked horrible. The sales person brought out 2 more A1s from the back and the slides all looked the same. They all looked rusted and worn out. The sales person said that's the way they are made. I went ahead and brought the gun home and the 1st time I took it to the range, I continuously had failure to feed problems and ejection issues. I then noticed a horrible scratching noise coming from the slide every time I racked it back. It took a while, but I figured out it was coming from the guide-rod/spring. I think it was bent and not working properly. I replaced it with a 20lbs guide-rod/spring from Galloway Precession and it fixed the problem. However, the coating on the slide was so bad I had a local gun shop cerakote the slide and it was a major improvement. From what I can find, Beretta had a quality control issue when they 1st released this weapon. I bought an APX A1 compact back in April 2024 and it is flawless. Good luck with yours.
Wow! I’m kind of a Beretta fan boy (mostly older Italian police turn ins) and I don’t blame you for not wanting to buy another Beretta. I’ve seen several videos with crappy finish on the A1. Beretta should be ashamed of themselves!
Had the same problem with Berretta . Had a Berretta apx centurion that malfunctioned damaged the gun.Sent the gun to Beretta May 18 2022 still waiting to resolve the problem. Beretta wants to replace the gun with a APX A1 don’t know if I want to deal with it again.
Just looked at the back of my slide is peeling. Bought from Rk guns and shipped my FFL. Also trying to remove the slide I noticed the finish is coming off the right slide release. Also the finish is coming off on the striker release button. Yes the slide was coated in lots of oil. Still can’t depress the right side take own button.
I just purchased an APX A1 (the version that has a mounted Burris Fastfire optic) at Bass Pro Shops last week. It's the first gun I've ever bought from them, and the only reason I did this time was my normal dealer did not have any of the A1's in stock. All in all, it was a smooth process, a pleasant buying experience, and from all outward appearances, a really nice handgun. I agree about the trigger lock, I hadn't seen that before and thought it was a little odd they don't allow trigger testing (my regular store certainly does). I did carefully inspect the firearm prior to purchase, and there were no visible flaws, but you bring up a good point to always inspect before buying since all sales are final at most gun stores. I recall seeing another video where someone had the same flaking issue that your gun has, so I don't think yours is an isolated incident. I'll certainly be periodically checking the slide on my gun for any signs of flaking. Hopefully Beretta will remedy this for you in a timely fashion, because I'm sure they don't want negative publicity regarding the quality of their guns. You may want to phone their customer service and discuss your situation with a rep or supervisor. I'm sure you will post updates here on how well Baretta is handling your claim, I'll be sure to keep an eye out for them. Good luck!
Apparently since 2019 this is an ongoing issue with Beretta. The "protectant" coating has been flaking off on the Beretta apx carry subcompact model and nothing has been done from their part to fix the problem.
I have an A1 FS and while I don’t have any issues with the coating I also don’t like it as much as the coating on my first gen Centurion. Other than that I really like the gun. Good luck.
I know someone who bought a Beretta APX A1 Full Size from there recently and it jammed on him, they sent it back to the manufacturer recently came back and still was jamming SMH.
I bought a gun at Cabelas and they opened the case and told me to check it out before we started the paperwork, I just got my APX A1 at Bass Pro ship to store and after all was said and final they brought the case first time fully wrapped in red tape. I said "What the hell?" And the guy actually said, "What? You don't think it's in there?" I cut it open on the counter before walking under his protest. I think I'm done with them.
I just bought one yesterday no paint flaking but it is a shitty job either junk in the paint or wasn’t cleaned well before painting! Probably redo it myself at some point
I thought so too until I watched this video. Now that I know how to do it, disassembly is super easy and takes seconds to do. ruclips.net/video/BPjprICuBRs/видео.htmlsi=8q-p-lewPJzobTCB

bummer....i pick mine up next week from range USA. Hope you get yours back looking perfect and I hope I don't get a pile of shit!
Apx a1 comes in drenched in oil, and take 400-500 rd trigger smooth out.

I ve got 2 of the apx a1 full sz. Both shoot great. No finish problems. One doesnt open after the last round sometimes.
I never had an issue with the finish. But I have with light primer strikes. However, it's with reloads. But when it shoots, it shoots straight.

Update? Did Beretta fix it?
I seen one gun tuber have the whole finish not done on one side of the gun

cabelas doesn't do that with gun lock

I thought about just having my slide refinished but I wanted to let Beretta know about it.
I just tried to remove the slide what a terrible process, took hours. Hate his gun already. No Manuel.

I just order the same gun from cabelas. When it comes in ill be sure to check.
Make sure you go over everything when you get to the store! Cannot express this enough!
I’m sure Beretta will make it right. Maybe see if they’ll throw in a few mags.
The bass pro in Port St. Lucie is awful, dim, unfriendly. Can’t feel trigger.
lol what a coincidence i drive by that bass pro on my way home from work every day, went there once
