Before you comment and criticize He was joking about the smoke alarm people. Geez try to look at the awesome craftsmanship instead of looking for something negative. Richard has a PHd in crown. 🤣🤣
Just another example of a craftsman doing what he does best. Stay healthy Rich. Us Tubers want you around for many many years to come Harleymike/chicago
Wow, to pre assemble an entire room's ceiling trim is a testament to your precise work and perfect measuring! You are so good, thank you for sharing your knowledge. Love your videos!
I dig that you pocket holed the frame completely, pocket holes and glue are the strongest joints possible, excellent video once again thank you for all you do!
Little trick I have my crews do I learned years back in the union. When gluing panels push the panel tight then pull away as to allow the glue to string then push it back up. Get a little air on there and better I think . And there's your dinner
Randy Carreiro - that’s a great tip. We did that experiment with contact cement and the adhesion is almost 6x stronger. (Measuring the pulling force it takes to separate the materials). Besides the final cured strength, the immediate adhesion is more than double.
I really enjoyed watching this video. It brought back memories when we did the ceilings of Irish pubs here in Stockholm. The only difference between both of your ceiling videos and ours is that we used stained & clear lacquered oak. So glad I found your channel. Stay safe and healthy.
Literally just finished replacing an accent ceiling took me about three months on my own working only on the weekends....best 200 a day I ever made on the side 🤣 add that to my 5 days no days off until the other day💰💰..shit crazy what you do bro for real
Your so right about the dewalt track saw. I just picked up the 60v kit and I love it. Going to do one of these projects in my master bedroom. Great video
Cool take on a sorta "coffered ceiling." I'd love to see your thought process on determining your spacing and layout based on what dimensions youre working with and the customers requests. Showing the install is great but coming up with a game plan is the other half of the battle. Thanks for keeping the videos coming 👍
I totally feel you on the traffic situation being so much better right now! I remember when i was a kid and my town of Santa Cruz not being so congested!!!
. Cant believe you guys put that material together on the floor and it stayed together with only 2 of you. That's professional and a bit of luck .. great video thanks btw it's cool to see you taking such good care of the material in the rain .. again very professional 👍🏻
I agree with Joey Dafish. Make sure to get the kit which comes with a storage bag. They have several lengths available. Short for cabinet installs (microwaves, etc.) and longer for standard ceilings. Compared to Zipwall brand, the Fastcap have detent pins that will get the pole length closer to your needed height and a squeeze handle to extend the rod the rest of the way and hold pressure where needed. We had a remediation company at our house and they used the ZipWall brand and the damn poles kept falling over as the twist lock mechanism was worn out and wouldn't keep pressure against the ceiling to hold the plastic tight. They were falling all over the living room and onto the tv. Very aggravating. Anyhow, I use the Third Hands and plastic to build on site paint booths, dust barriers (drywall sanding), etc. I do however like the ZipWall brand zippers. They have adhesive that you attach to the plastic and make it so you can gain entry to the protected area and then seal it back as needed.
I lol'd at the smoke detector comment and the fact you were able to say it without laughing... Make sure you leave the wire nuts off too. It kills the mice in the ceiling that way. haha
Small world Richard , that is the same as i did my ceiling , but i was lucky because the main beams were already there , so i just fitted the smaller ones then used hardboard to cover the ceiling with glue and staples then hid the staples with moulding , still not got a tracksaw still envious of yours lol, another excellent video Richard , keep them coming pal we appreciate the time and effort from over here in the UK .
This was a little sketchy doing it this way lifting this whole unit overhead but it worked out in the end! If the room would have been much bigger I don't think it would have worked out so well.
That is just about the same faux coffered ceiling I did last year. Didn’t have your tools or experience, so it took me a lot longer to do, but the look was similar. I used beadboard instead for the squares. For an 8 foot ceiling, it gives a nice look with only about a 1-1/4 inch dropdown.
I like this video one of my favorites..you might want to try a panel lifter, usually used to install sheet rock, will help out and allow you to be hands free.
Interesting choice to assemble the whole thing before nailing it to the ceiling! But it worked out. I would just think that would be riskier than nailing each piece to the ceiling one at a time.
I just discovered your channel, and I love watching how you work. Good quality contractors like yourself are hard to find, especially here in Fr. Worth. Keep 'em coming, man.
I like your plan of pocket and putting it up in one piece. Nice strong joints , just need couple of guys to stop by for coffee for a half hour 😀. Nobody uses these just cut the wires and push them up in the ceiling 😀🤣love it!
Looking at the smoke and carbon monoxide detector: "That's in the way. We'll just get rid of that. Nobody ever uses those things anyways." 😆🤣😆🤣😆🤣 I don't know anything about carpentry, but I thought that was funny!
Would I? Yes. I was just thinking about some shallow coffers and hardboard panels for my 12x21' ceiling. Was thinking deeper though. Stumbled onto this video unplanned, which was interesting.
That looked a little rickety with the 1x6 holding up that end haha. I learn a lot from your videos and apply some of your techniques. Keep them coming.
I’m not sure what was funnier. Your dry humor/ sarcastic joke or the comment section. Loved the video. That pine sure can flex, the way it was sagging. Of course I must say good job getting it all on camera. You sure do go the extra mile for you customers. Both paying and watching
Good thing u took that tent down those things will crumble on a windy day. I had one In my back yard and it got really windy over night and I woke up to it tangled in a ball and it took out my lower windows. It must of bin tumbling around my back yard all night lol.
Richard, this is just awesome! Your home gets better and better! I bet you will all enjoy being in that beautiful room for years to come and be proud of its craftsmanship! Coffered ceilings are just striking!
I was sweating when you were lifting the entire frame up against the ceiling. I was afraid that I would hear a big "crack " and the frame would come falling down. It looks really nice! Can't wait to see the rest!
I’m not trying to be a smart ass by any means, but wouldn’t it be so much easier to prime and paint everything in full lengths & sheets before hand (before you make your first cut) then measure, cut & install and just touch up the paint when done… It would save so much time in masking & prepping for paint on site... You do beautiful work by the way and I have picked up some tricks and tips from your videos... you are awesome at explaining what you are doing... Thanks for taking your time and putting up the videos
Thank you for all your videos; great work. I will plan on hanging tempered hardboard over plaster to make a accent wall. I will use staples as you mentioned in this video. What size would you recommend? Thank you
Great video. Beautiful craftsmanship as usual. If you were to get ahold of a drywall lift, I wonder if you could put that up with a few boards as braces on the lift.
Lovely. Frank aka carpenterone3 is the best, he had the bora table with a great portable tabletop. The Milwaukee nailer was much nice to listen to lol.
I love the look but I'm not keen on permanently gluing the panels to the sheetrock. I've been exploring alternatives such as using thicker panels that wouldn't need support in the field.
Great video What thickness tempered board do you use, when I try to use my dewalt 18ga narrow crown stapler they either ricochet or bend over before they penetrate the tempered board? Thank you
Looks really good and not too complicated. It looks elegant too. Love the pocket hole idea, it works wonders for furniture and cabinets. How many tubes of liquid nails did you guys use for the whole thing? Rock solid. Love y’all work
I want to do this to my house. I already removed all the pop corn ceiling and mudded it smooth. I should not have spend so much time mudding it smooth. But it looks nice, now.
Back to the DeWalt nailer? Mine has stopped setting nails into the material consistently. This project is looking good man. I gotta join the track saw club. I have a big butcher block island top coming up. It’s time.....
I'm a newbie DIYer...I'd like to see the pros/cons of when and/or why to use a tracsaw instead of a circular saw using either a homemade jig or Kreg trac fence.
This bloke is a good carpenter is wish all carpenters took this much pride in there work
Before you comment and criticize He was joking about the smoke alarm people. Geez try to look at the awesome craftsmanship instead of looking for something negative. Richard has a PHd in crown. 🤣🤣
Tom Van he’s right, I never use those things 😀
I figured he was joking lol. For a second I was like wait what?
He wasn't joking...look at it again.
Ah a joke about the joke isn’t as funny
David Babcock I did and you can clearly see the relocated smoke alarm
Just another example of a craftsman doing what he does best. Stay healthy Rich. Us Tubers want you around for many many years to come Harleymike/chicago
Yeah buddy, do your back exercises. Dont get hurt.
Wow, to pre assemble an entire room's ceiling trim is a testament to your precise work and perfect measuring! You are so good, thank you for sharing your knowledge. Love your videos!
Laszlo de Simon and trusting the framer! In my house the ceiling wouldn’t be square
What a great job on that ceiling, after watching al your videos I didn’t expect anything less.
Hope everyone here is doing well and staying healthy.
Lord. I wish I had just a fraction of your skill. Keep up with the video content. The world needs more people like you.
I dig that you pocket holed the frame completely, pocket holes and glue are the strongest joints possible, excellent video once again thank you for all you do!
“If you have a computer and you drive an hour to sit at another computer, I don’t know” perfectly executed common sense right there !!
Little trick I have my crews do I learned years back in the union.
When gluing panels push the panel tight then pull away as to allow the glue to string then push it back up.
Get a little air on there and better I think .

Yes. I would do this on my ceilings. I love it... hope there's a reveal on the end result.
Love that rip saw and the accordion contraption.
Literally just finished replacing an accent ceiling took me about three months on my own working only on the weekends....best 200 a day I ever made on the side 🤣 add that to my 5 days no days off until the other day💰💰..shit crazy what you do bro for real

Working from home/going to office - It's much easier to communicate in person, especially when there are tasks to be done and many people to consider.
Great work and great dry humor.

Qwwqq
You do such an amazing job as a trim carpenter and a RUclips’r
I do this style of high end work every day but I’m still learning a lot from you!
"If I could install crown molding in your house, from my house, I'd do it."
Right?🤣
Literally laughed out loud.
If i could install crown molding with my skills using you’re skills, I’d do it!”
Facts.
🤣😄😊✅👍👏
I totally feel you on the traffic situation being so much better right now! I remember when i was a kid and my town of Santa Cruz not being so congested!!!
Found your channel this morning. Been on Finish Carpentry binge! From these videos alone...you are all over the metroplex!! At least you stay busy!
. Cant believe you guys put that material together on the floor and it stayed together with only 2 of you. That's professional and a bit of luck .. great video thanks btw it's cool to see you taking such good care of the material in the rain .. again very professional 👍🏻
Love when customers try pointing out things before anything is finished.

He used your line in the follow up vid.
Really cool man, I never thought about installing ceiling panels like that. Great idea 💡👍
Every time I use my track saw I say the exact same thing! They are amazing
I just said the same thing about the track saw. It’s awesome. Best $500 I’ve spent.
Reminds me of that multi square accent wall in that dinning room wall.
I love it
I got the dewalt track saw , dont know why I didn't get it sooner, if you do trim or cabinets like I do this tool is a must have
This was a little sketchy doing it this way lifting this whole unit overhead but it worked out in the end!
If the room would have been much bigger I don't think it would have worked out so well.
You need to get some "FastCap 3rd hand poles." Woulda been those "2 ex guys u needed"👍
wondering how you would have done it otherwise. Since you covered up your pocket holes by lifting it in place.
So, would you have still pocket hole screwed but from the face side? After tacking the ceiling up?
Finish Carpentry TV I love u my guy!! Can’t wait for the next video!!
I think I might try this but I will probably use biscuits and assemble as I go and preparing and touch up as I go.
Great work, always enjoy watching your channel
Amazing precision building on the floor up. Would never have thought it is done this way
I like this video one of my favorites..you might want to try a panel lifter, usually used to install sheet rock, will help out and allow you to be hands free.
Good stuff, always trying new things. Keeps me hooked on your channel 😳 good job keep up the good work 👍👍
I recommend purchasing a couple Rockwell jawstands. They would come in real handy installing that finger jointed pine layout
Interesting choice to assemble the whole thing before nailing it to the ceiling! But it worked out. I would just think that would be riskier than nailing each piece to the ceiling one at a time.
“That was money well spent!” This was the exact same reaction I had the first time I used my track saw.
I so want a track saw!
I’ve learned a lot from your videos!!! A professional at work. Thanks
I just discovered your channel, and I love watching how you work. Good quality contractors like yourself are hard to find, especially here in Fr. Worth.
Keep 'em coming, man.
Great job as usual. Thanks for the video. A great project for these "stay at home" days. Thanks again!!!
Really great work and can't wait to see the finished product!
When you going to do another video about installing crown with mitered inside corners??
Tell you a story, I did that similar job, All By Myself, using a sheet rock jack. LoL love it . Im a Old Guy using my no money for help method.
Sheet rock jack is what I was thinking also. I set all the beams in my house, solo, using two Proctor wall jacks.
Can’t wait to see the finished product 🤓
I like your plan of pocket and putting it up in one piece. Nice strong joints , just need couple of guys to stop by for coffee for a half hour 😀. Nobody uses these just cut the wires and push them up in the ceiling 😀🤣love it!
Nice Job, I was holding my breath while you were putting up the main grid!
Nice work, Richard. A lot of details to work around and your build on this worked well.
I so wish u was in Naples Florida I just got a house n. Will love for u to work on it I love all your videos keep up the hard work
I'm doing this at the moment with polystyrene tiles in the squares in my hallway and landing. Looks well posh
Can't wait too see finished project.
Superb! Your dry wit crack me up
Looking at the smoke and carbon monoxide detector: "That's in the way. We'll just get rid of that. Nobody ever uses those things anyways." 😆🤣😆🤣😆🤣 I don't know anything about carpentry, but I thought that was funny!

Never stop learning 👍🏼
That looked a little rickety with the 1x6 holding up that end haha. I learn a lot from your videos and apply some of your techniques. Keep them coming.
That is way more work than what was needed with the whole pocket screw assembly.

Hell yes! Going to do it to mine next week. Thanks for the awesome idea
You are a magician, LOVE YOUR VIDEOS
Good job, keep up the good work ,can't wait for your next blog,,stay safe...
Lovely hopefully different colour for insets i recently did understairs with shaker doors and did them different colours on the inset looks amazing
So interesting to watch your video i am carpentery too it gave me a lot of idea good job
Love the work you do. Be looking forward to seeing it finished. Stay safe.
Good thing u took that tent down those things will crumble on a windy day. I had one In my back yard and it got really windy over night and I woke up to it tangled in a ball and it took out my lower windows. It must of bin tumbling around my back yard all night lol.
Did the same thing in the dining room at my house, it looks great!
Have done it and I loved it..old school style.
this fella is the reason why things fall down
Yes! finally a new video👍🏻
This was a great video, thank you so much. Did you use 1x6s for the perimeter and cross members? Do you have a link for the finished project?
Beautiful work man!
I thoroughly laughed out loud at the way you were sly about the smoke detector 😂
Loving that hack though... It looks so good!
Dope video!!! Much respect ✊🏽 to you and your crew! Nice video I learned a lot.
Very cool, looking forward to seeing the finished product.
Richard, this is just awesome! Your home gets better and better! I bet you will all enjoy being in that beautiful room for years to come and be proud of its craftsmanship! Coffered ceilings are just striking!

If you can find it, use 1/4" MDF instead of Masonite. I'm glad you installed it loose because it expands and contracts too much. Good work.
I’m not trying to be a smart ass by any means, but wouldn’t it be so much easier to prime and paint everything in full lengths & sheets before hand (before you make your first cut) then measure, cut & install and just touch up the paint when done… It would save so much time in masking & prepping for paint on site...

That intro had me 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂! Peace. Be safe. GREAT JOB.
He's BRILLIANT and a hard worker!!! I enjoy his vids! Richard what kind of camera do you use and apparently you do have a camera man??
I love the look but I'm not keen on permanently gluing the panels to the sheetrock. I've been exploring alternatives such as using thicker panels that wouldn't need support in the field.

@3:48 is this going to work? Yeah it'll work. Lol
This is pretty much how all my projects go. Love the videos. Keep em coming.
Nice work guys.
Looks beautiful great job!!
If you do that prefix on the floor again. Try a drywall ceiling lift to help lift it and hold it place while you fix in place. Just a suggestion.
Your a badass bro. Keep the videos coming 🙏🙏😎😎
Fastcap’s third hand tools on opposite corners would have helped a lot in raising it up to the ceiling
I'm a newbie DIYer...I'd like to see the pros/cons of when and/or why to use a tracsaw instead of a circular saw using either a homemade jig or Kreg trac fence.
Track saws make sense if you do this for a living. For diy, a clamping straight edge is great for breaking down sheet goods.
Thank You ! Excellent Training
