Oh Dear sweet Des. You touched my heartstrings. I wish I could give you a great big hug. I’m an old lady of 64, who has never had kids. I don’t have young people in my life, and I love books and started watching you and Sara and Haley. It’s like you’re my kids now, and I love watching your lives evolve. Take care - you’re doing everything right. You will be just fine. Sending love and hugs your way.

GET A LANDLINE!! It’s sounds so outdated but I live somewhere with no connection to and it really helps you not feel alone and scared when the wifi goes out, you’ll still be able to make calls when the connection or wifi is bad!

      @sheramelton3583 Месяц назад +6

Yes! I also still have a landline because I live in a very rural area of Kentucky and cell phone service is not reliable. It really does help to have a landline and be able to call someone without worrying about the phone not working.

It was actually almost a Texas wide outage because the storm took out some tower in Houston. It came on for like 10 minutes and went out again but was back up by like 8 pm.

I felt this exact way when I moved to college. Trust me - feel the emotions, keep yourself busy, maybe start going to therapy, and explore your new area!! You can always go back home, but you won't have this moment ever again. Give it your all and then decide. It will get better

people you see in other moving vlogs might not have the support system you did at home, and it’s okay if that is a priority in your life!! even if it means texas doesn’t end up working out for you. you’re trying something new and that takes so much courage but at the end of the day, you can only know what works for you by trying new things and figuring out what doesn’t work!
I’m positive it will get better but there is no shame in missing a place you felt safe. people spend their whole lives looking for a solid support system it so valuable!
rooting for you! thanks for sharing this journey ❤

You should do whatever you feel passionate about and I promise it will always target the right people💜

Wanted to offer some encouragement: I moved to a new city during the pandemic and it was very isolating of an experience. What's helped me to finally settle in 4 years later is having somewhere to go as a "3rd place." I attend a free meet up each Saturday and other local events when I can, go to coffee shops and have even joined some book clubs that meet in person. Having a 3rd place to go to has really been a big change for me. But it takes TIME to find the right places and events that are the right fit for you. Hang in there!

I’m usually a silent viewer but your vulnerability about the loneliness and scariness of living away from everyone and everything you know had me crying with you. I haven’t lived in the same state as my family and friends in 4 years and I still have moments where the sadness and homesickness literally feels like it body slams me. As sad as it is it’s nice to know I’m not alone in that feeling and I’m not overreacting. You’re not alone either :) I struggle with horrible horrible anxiety too so I feel you Des! You’re doing a hard thing so remember to be kind to yourself!

I’m old as hell and had to move out when o was 17. But I didn’t have such a close family.
You’re absolutely breaking my heart when you cry because you’re similar age to my son.
And yes, being open helps. It shows people that yes you’re very successful but at the same time you’re going through the motions we all do. I’m glad you kept it in. I think you should always be transparent with your audience. If all we saw was you at your best then that kinda comes unattainable for everyone else.
You’re okay. You’ll be okay and it will take time but please give yourself some grace. You’re doing all you can do but grace is most definitely a needed.

Sorry to see you're having a tough time with moving. As someone who's moved to three different cities as an adult since finishing my undergraduate degree, and lived in 5 total since leaving for college, here's a few pieces of advice:
    1. You're so lucky to have family you want to go home to. Not all of us could stand living with our family for a week, let alone long-term.
    2. Be pro-active about finding places where you can meet new people and there's an activity so you don't have to worry about the small talk as much. Find a walking or running group that you can do a few times a week, and if nothing else, it'll get you out into different parts of a new city and hopefully help you meet some friends to make it feel less lonely. Found family has made all the difference for me when moving.
    3. I don't think I've ever felt wholly comfortable in a new city in less than a year. Be patient with yourself and try your best to be okay with feeling a bit lost at times. Lean on your partner to help you through it as you can.
You're doing great so far! Just give it time and you'll love living on your own, plus you can always go back and visit family :)

Don’t worry about others who criticize you for being open about your feelings and anxieties. You help so many people by sharing what you are going through. There is nothing wrong with being open, and people who disagree have no place here. I moved away from home myself at the beginning of this year. I moved to a city where i know no one, and over time ive grown very lonely. I relate to what you said about how ur used to waking into a home full of people. It’s one of those things you don’t realize how much it means until you’re away from it. But don’t worry! You are not totally alone, and soon enough you will make friends in your new area! You got this Des!

Fun fact, HEB has an app and you can search for an item in the app. And it will tell you which aisle it is on. Cause there ain’t no way and HEB in Texas didn’t have Sriracha! 😅 kinda teasing, they could have totally been out or no actually have it.

About 8 months ago I moved across the country away from everything I've ever known. So I get how you're feeling, my family is also huge to me. It honestly took me about a month and a half to stop randomly crying because I was so scared and homesick. Routines are so helpful to make a place feel like home. But you can do this!! Give it some time and see how it feels, but there's honestly no shame in deciding that living that far away isn't for you if you come to that conclusion!

I moved from Texas to Maryland in January and my emotions hit a few weeks into the move as well! I just wanted to let you know that it does it get better but days are still hard and I still shed a few tears here in there when I have a rough day and my family isn't physically there to talk to but with that being said it is definitely worth "starting a new chapter" and learning myself more! when i moved to uni (it was only 2.5 hours away from home but the furthest i’ve ever been!) i struggled immensely with homesickness and loneliness. i cried so so so much and it can be so hard! everyone feels the emotions of moving away differently but it’s so so valid to feel emotional and overwhelmed because it is a big change but that’s okay. without change life would be so boring! whilst it’s so hard right now it will get easier even if it doesn’t feel like it and you’ll appreciate the time with your family so much more

Des! Your internet big sis, here. You're doing amazing, I promise you! Moving states is SO hard and this is the hardest part. It takes time to adjust. Your brain is used to one certain way of living and you're now creating new pathways with your new life changes. It's exhausting, it's hard, it's a time of grief amidst the excitement and the perfect time for anxiety to pop up. PS - anxiety can manifest when we don't sleep enough and let ourselves truly feel all of our grief in these times (I will listen to sad music when I feel a backup of sadness to let it all out and it helps with my anxiety). I learned that the hard way. These feelings are so real and so fair. Please give yourself ALL of the grace and know that just because transition/change is hard, does not mean it was the wrong decision. I've moved states twice and you grow so much through it. You'll find your community, you'll find your place in this new city, it just takes time. Hang in there. Mother yourself when you need to, get in sweats, and binge watch Netflix if you need a break. Get extra sleep (when your stomach is kinder to you). Take EXTRA EXTRA good care of yourself right now. Treat yourself in little ways every day, even if it's just one thing that brings you joy, like the perfect cup of coffee. We're cheering you on. You've got this!

Hey girl, how you are feeling is totally normal. I moved to Texas 3 years ago from the North East and the 1st year is definitely the hardest. The roads suck. There is no good Chinese food. We do not get Autumn at all. Christmas is like 75-80 degrees. It's boiling hot for most of the year. Most of all, you miss your family. That is so freaking overwhelming. But there are also so many positives to it. You live near a great city. Austin is so full of art and life. They have the best BBQ I have ever had in my life (called The Salt Lick). There are lots of plant shops in the area. The capital building is super interesting to walk through. 5th and 6th street (during the mornings, since the club scene at night is annoying) can be a ton of fun. There are lots of dog parks for Charlie if they are good with other dogs. There are a TON of book clubs and signings. You're doing all you can right now, and we are all so proud. But I promise, it will be hard but it will be okay.

When my husband and I moved to Japan during his military service one the best decisions I ever made was finding a therapist to help me navigate everything going on in my life. It was my first time living outside of my family home AND overseas. To say my anxiety was debilitating is an understatement and I was leaning hard into very unhealthy coping mechanisms like isolating myself, blowing every little inconvenience into a huge deal, and even go to the point I was making myself sick with stress/anxiety. Growing can be so difficult sometimes but never forget you're never alone in that experience. 💗

I had a tough time for months and I kept telling myself that the good memories with my parents are exactly that, they are memories and it is time to create new ones in my new life and something really good to do, is to plan a visit with your family in advance. Even if it is over a month or two or three later. It will give you peace of mind and something to look forward to. You should try your best to enjoy the company around you now.
Ps, I cried with you on this video 😂 I've been out of the house for about 7 or 8 years already, and I never miss it anymore but damn that was so sad to see. But you'll see how quickly things change. Just don't force it or overthink, take it day by day.. Sending big hugs!

wow destiny, i have been following for so long and I just want to say I see so much of myself in this video. i moved from Minnesota to California and I spent the entire first day sobbing in an empty apartment. Your videos were one of those things that grounded me. Now its been nearly a year and I cant believe how quickly I have made myself a new life here. Although I miss my family so much and I think about what I could be missing out on living closer to them I see now that it is equally as special that I get to create memories of my own here. San Fransico has become a city of my own and I miss Minnesota everyday but I love all of my new experiences here. Feelings don't typically come when they're convienet so know every hiccup or cry-ses is truly just your own way of going through such a major change. Take it day by day and I promise you'll slowly start to feel better. Sending all my love

Des i also did a big move recently away from my family to a new country. It is really comforting for me seeing someone go through the same things that I am right now. I really love how authentic and real you are in your videos. It is scary being vulnerable but I really appreciate your honesty and hearing your perspective, it’s comforting. Wishing you all this best on this new chapter in your life

This really reminded me of how I felt when I first moved away from home. It takes a while but you will eventually build a new life for yourself and then you have the excitement of visits and home visits to look forward to! Then after some time you can look back and see how far you’ve come and be proud!

You will be ok Destiny! When I moved away I had a similar sort of crash in my feelings as well. For a while you're in planning and adrenaline mode and there's all this anticipation and then once it's over and you're done and there is no more of that planning, packing, moving - you're bound to have a bit of a crash. I think you're doing great trying to establish a new normal for yourself!

You are so not alone in your feelings of isolation! Remember to give yourself some grace as transitions take some time especially a transition as large as you’re taking on! Try to take things one day at a time, and over time the familiarity will build. I also would recommend trying to find some local events in your new city that are relevant to your interests and try attending! Even if you don’t end up talking to anyone, sometimes it’s just nice to be around other people and learn more about your new community. Striking out on your own for the first time is such a huge step and you’re crushing it even in moments when you may not feel like it!

I totally feel you about being away from home and loved ones.
One of my greatest appreciations from going to college was moving away from home and learning how to be independent and navigate the anxieties of the world on your own.
It’s definitely scary and confusing but you will figure it out in time!
Try to find a community and get to know the area better! Find some stores that you love (like a Barnes ❤) and create a new, comfortable normal for you.

We are so grateful that you showed a vulnerable side to you and to the moving out experience for some. When I moved in with my boyfriend I was only about 15 minutes away from my mom's house. And I was very ready to move out and I had some ups and downs with my family I love them but I needed the space. When I was driving away from my mom's house to move into my boyfriend's house I started immediately sobbing uncontrollably in my car on the way there and it took me by surprise. New chapters like that and new phases of adulthood can be hard to adjust to as well as it can be hard to navigate the emotions from it. I felt so seen when you were having your vulnerable moment about moving and I'm sure others feel the same way. Thank you! Things will get easier and you will find your way i promise ☺️☺️☺️

Totally understand about the anxiety of leaving your dog, especially in a new place. Here’s what has helped me. I have a camera on my dog. I use Petcube, but I’ve heard Furbo is good too. That way I can look at them and see that they are ok. It makes me feel better. I also have the Fi gps collar on my dogs. They leave the house I get a notification on my phone. Also, I play a dog sound machine called Pawzzz by Yoga Sleep. It has two songs/sounds that are tested and proven to calm dogs. I know it’s a lot. 😂 but it eases my anxiety about leaving them at home. Hope that helps.

you're doing so good, be patient with yourself and let yourself adapt to your new place. focus on thinking of new opportunities moving can bring you. I moved from california to the east coast, and i'm so close with my family so it was hard. I recently found a group of friends in my new town and it's really helping to adjust. it gets easier but i always miss my family. plan trips to see them and them to see you, you're doing great!
