Everything you said i could not agree more. We all remember Busby babies and 1 minute of silence was performed in couple of matches afterwards on Red Star stadium due to a great respect of unforgettable generation United had. The Yugoslavian league at that time was so strong with teams like Dinamo Zagreb,Hajduk Split,Partizan Belgrade,FC Sarajevo and Zeleznicar....practically every game would be a derby. I'm a Manchester United fan, but it honestly pains me the way football has gone. You just won't get these amazing historic teams like Red Star, Ajax, PSV, Steaua etc do things like this again. The money and power is in a select few leagues with a select few teams and it won't change. It's a shame a great club like this will be forever in Qualifying and at best group stages.
I agreed with you. I am a Red Star fan all my life, we finally came to the group stage of UCL first time after 1992. and some day we'll be again a strong unbeatable team like we used to be I really hope so, despite the fact that money today plays a major role in football. By the way, congrats for beat us in Europe super cup 1991, you are also a great team with big history :)
Thank you. We also have a good history with our Serbs. Vidic is an absolute hero in Manchester. He'll never have to pay for a beer for the rest of his life here.
Just like you said, money took over football. Red Star, in the past 2 decades, had some phenomenal players.(You will probably remeber Vidic the most) But with the club running in debts, most of them were sold just to keep the club alive. Note that the prices of these players were 5-10x cheaper than than by far worse players from top 5 leagues. All thanks to the stupid war and the corrupted staff that came after it. Let me assure you that Red Star, if not for the stuff mentioned above, would have still been in the top of the European football to this very day. Not as good as the golden generation, but still. This year after a big upset over Red Bull Salzburg(Last years Europa League semi-finalist) we managed to make it to the CL group stages, which basically means +25 Mil € for the club. As a MU fan this probably seems like nothing to you, but for the Red Star, it should hopefully mean the start of financial stability and the end of selling best players for dirt cheap. After almost 3 decades, Red Star starts to get back to the top of the European football. There is still a long way to go, but one day, we will be back where we belong. Cheers.
I hope so, your great historic club needs to be back up there. Along with all the others from nations like Belgium and Sweden and Croatia. There needs to be a way that Real fucking Madrid don't win the top competition every fucking year.
Svet nikada do tada nije video takvu ekipu, zajednistvo, duh, individualce, tehniku, talenat, emocije,i nikada vise neće Idealizam više od fudbala ovaj fudbal je bio iznad sporta, umetnosti, nauke Zvezda iznad zivota...
Totally respect from Barcelona,s supporter. I get total shocked when I was a kid and Savicevic score the amazing goal in the final of 94. For one side, I feel very sad because my team was losing but for other side I felt the magical technical of the Yugoslavian players. After this I always put my eyes in who was played in Red Star team and follow the players who won in 91. Awhile 30 years, whatever I hear about Red Star team make me remember how big is the talent that was in Yugoslavia. Wishing appears new players like them. My best regards.
The 90s was the last breath of real football, before mass capitalism and globalization entered the game. Today most football teams dont have a identity. And clubs are ruled by asian or middle eastern billionaires who make it a company and not a club who represents a culture, city, region or country, football is losing its soul. I love the game, it still presents great moments, but its losing its sould more and more. Just look at the current "english" champions, barely a english player in the team, Arab owner, Spanish manager, no identity and replaces thanks to the money historical clubs like Benfica, Celtic, Red Star etc sure, on ocassion a team like Ajax can do a surprise like last year, but in the end, they usual fall and they have to sell later their best players to the so called "big clubs".
Hello my Egypt Brother i love your country. I was 2 time in Egypt and i fall i love with your country. I hope i can see you country again. Love & Respect from Serbia!
Prosinecki and Savicevic are two of the greatest tecnical players in the hole history of football. As an AC Milan ultra fan, remember very well the times (march 1991) in wich Prosinecki was to sign the contract for Ac Milan. I was thrilled and excited. The deal was to remain one year on loan in a second rated italian team and to join Ac Milan squad in 1992-93, season in wich italian teams could sign 6 foreigners. Sadly Ramon Mendeza at the last moment made surprisingly the deal with Prosinescki, and he went to Real Madrid. I was so upset. But, you know Berlusconi: he can not accept a defeat, even in player's market. In answer to the Mendoza challenge he made the jugoslavian double: Zvone Boban and Dejan Savicevic. What an absolute astonishing double purchase. 1992-93 Ac Milan was problably one of the best squad in football history: Van Basten, Gullit, Rijkaard, Papin, Boban, Savicevic, Costacurta, Albertini, Baresi, Maldini, Donadoni, Lentini. No words.
The best football video that I have ever seen. It makes me think of the Hungarian team of the 1950s. I was a witness to the Yugoslavian collapse issue as a 9 years old kid in 1990 (after Tito) but never knew that they had such a great football club. At the same time (1990-1996), we played some great football at school level. Respect from India.
I used to watch Red Star's European cup campaign on BBC "Sportsnight" in mid-week back then and they were an absolutely thrilling side to watch - so much flair and skill and passion.
Respect from Bulgaria. I've seen this video more than 100 times and this is one of the best teams ever. It wasn't fair what happened year before against Bayern.
The atmosphere on 16:06 onwards. Its a shame we will never see atmospheres like this again, stadiums controlled and led by the fans instead of multinational companies and organisations. Now they play pop music and people are more interested in their mobile phones than generating such an ambiance, not artificial like today's modern day arenas. As a Milan fan I have such great memories of Savicevic and Boban. Respect to the Red Star Belgrade side but it was sad to see it against the backdrop of what happened to Yugoslavia.

I remember this match when i was little. The Red Star was famous for savicevic and prosinecki and felt sad for OM, Waddle and Papin to lose on penalties. But this defeat helped the club to win the Champions league in 1993, just like when France lost to Bulgaria for the world cup 1994... to finally win it in 1998. In France, we say "the sun always come back by the east." which means happiness always come after sadness
For us, it was very important that Crvena Zvezda win since we knew that there would be no another time. The beautiful country YU torn apart. All these players were the last ambassadors of YU who were examples showing how to live together.
Yeah you are right! Red Star lost to Panathinaikos in Semifinals of UCL 1971 they robbed us. 1979 we lost a UEFA Cup final to Borrusia Mohengladbah. And finally 1991 we won UCL and Clubs World Cup!
Red Star Belgrade is one of my favourite respective teams ever in this world and that was the real Golden Generation of the European football of that time where this team won, have becoming more of a diminished history extremely so sadly but the legacy of this history goes on ever!!!LONG LIVE RED STAR BELGRADE!!!🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️
My God! They really were a phonomenal team! I can well remember watching that total demolition of that very good Rangers team. One of the few matches I've seen in my life where one team gives the opposition a total footballing lesson. It's so sad that the team couldn't have been kept together for longer after 1991, I'm sure they would have won CL a few more times
I was not born in this time, i was born in 2001. I train football myself and i cant manage to hold the tears when such a great football team falls apart and such a great country. FUCK YOU WAR! My dad talked alot about Red Star and the history of the club. I would have loved to see that with my own eyes..
When football had magic woven through it, Legendary teams like Red Star, Steau Bucharest, PSV, Ajax, Rangers, Grasshoppers, Dynamo Kiev, Dinamo Tibilsi, Anderlecht, saint Etienne, Hamburg, FC Cologne, those were the days, what a shame money took over the game, now you have a totally predictable game where champions are bought rather than built, sad state of affairs, glad I watched the game through the 80s and early 90s and experienced teams that were built by excellent players and coaches.......
Okay, Im a Hajduk Split fan but damn was that great team!!!! How big? Big enough that among most valuable trophy my club won is the last Yugoslav cup against ths team (1:0 Bokšić) Damn, Savičević, Pančev, Prosinečki, Mihajlović, Belodedić, so damn good. If you ask me, among all of those, Savičević was best player. Perhaps Prosinečki knew and could do more with a ball but he lacked phisicallity. I miss this football so much. I miss seing Steaua in CL, Ajax, not just playing occasional side role. I am SICK of Barcelona, Bayern, ManUtd, Chelsea and City, I am sick of PSG, and among all, I am sick of Real Madrid and Juventus. CHAMPIONS LEAGUE where there are ploaying 5 real champions, and others are 2nd, 3rd and 4th place in their home lagues, While real champions of some other countries are not even participating. Bullshit modern football
Sad to see that Hajduk Split isnt as strong as it was. Split was the power house from Croatia during Yugoslavia time. The matches btw Hajduk Split - Red Star was el Clasico during its time.
Pozdrav Igore, bio sam na finalu kupa tad, bilo je extra,Torcida je bila mozda u najboljem izdanju, secam se narandzastih fajerki ovo ono haha bilo super...inace Hajduk nam nikad nije lezao
I am also Red Star FC Fan.And we hear so many times how this when our club won Euro Cup wont happened again.I really think that's how looser think.I know that today we need much more money to match with Barca or Real or Bayern Munich. But Red Star have one of best fans in World, very big club history, tradition. We played(and won! )against all best clubs in Europe-Real,Barca,Livpool,Milan,Inter...)And look what is happening today in basket Euro league!Even Red Star BC don't have money like CSKA,Real.PAO,Fener-we are currently best club in league! So it can happened again in football also!Greetings from Belgrade
I was at that game when rangers played red star in Glasgow and red star absolutely killed us they had such an amazing team that went on to win the cup and it's such a shame that the war destroyed that great side But no one can take that European cup from them
James Golder the war took only the european chsmpions cup from 1991/92 and maybe this one from 1992/93.. but you‘re right, this from 90/91 can‘t take nobody from us!
Was 9 when red star won this. Was obsessed with footy but a different era. Hardly any games on tv. Old first division in England. No internet, no knowledge of foreign leagues. World cups were king
Love this team, wish the game was still like this. Yugoslavia had such talent back then, I feel like they had a great chance to win internationally. Croatia alone almost made it to the WC finals in 98
Am I the only one who thinks that the narrator has ideal voice not for sport but for war documentaries? Red Star was the last really great Balkan football team. With players entire from the country of the team (then united Yugoslavia) with the exception of Belodedici. I am not a chauvinist but seeing greek teams starting eleven nowadays without a single greek player occasionally is very weird. It's easier to buy a dozen of foreign players than invest in youth domestic talents. Respect to the dream team of Crvena Zvezda!
Yugoslavia in general was a great sport nation! Too bad they had that stupid war. Imagine if they were still united. They would beat teams like England for breakfast.
Serbia is predominantly Christian Orthodox where Croatians for example are mostly Catholic, so there could be subliminal message there or just someone from outside Serbia.
Im half serb and half croatian, but for me was only Yugoslavia important. This Red Star Team has given my soul peace for ever. Until the end of my life.
If the Yugoslavian league still existed it easy would be top 5 in Europe. With the big four: Crvena Zvezda, Dinamo Zagreb, Hajduk and Partizan as well great strong teams such as FK Vardar, Sarajevo and many others, the league would be far more interesting than Ligue 1, Bundesliga and possible more interesting than La Liga. The matches in Yugoslavian leauge would put El Clasico to shame, when derbies such as Dinamo - Zvezda, Hajduk - Zvezda, dinamo - Hajduk, partizan - zvezda where playing. When those matches play the whole Balkan well europe takes a breath.
The basketball has made an Adriatic league, I don't know why Football hasn't made one similar. 18 team league made from Bosnia, Croatia, Serbia & Montenegro. That would be one hell of a league
@@tonig3373 can't happen because of the fans. Every year on at least half the games that Hajduk and Dinamo play they chant "Kill the Serbs", here in Belgrade we don't chant for killing of Croats and other people from Ex-Yugoslavia as often but our fans would still be very much against any cooperation with their clubs. In basketball Serbs are mostly dominant and Croatian nationalist fans don't even watch it, if they did probably Adriatic league wouldn't exist.
@Peter Kelner luck? you are talking about the club which beat Liverpool thrice, 2 of which on the same date 6/11/1973 and 2018. Speaking about two-legged European cup round of 16 in 1973, we have beaten them 2-1 in the first and 2-1 in the second, away leg which ended up being THE ONLY LIVERPOOL HOME LOSS IN 20th CENTURY IN EUROPEAN COMPETITIONS.
@@djolesmols Chill, it was just a Group stage game. Liverpool went on to win the Champions League, while Red Star got trashed in all the other games and finished last in the group.
@@workinginthewell3498 I wasnt trying to diminish Liverpool as you misinterpreted. On the contrary, I wanted to emphasize Red Star's greatness by pointing out historically striking and distinctive success (the only team that has beaten Liverpool at Anfield in European competitions in 20th century) against such a giant as Liverpool, hence highlighting Liverpool's magnitude.
@@djolesmols As a Liverpool fan it was good to see you in the champions league in 18/19 and 19/20, Red Star are a massive club and I hope they’re in the competition more regularly as they are actually a pot 4 that puts up a fight (usually in the home Belgrade games)
Just before Yugoslavia broke apart, the sports reached greatest heights. Its not just Red Star winning 1991 Champions cup, that same year and in 1992, Yugoslavia had European club champions in basketball, as well as world and european champions as national team. Also club chanpions in handball, and club and national world champions in waterpolo. The only at all popular club sport Yugoslavia wasnt a champion in was volleyball, simply because it wasnt popular here, but decade later and to this day, Serbia became a power house in world volleyball, both for men and women too. The amount of talent for sports here is just crazy. I honestly feel if people in Balkans seriously liked american football ro baseball, they would in 10 years beat USA national team, or India in cricket :P
If Yugoslavia was not broken up by civil war they could have easily won 1994 World Cup & maybe in 1998. What an amazing collection of players. The style of football was beautiful. The closest European team to Brazilian style of football. Dragan Stojković left Red Star and played for Marseille.
Also Euro 92', we went in Sweden and days before start they give us a ban, Denmark went instead of us cos they were 2nd in our group, Brian Laudrup was on holiday and didnt want to come and leave vacation nd he thought they wouldnt achive nothing but they won the damn thing, unbelivable story
Savicevic Prosinecki Jugovic technical abilities legend class and the team work was out of class with deadly fast counterattack. If this team stayed more or less same couple of years it would be dominant
One correction has to be made. Return game against Dresden, was not won by 1:2. It was registered 0:3 in favour of Red Star(1:2 was the result at the moment it happened). Reason was, Dresden fans threw rocks at Prosinecki while he was taking a corner kick. Idk why that was not explained, when it is a well known fact. This is just FYI.
Love to Red Star from Greece

Im from Serbia and huge fan of Man.Utd and Red Star

What a team! Just look at some of the players they had. I have only one word.... Respect!
Congratulations Red Star ♥️♥️, you are the best team in Serbia, this is a message from FC Steaua Bucharest, love you brother ♥️🇷🇴🇷🇸
Fc Steaua was also good
European
Prosinecki, what a great player! we were lucky to have him on loan at Portsmouth in 2001, and in just that one season he became a club legend.
Superstar team with only homegrown talent! Lots of love to Crvena Zvezda from an Orthodox Brother.
Aris Tsihlis luv to you too, brother of ours
I love crvena zvedza so much and ig winning the ch in 1991 was the greatest moment in football history
Love & respect from Egypt
Regards to my Egypt Brother. I am big red star supporters
No words.
Respect for milan!😍🙏❤️👏🙌
No words but it was the beginning of the end of the universal football and Milan AC also
My heart stopped for few seconds when Crvena Zvezda scored a second goal at home vs Bayern, true story ;)..what a game!
Love and respect to Red Star Belgrade from AC Milan ❤️
Thank you! Respect for ac milan! As a red star fan, I love ac milan so much and ac milan is my favourite team in italy and western europe!😍🙏❤️👏🙌
WE LOVE RED STAR !!!!!!!!!!!!!
charlie sheen but now they are weak and arsenal beat them in the europa league lol
Arsalan5 GT two games, one goal... Maybe we meet in knockout phase one more time before the final so we will see
Arslan, when ''your'' Arsenal become World and European champion - you can say something. OR Fener, Galatasary, Besiktas, Bursa... who are your clubs.
charlie skhjheen
You obviously forgot 1979 secong leg when Red Star beat Arsenal 2-1 aggregate :)
It was beutiful country and wonderful team. We hope that Red Star will soon find better time.
This was one of the best and most entertaining teams in the world at the time. Full of talent and heart.
Love Red Star. Was in Awe of the Yugoslavia squad at Italia 90. Idolised Dragan Stojkovic.
I have always loved footballers from former Yugoslavia. Something very special about them.

RED STAR Belgrade - FOREVER !
A wonderful story. Roy of the Rovers stuff. Red Star Belgrade / Cervena Zvenzda -- European Champions and World Champions.
Red Star will be for ever a legendary european team -i hope glory days come back-love from Greece
Respect to the Red Star Belgrade side but it was sad to see it against the backdrop of what happened to Yugoslavia.
red star fans are now 10 times crazier than then dude..i know this comment is 1y old but i had to reply

Flo Kunlin champions league in 1991
Yeah you are right! Red Star lost to Panathinaikos in Semifinals of UCL 1971 they robbed us. 1979 we lost a UEFA Cup final to Borrusia Mohengladbah. And finally 1991 we won UCL and Clubs World Cup!

Glad to see them back in the CL this season but they will never compare to this team
Well at least they are back, time has changed, they finish their quest long time ago.
True my bro

Gosh I was so young when I migrated from Macedonia but it was phenomenal when I was only about 8 years old but pancevs penalty i will never forget
That was just painful to know that war destroyed such a great team.....and more importantly destroyed football.
Awesome club
I'm sorry, I couldn't help but notice that you really like this club since I've seen a lot of your comments about it. May I ask where are you from?
Is that really your profile picture? You are very beautiful 💜

I’m a Nigerian who stumbled unto Red Star via Jonathan Wilson and I’ve been studying them. What a team.
Okay, Im a Hajduk Split fan but damn was that great team!!!! How big?
Big enough that among most valuable trophy my club won is the last Yugoslav cup against ths team (1:0 Bokšić)
Damn, Savičević, Pančev, Prosinečki, Mihajlović, Belodedić, so damn good.
CHAMPIONS LEAGUE where there are ploaying 5 real champions, and others are 2nd, 3rd and 4th place in their home lagues,
While real champions of some other countries are not even participating.

Me my dad and my uncle are from the balkan from Macedonija and i miss alot of players from red star /crveda zvezda who passed away
Love to Red Star from America!
That was a strong Rangers team and they ripped them apart.
Oh yes :)
In the apparent words of Walter smith when he scouted them for Souey at Rangers ahead of the tie ‘We’re fucked’
Former Yugoslavia great school of soccer!Love Red star and Serbians from Greece!
I love red star, respect from as roma!💛❤
I was at that game when rangers played red star in Glasgow and red star absolutely killed us they had such an amazing team that went on to win the cup and it's such a shame that the war destroyed that great side But no one can take that European cup from them
James Golder the war took only the european chsmpions cup from 1991/92 and maybe this one from 1992/93.. but you‘re right, this from 90/91 can‘t take nobody from us!
Born in Bosnia , survived the war, now in America and Red Star for life .
Was 9 when red star won this. Was obsessed with footy but a different era. Hardly any games on tv. Old first division in England. No internet, no knowledge of foreign leagues. World cups were king
Olympiakos and red star for ever
No team whic have to stay on road that team in any sport!
Thanks man!

Pitty that you didn't show first goal in Belgrade against Dresden....Prosinecki's free kick was spectacular

Hell..they just beat Liverpool in CL.
@@djolesmols
As a Liverpool fan it was good to see you in the champions league in 18/19 and 19/20, Red Star are a massive club and I hope they’re in the competition more regularly as they are actually a pot 4 that puts up a fight (usually in the home Belgrade games)
Nek se Marakani vrate slavni dani kad si Zvezdo bila iznad svih. Nek pobede tvoje nase duse lece, nek te sever povede u njih.........
Thank you Red Star ‘91

Even though we don’t like our neighbor on that day vs marselle i supported red star as a balkan team.
Fair enough
One correction has to be made. Return game against Dresden, was not won by 1:2. It was registered 0:3 in favour of Red Star(1:2 was the result at the moment it happened). Reason was, Dresden fans threw rocks at Prosinecki while he was taking a corner kick. Idk why that was not explained, when it is a well known fact. This is just FYI.
What a great video! Thanks
