I spearfished Hawaii this past February. First time spearfishing. Stuck to 3 prong. But I would like to get a gun and this series has been great learning all the different options. Thanks Aaron!
Great video. You missed a small but crucial detail. When your palm is downwards, you are using smaller fine muscles on the front of your shoulders and when palms are up you are using the coarse back muscles of your back. Easier on your shoulders. Very easy to feel the difference if your bands are setup very short.
haha I'm a diver not a personal trainer, I just know some people prefer over, some prefer under. Guess depends on their background. But thanks for the info!
@@KeyWestWaterman I know very little compared to what you know. This is just a small detail some book author told me sometime ago. I never see people talk about it. Thought I’d point it out.
Very good explanation. When I started I had an Ocean Rhino. I could dry load it in the garage via hip, but it was a chore. When I got in the water I couldn't load it, no hard Earth beneath my feet and that little bit made a big difference. I then stumbled into chest loading and it made every bit of difference. The last bit of pulling on hip loading is with the weakest muscle group for me. Now I freedive with a Salvamar Hero 105 and chest loading is perfect. I think chest loading for me capitalizes on my better muscle areas.
Question: can you do a video with Madeleine and talk about how her guns are rigged differently (if it is) and how she loads. What tricks for women, weaker upper body strength.
Someone kinda answered this in a prev comment but on a dual band gun it looks like you always grab (what appears to be) the band farthest from the butt and pull it under the other band and load it on the shark fin closest to the shaft’s tip. Is that correct? I’m assuming it balances out the stretch a tiny bit?
Hi Aaron- hopefully you see this. Just got my new gun and the bands are so tight I cannot load it in the water and barely get it loaded on the boat. Should I load it and leave it for a while loaded to stretch the bands??
It should be easier to load in the water if you get the technique down. Are you chest loading? The bands will soften up a little but not a lot. You could get a tiny bit longer bands. Or a smaller diameter. I have a video later this week about a load assist which may help. If you go too much bigger or stretch the bands out a bunch you are sacrificing power and range.
My wife got me a banana gun 2.0 and i have no clue how to set the bands and wrap the line. Which band goes where? How do you wrap the line? And do you swap out the plastic coated line with something else?
watch the video he put out before this one. All about rigging. As far as bands.. On a two band gun, I load the furthest band from me first, through (under) the other band and onto the first tab (farthest from the trigger) and then the second farthest band to the nearest to me tab.
The videos this week should hopefully clear some of that up. The rigging video i posted a couple days ago shows how the line should lay on the BG. Just have to go down and back twice instead of once. I personally like dyneema but most like mono so we rig them with mono.
Hey Aaron, curious if any spear guns are made of Carbon Fiber. Maybe not since it's a float problem, but I would think they could cork the inside to make it more powerful and lighter. Just a thought.........and my silly space brain.
The laws prohibiting spear guns in the Bahamas are driven by the need to protect marine life from overfishing and to ensure safety from injury. You guys face any of these ideas in the keys?
Thanks for doing these beginner vids. Greatly appreciated. Wish I'd taken it up when I was younger but I'm here now
27 just started spearing man, never too late
Thanks man...my son and I love watching and learning from you. First time I ever comment on any RUclips stuff. Thank you!
Love seeing this there is so little content out there for newbies!

Key West is on my bucket list!!! Love watching your vids!! Keepem' coming!!! Thanks for the spear guns for dummies!! Lol

I thought I'd be first to comment, but the bots beat me! Great content Aaron!
You are the only non-bot comment so far 😂
It’s so annoying i literally block and report them every single video. And somehow more come back every time lol
As an old fkr, I didn’t realize that is going on…
Love your videos anyway brother!
Awesome video! Thank u Aaron
I have a 120 cm gun and I’m 5’10” never ever hip loaded lol always chest load
again, thank you
Another great edumacational video Aaron, ty!!
Unrecognizable without the beard❤
haha
❤ So very helpful as usual! ❤
Good stuff man.
A load assist helps great
Nice work. Grouper guy Boca Grande Florida
Great info

Great video idea! I will add it to the list!
Very much appreciated...!!
Hey. Know anything about gas powered or compressed air powered spear guns?
do you recommend loading one band first over the other? Meaning, top band all the way back or vice versa
I load the farthest away band to the close notch. But do it through the other bands. Hard to explain on here but will make a video on it.
@@KeyWestWaterman OK great info...Keith Barrel of Monks Brewery

that is correct, its not required to do it that way but I think the band lay along the gun a little cleaner.

@@KeyWestWaterman yes chest loading but its really tight...maybe the bands are too short. Ill call the manufacturer Thanks!!!
Aaron you need to write a spearfishing bible book!
I just like watching your channel.
Glad to hear that!
Does the band that’s on the bottom go to the rear notch or does it not matter?
I load the top band to the closest notch and then so on. But depends on the amount of bands and notches. Etc. but on most guns it doesn’t matter
Yeah I was wondering the same.
What % of commercial guys would you say use traditional guns vs rollers?
Every commercial diver I’ve ever worked with has shot traditional.

If you still can’t figure it out send me an email on the website and I’ll send you a more in depth video.
Do you never use pneumatic speargun ?
nope
LOL TNX 4 VID LOL
Why are there multiple bands ? I noticed one has 2, and the last one had 3 .
Depends on the gun. More bands more range. We have bluewater guns that shoot a lot further for open water spearing.

Aimright USA sells carbon fiber spear guns - rail guns and roller guns. ( 12 to 1300 hundred dollars.)
Great
Just here to feed the algorithm monsters.
👍✌
Soooo many bots.... Why does RUclips allow this
No idea

no you can use spearguns, slings what ever you please! (in florida)
