Something worth noting is that Ben stays on the field while spinning with a Parry Ex Counter, meaning as soon as you confirm that attack, you can quickly swap to another member to launch an attack / Ex Special while Ben keeps them occupied. Very helpful with, say, Coleda - she can easily get her Ex Special in and gets enough time to do a full combo with Ben for insane amounts of Stun (and Fire Damage).
Ben is such a slept on character. He does so much of everything - high damage, team support crit rate buff, burn proc, huge AOE, huge stun bar generation, damage soak, doesn't die easily and can cheese through certain boss attack strings that might be hard to dodge or assist counter due to multiple hits. The only issue is that he gains so much from being on point that you won't be using your DPS as often unless you're very good at switching him in and out and switch cancelling his long animations smartly.
Ben's kit just downright broken to my eyes. He got atk boost from his def, he can dispense shield to ppl that also gave buff, he got unique special act as option select for taking a hit in which no other could do. That Defender tag isn't a lie, he protected his friends proactively and reactively delete the foes so no harm coming to them.
Anytime a developer gives you a character that has a unique mechanic, it’s worth exploring them. Could be a quasi hint that says “hey- pay attention to this”
Ben is my go to no brainer character since he can also parry red flash attacks. Not only is he already incredibly tanky, but his playstyle revolving around not taking damage as a tank just sounded funny and broken to me.
everyone i've looked at gets invulnerability on their EX special animations, it just works extra well with Ben as his EX special gets supercharged when he gets hit while using it.
Every character in this game has a tutorial in the VR training that explains all about how each character works. You should be doing that for every character. You even get rewards for doing so.
My Ben is now at level 50, and I have increased his critical strike damage to 126.8%, when releasing skills in battle, it can even hit more than 100,000 damage at a time. so amazing
His class role completely makes sense now that I see this... future defenders could also probably parry with skills which works best at multiplayer situations and the fact that they are optimizing a future multiplayer mode in zzz.
Ever since i got him and randomly learned about the parrying tech first-hand, he became a massive cop-out for enemies and bosses alike, going as far as making the Dead End Butcher a complete joke. Hell, to even mention his signature Big Cylinder w-engine that only makes his dps that much more ludicrous. Note to self: Don't underestimate thiren agents.

His passives is literally so OP too. He gets attack from Def in general at 80% at max I believe. I’m getting a point I’m getting almost 3k attack cause of his passive

I feel the role defence class is really confusing to me(at least for now). I use my lv40 teams with single atk gear(cheap on the material XD) play all the way to shiyu 9(lv50). I feel I run out of dps before survivability. It took me 4min on each half even though I did not have much dps down time at all. Each character without any survival gears can take up to 3 hard hits is quite reasonable to me. Not to mention the shield is quite thin from ben, it is not like it can save you from one extra hard hit anyway(maybe the shield scale well with gears? IDK). The only situation that I think Ben is handy is when facing boss with more red attacks than gold attacks...which mean you frequenly need to dodge and intrept your combo. In other cases, I dont really see the need for a dedicate class to just take dmg...or maybe things would be different when reaching later content.
Usually the dedicated defense class offers great survivability but the true value comes from how they helped the team outside of their shield/heals and whatnot. Personally, I only use Ben alongside soldier 11 since both people benefited + Ben's 18% Crit Rate when attacking with shield is teamwide. As long as people can clear SD with minimal skill issue, all team options are welcomed lol
My guess? Probably the Disorder mechanic since technically the only thing to invest in is the Anomaly Mastery and Anomaly Proficiency Many Piper/Grace teams can put out 100k plus Disorder proc but again this is early days and the community haven't quite figure how anomaly works yet (or maybe they're already done and I'm just late)
Have you finished build him? I'm wondering how thick his shield will be if i stack up defense on the build. Currently im still on low level and have a problem that his shield break so fast thus my dps losing the crit rate buff
Not finished but since his shields are scaled from Def and the only way to get his shield is through his EX Special, getting some energy Regen for him COULD be great for keeping 100% uptime (again this is just armchair speculation since I'm not finished building him). I'd treat Ben's shield as like a safety net for stray ranged attacks that hit you. You still need to be mindful of enemy attacks and patterns, unlike say a Zhongli shield where you're unbothered so long as his shield's up

90% of the time always go for Supports to go with your Attack units since the Defense unit in this game can be compensated by just getting good at the game. Ben (and probably Seth in 1.1) is a shielder that can also give lots of Daze and extra Crit Rate but Lucy's a whole ATK buffer for your DPS
I think Lucy is better option. Koleda as main attack with follow-up Ben, and Lucy with 3 biker pigs as passive dmg imput + occasional burst on her active skill with evasion attack that will give boost to her mini gang.
Ben 3rd string of attack when he start launching himself up with his weapon has a long invincibility frame, or i-frame for short, he take no dmg when he start flying so no dodging needed
It's so much fun parrying with him. Mucu more easier and much more rewarding when you succesfully parry. Combine him with koleda just 👍. Too bad he's defense character

If you have his signature Engine, he's gonna add 600% of his def to his attack after getting hit. His E became way more powerful.
and it's also a guaranteed crit as well, which is huge.
If you manage to get it up to 5*, that turns into 960%

I usually just find a corner and hold down his EX special button and let them all group up on me, and switch to Koleda.
You can switch mid attack, he will finish it up meanwhile you can dish it out as Koleda.
u can switch during his ex follow up attack, the attack will still go the full duration, if u time it right u can even get a parry assist

Sometimes when I'm chain attacking, i'll switch to ben and then at the end of the fight, he has the highest dmg out of the fight. Literally insane.

Pulling for zhu yuan but the game keep giving me ben everytime.
Ends up with Cinema 6 Ben, he really hit like a truck with full awaken upgrade.

He's closer to a Stun unit because his anomaly buildup is low, because of his fire element only coming from ex special and Ult

Swapping is the key. This way you can have two characters dishing out dmg at the same time.
In ZZZ, dodge and block won't work if the character's attack is still in motion and Ben is slow, that's his drawback.

You need to use the 2nd tap ex version of the skill, so after the counter hit, you press the skill button again.
