Which of these huge key comics would you take if given the option? AF 15 CGC 2.0, Coverless Batman 1, Hulk 181 CGC 9.6 or Amazing Spider-man 300 CGC 9.9.
Which one do you think I'd pick?

AF15. All day, every day.
I actually thought this was a joke at first. AF 15 everyday 24/7
AF15
AF 15 for certain
Perhaps I am just grail over money on a dream book
Af 15 is my favorite book from the silver age to the present
While all are good books, I'm definitely going with AF #15 with batman #1 coming in 2nd.
Amazing fantasy #15. Spider-Man
AF 15, but if it had a cover I’d go Batman #1
Holy Cow Batman 1 everytime. To have first Joker appearance beats Spidey
Hey Ryan, another great/ interesting video ! Huge congrats on getting the Black Cat 50 back in your hands !! That book is definitely on my grail watch list !!
I would take a AF15 1.0 vs ASM anything.
AF 15 every time if bought at the right price. Hulk 181 has too many copies on census. ASM 300 only has 10 at 9.9. However, I predict more may be coming. Also a 10 is possible. To me, that presents a pricing/value risk that is too high for me. I don’t like coverless books. So that is out too.
Amazing Spider-Man 300 9.9
I’m an 90s comic guy
is this a joke? there are literally millions of copies of 300 out there
More like 271,000 estimated
250,000ish made
So probably 200,000 exist
Cover less Batman #1, no question. AF 15 is still an amazing book to own but not an absolute grail for me like a Batman #1, even a copy without a cover. I would even go so far as to make it my ultimate collector goal to find a loose authentic cover to marry with this copy, even if it would take years! In the meantime, I wouldn't get it graded until said cover would be found but I would print a very high quality reproduction cover and simply use it like a folio to envelope the book and then display inside a nice acrylic holder with a custom label.
From the list, I'd probably go AF 15 or bat 1, but I'd love an issue 3 of The Shadow from the 40s. The one where The Shadow is kind of looking down on a mob from behind a building.
I also agree with your logic, though. It's all about short-term vs. long-term goals - whether that's PC or investing.
Awesome video =)
AF 15 FTW!
But…
Is the ASM 300 9.9 really a 9.9? Really?
AF 15, then go for the 301 as the 300 is the most gaudy looking comic cover ever.
I would pick the AF #15. It's THE key book of the Silver Age and arguably the third most important book after Action 1 and TEC 27.
Af 15 for sure
Amazing Spider-man 300 in 9.9 for sure. It's one of my favorite covers, I would keep it.
I still want a AF 15... My holy grail! 1.0-1.5 would be in my wheel house... One day
I'm torn between ASM 300 and Batman 181
It's cgc, just send them your 9.8 and ask them to press it, they'll bump it for headlines
Coverless Batman #1
I’m sure that Jeff from Golden Age Guru once said that he used to own an ASM #300 CGC 9.9.
The difference between dealers and collectors. Collectors use heart, nostalgia and emotion to determine this answer, whereas every dealer uses a calculator. Any collector would want an AF 15, and probably has an ASM 300 or two. I think the original poster on you FB group was looking to feel out what most people would want to have in a collection or at least keep long term. Also, that 9.9 300 has a greater chance of dropping like a stone as the pop grows, the AF 15 much less.
They could have also asked would you rather 100 dollars or 1000 dollars, but that wasn't the question. If you sell your ASM 9.9 and buy the Batman 1, you want the Batman 1. If you're a business person, the titles don't matter.
I agree. Maybe a better way to phrase it to avoid vagueness is to set the value to say each is worth the same amount. Say $20,000. This would give you the true experiment of which book people truly want.
I disagree. Money is black and white, collectibles have lots of shades of grey. They bring history, emotions, etc into the conversation. That’s why the answers are all so different in the comment section and why it’s an interesting hypothetical to talk about.
I actually picked up ASM 300 when it came out, so I think everyone can figure out my answer.
You're speaking as a comic trader. People who want the 1st appearance of Spidey want to keep it.
I’m with you, Ryan. Give me one of ten over all the other choices.
I’ll even go one further and say I would choose a 9.8 newsstand ASM 300 over any of the other choices.
But that’s just me
Also, the sales numbers don't show if the book was a newsstand or direct? That makes a HUGE difference!!
Hulk 181
Reason:
1- if i cant afford at least a 5.0, i dont want it in my collection.
2- i personally see no additional value in a a slab over a 9.8 (so 9.9 & 10 are only worth 9.8 value to me)
But it was tough, because an AF15 is a book I always want.
You picked the most expensive book. What an interesting concept. You give this knowledge for free. J/k 😂😂😂
It’s really a ridiculous question! Pinto of Ferrari!
hulk 181 just like it
Amazing Spiderman 300 and Hulk 181 are fake first appearances.
Nuff said!
Great minds think alike 😅
You going to NYCC?
I agree with him. I would get the asm 300 cgc 9.9 then sell it and use that money to buy af 15 and either get a higher grade af15 or get af 15 cgc 2.0 and get some change .
Also i already have an asm 300 cgc 9.6 signed by Stan Lee and Todd McFarlane, so any other asm 300 i would trade/sell it for other comics o would want.
The pacific coast copy of ASM 28. 😎
Wow, that Black Cat is amazing but I thought you didn’t like that cover? Too grizzly if I recall. Maybe I am misremembering?
Lawbreakers Suspense Stories 11 is the gruesome one I don’t really have any interest in keeping.
The asm 300 in 9.9 would be the most rare of those books (in the grades u stipulated), yes?
Anyway, I still have 2 copies of amazing fantasy 15. One of those is 6.0, the other one is 8.0 no trimming and I was offered $100,000 for the 6.0 and I refused I’m not selling either one.. I still have my Batman 1 5.0 restored with trimming. I’m not getting rid of that either because I had a horrible experience selling my Superman 1 5.0 restored no trimming and yes you know about that I’m still devastated
You mentioned buying for value the other day and I couldn't remember what an amazing Spider-Man 300 9.9 was worth. I answered one of the other choices in real time until I heard you say the Spidey 300 was a 9.9 and then your pick it's ;ust not your opinion,, it's your knowledge, so then I of course would automatically go with spidey 300!!
Batman 1.
Hey Ryan, this is Bob and Connecticut. I will be at the comic con tomorrow in New York.. anyway who the hell would ever take amazing Spider-Man 300 that’s a total piece of garbage compared to any condition AF 15 even if it’s .5 restored, you would have to be on major drugs to take the Spider-Man 300.🤯🤯🤯
300
AF 15 or HULK 1?
AF15 easy
New stuff is garbage. Tons of it out there. AF 15 has a very limited amount for the amount of people that want it.
Not a hard choose at all
AAA FFF FIFTEEN
Bro is a flipper at heart
🐬
Anyone picking 9.9 300 over an AF 15 probably rode a short bus to school
There's no "right" way to collect or be in the comic, or really, any hobby but there's a wrong way...and a lame way....constantly referring to graded population reports and prices realized is effin lame. It's crap, unoriginal content. You're stat captured.
...my nose.
