Everyone in the Portokalos family worries about Toula (Nia Vardalos). Still unmarried at 30 years old, she works at Dancing Zorba's, the Greek restaurant owned by her parents, Gus (Michael Constantine) and Maria (Lainie Kazan). After taking a job at her aunt's travel agency, she falls in love with Ian Miller (John Corbett), a teacher who is tall, handsome and definitely not Greek. Toula isn't sure which will be more upsetting to her father, that Ian is a foreigner or that he's a vegetarian.

We love all 3 of the movies, but this is our favorite. The wedding scene portraying relationships at 3 different stages, young love, together for some time, and together for a lifetime, always brings tears to our eyes.
As a Greek I proudly say I LOVE this film and the trilogy.
I'm not Greek but I do love this trilogy. My dad's side is Polish-Italian and my Mom's side comes from most of the British Islands as well as some of the Viking lands.
So is my fiancee. We love the movies. Mom - not so much 😊
It’s the smaller moments for me like Mana Yia Yia hitting Gus and his brother over the head with the service book like they were naughty little kids, Angelo’s parents and sister immediately accepting his boyfriend, and the bow on the Windex that Gus gives Paris at the end. 😀
This is such a great sequel and sometimes I prefer watching it over the original. The actress for Paris looks like such a good mix between Toula and Ian's actors. I love that Mana-Yia Yia gets a lot more screen time in this movie and she steals every scene she's in. In case anyone was curious, it is common for Greek widows to wear all black for the rest of their lives. It's also not unheard of for them to live a long time like in this movie. My family tells me stories about my Papou's mother who lived to be 98 and she wore black for decades after her husband died.
My favorite character has always been Thea Voula though. I love her personality and she looks so much like my aunt. I also think they did a great job handling Angelo's boyfriend scene. It just plays through like any other relationship reveal would. No big gestures, no fuss or pressure to conform. To me that shows a level of acceptance that we should all hope to strive for.
Also a fun little fact is that Nia Vardalos waited so long to write the sequel because she wanted the real life experience of raising a family to make the script as genuine as possible.

i saw this years ago but only remember the daughter in it. can’t wait to see the new one coming out. Loved the wedding dance at the end, just stunning.

I love the entire trilogy so much. I still remember watching the very first one in 2002 with my mom. These films bring me so much joy and nostalgia! 😊
John Stamos and Rita Wilson are actually Greek. They've incorporated that heritage into their careers as I distinctly remember Uncle Jesse talking about being Greek on Full House back in the day and Rita has recorded some music in Greek and has producer credits on this movie and the first movie.
Also beyond thrilled that you instantly recognized the actor playing the brother from Breaking Bad. That was exactly how i reacted in the theater 😭😂
Thia Voula is my favorite 😂
I loved all three movies and watch them often. They hit on all different levels of love during your life. The third one really hits spot with love and acceptance. Nia Vardalos (Tulu) is also great in another (Greek style) movie you might like "My Life In Ruins".

When they're making out in the car, I kind of wanted the line to be "I know you have a house to do that in" since they bought them the house for them as their wedding gift haha. Still I was so thrilled when they announced the sequel and I really enjoy it.

I cannot for the life of me recommend enough Legends Of The Fall it's an incredible underrated classic starring Brad Pitt and Anthony Hopkins absolutely amazing film.
