if you put the bead board on first and put the 1x4 on top of it you can do way less caulking. Also you don't have to cut your bead board to exact dimensions which can be difficult. Also the 1x4 holds the bead board up.
Agreed 100%. It also keeps alignment of the panels way easier. I'd also recommend a good primer to stop the pine bleed-through (two coats). I always use Zinsser BIN (shellac based). It also covers previously stained wood very well.
I'm late to the convo. It does makes since at first thought, but I also have a home built in 1930. Its easier to take one section down later doing it this way. and with a 1930s home. 1 will need to come down for "something".
This is a great video and it was very informative! Thank you so much for these videos as well as the blog! Y’all do a great job! These videos are great for people like me that have never done this kind of thing and really need an in depth visual example! Great job and thank you very much!
So talented! You two can do it "ALL!" SIMPLY AMAZING! Getting some " Honey Do's done before the baby is born! Hubby has the skill and Andrea you have the vision! Wonderful job you two! 🤗💕💓
Andrea, I love your style. Your home is so cozy and inviting. Your boy's room is awesome. Looking forward to how you design your nursery. Have a great summer..
“Caulk and paint make a carpenter what he ain’t!” ;) Just kidding, this looks absolutely fantastic! Great design taste and vision! I will be borrowing your design ideas for my home in the future for sure!
We did our entire upstairs wIth the 4x8 sheets to cover ugly popcorn ceiling. We used a lift that we could put the sheet on and cranked the wheel until it reached the ceiling. We nailed those to the ceiling and then we put the cross pieces on. We had marked pencil lines on the wall so we knew where the cross pieces needed to go and where to nail the sheets. We are now installing it downstairs. We love the outcome on our ceiling and your ceiling looks awesome too. We used the caulk too😏. Your home is lovely and your videos are great. I always enjoy watching them.
@@PineandProspectHome yes it does. We bought the assuming we could scrape it off but it had been painted and it wouldn’t budge. But it turned out to be a good thing because we love the new ceiling. I really like your board and batten. I may copy your style.
“Do your best and caulk the rest” 😂😂 I literally died laughing! We live in a 1940s home in SW Michigan and I TOTALLY know what you mean by that 😂 great job! I absolutely love it 🥰
I love that motto! It's what we do, but I didn't have the motto! Thank you for sharing this. It is a worthy project and adds such style. Well done! I really like the blinds as well .
That is beautiful. I may be wrong, but it seems to me, that it would be a lot easier & maybe save time, to put the beadboard up first, & then trim with all your 1x4s. Just wondering, because I love your idea, & would like to use it in a new construction my husband is doing. Is there a reason not to put beadboard up first, & then trim it off in sections with the 1x4s? It seems like it would save a lot of cutting time. Thanks for any input. It looks so awesome.
I just ran into your channel looking for videos on putting up breadboard on your celing. I am so glad that I did. The celing looks great and timeless. I love it! I am going to do the same to my master bedroom. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and great work! 👍
Great job! Looks good but i would recommend to install the bead board first and then the 1x over the bead board joints so you don't have to be so straight with your cuts.
WOW that looks amazing I soooo want to do this to my office ceiling I am sending this to the hubs to see if he IS up for it or do I try my best to paint it
Looks great! Getting ready to do the same thing in my daughter's house. However I plan on putting the panels up first and then covering the seams with the boards. Seems like it would be much easier and offer more support for the panels.
I'm not 100% sure which way I'll do it but I think the way demonstrated in this video could be a great method for those who may find it difficult to handle 4'x8' panels. A single person working alone may find it too difficult to lift the larger pieces while fastening. Still, possibly doing the smaller beadboard pieces BEFORE the battens/trim would be good so that any gaps are covered - I think it would be very forgiving. Loved the video.
Andrea, the job you two did is wonderful. I do have a question though. Are your walls and ceilings plaster and lathe or do you have studs in your walls and ceilings? Our home was built in 1919 and we unfortunately have plater and lathe. It's a mess when you start doing anything. I'm just curious. I would love to do this to all our ceilings. Thank you so much and God bless you with your new little addition to your family. You already have a beautiful start with your boys.
How confident is your husband that the brad nails will continue to hold up the beadboard over time without the glue. I am hoping to do something similar to this in my living room but have concerns about the weight of the product going up.
We did this! The previous owners had destroyed the ceiling of our 1961 ranch style house. They had made awful patch jobs after replacing light fixtures, left large holes in the ceiling after water damage was fixed and they were badly stained from smoking. So we decided to cover all the crap instead of matching mistakes. Yes, it’s a lot of work but really, it is so worth it! Houses in the 60’s didn’t have much for charm so this added what was needed. We did ours differently by using the entire sheet of bead board instead of square pieces. It’s so beautifully vintage! 😍
Andrea Sweetie, Apsultaly Gorgeous! Love The Whole Room! Thank U For Sharing! Love U Girl! Pray That Y'all Have A Very Blessed & Prosperous Week! 😇💖😘💋😁💖😇
My wife and I think this turned out very beautiful. We are doing the same design in our master bedroom. Your blog says 1 1/2 brad nails but when I clicked on the link , it takes me to 1-1/2 in. x 7/32 in. 18-Gauge Glue Collated Bright Steel Staples (3,000 per Box). is this what your husband used? And did he nail them into the studs of ceiling?
We might need to do something like this. We are buying a new construction and the living room has a sloped ceiling. Looking up it looks like the ceiling has waves in it and you can see the curves where the ceiling meets the wall. Our realtor said that’s normal, that’s it’s very hard to get those ceilings flat. Is it normal or sloppy work that was done?
the link for brad nails on your website is for staples, not brad nails. is it staples, or brad nails? consider the guy in the video is using a brad nailer then its brad nails.

Better to run strapping under it

Exactly what I was thinking!

Thanks that info ,I want to do this in a double car garage ceiling 👍
Between your superb taste and your husband’s high visual-spatial ability, the sky’s the limit in what you can accomplish.
Thank you so so much!
yes, it looks great in there!
Your home looks like a magazine! I always enjoy your videos. Have a Blessed day!

May I ask why not lay the bead board first and then cover the seams with the trim?
Your husband's talents and gifts are amazing. You 2 are a great team. One great lookin couple to boot !
I think the room looks bigger since you remodeled it. What a great space for the boys.
That room is wonderful. The blue is spot on, and your creativity is so fantastic. I

Oh that is a great idea, thank you! I love how it turned out as well and I am sure your ceilings look so much better than the popcorn!

Wow! A lot of work, but worth it. Beautiful ceiling!!
Really love the look of beadboard ceiling and board and batten walls. Thanks for sharing! ❣
I jus love your home and how you’ve made it your own.
Just finding you today. This is absolutely beautiful. Love everything about your design.
LOL. Owner of a 1928 Tudor Revival and “Do your best and caulk the rest!” Is our motto, too.

Thank you!
Thank you, I was going to attach the whole 4x8 to the ceiling, but I like the way you did it.
Oh I love this so much! I am wanting to put bead board on my kitchen ceiling and I hadn't thought to do the coffered look. It's so pretty!
Thank you, it just adds one more design element to your ceiling that adds even more character!
Turned out beautiful!
Both of you totally amaze me! You make a great team and your home is absolutely beautiful. I just love that ceiling.
It looks absolutely beautiful and has inspired me to do this in my kitchen!
Thank you for sharing this! Great job and so beautiful! Thank you both!
"Do your best and caulk the rest"... love it 😁

So beautiful! Great design idea! ❤
Thank you, it truly adds so much character!
It looks really good and thanks for explaining the process.
This room it so beautiful. Can I say that about a boys room? Lol. Great job!! ❤️
Yes of course you can! Thank you so much!
Beautiful, Andrea!!
The transformation is so good! Did he nail into the studs?
I never thought about doing that to a ceiling and now I really want to do it for our future home. I'm not very good with Math unfortunately.
Love how it turned out! what was he nailing in to and how did this play in to your design idea? love the high shelving too!
Absolutely beautiful! 💝
It looks beautiful!
How high is your ceiling? Wondering if this way will not make the ceiling look lower??? Thanks!
Great job! Looks good but i would recommend to install the bead board first and then the 1x over the bead board joints so you don't have to be so straight with your cuts.

The room is gorgeous! I love the white and navy. Isn't caulk the best?
so beautiful!

Thanks for sharing. It turned out so beautiful.💕
Just beautiful l love your home you have such great style 💕
Absolutely love it.
Thank you!!
Thanks for the post.
This is wonderful! What about painting boards outside after cutting to size?
Grrat work! Did he nail in the joists only ?
Absolutely beautiful! Super great job. I love your home 🥰
Definitely going to do this in my kitchen. Props to husband on those python biceps

Beautiful Andrea. Did you use trim paint for everything except the blue. Was there a color for the white?

Very nice, thanks!
Thank you so much!
I enjoyed your video I like your house but boy you're very lucky your husband's did a very nice job
I love all your videos ! do u have a video for installing board and batten? I think u mentioned it but I can't find it. :)
It’s absolutely beautiful ♥️
Thank you thank you that was so helpful!
how did you figure out the right places to nail the boards on the ceiling? did you ensure nail went into a joist?
Beautiful
Was this just brad nailed to the dry wall ceiling or did you mark out joists to nail into?
Hello, what gauge nails did you use for the 1x4s?
Great tutorial!!!!
Love it!
This is awesome!
This is perfect 💙

what kind of paint did you use on the bead board celling? Was it matte, sheen, semi gloss?
Another good saying for you…”It’s a piece of cake…and a ton of caulk”!
I'm curious why you wouldn't put up the beadboard first and then put up the trim over it period seems a lot easier that way
My only guess with a 4" wide board you're wasting surface area of the larger panels by simply covering it up.
Where he joined two boards together, what angle (or degree) did he cut them at?
AWESOME
What type of white paint?
May I ask you how much total you spent on this? I’m looking to do this in my home :)
Someone may have asked this, but do you think I could get away with using primed white 1x4s and avoid painting?
It’s ok to not use a respirator- if it’s water based paint it really is no big deal. Man card enabled!
No brad nail , use 2 inch sheet rock screws, brad nails the ceiling WILL sag over time
the link for brad nails on your website is for staples, not brad nails. is it staples, or brad nails? consider the guy in the video is using a brad nailer then its brad nails.
