I've been crossing my float line in a figure 8 for a while now but the way you tied the off was good and I will be doing that from now on. Thanks mate great info as usual
Please keep these type of videos coming, I thought I had my gear dialed but this makes so much sense and is much better in the water. Thanks! My favorite channel on youtube.
Rope management Lesson 1: Ask any climber how to coil the ropes! Petzl has a few well illustrated videos out there. For longer lengths you can do it over your neck, and you will not need to support the weight of the rope as you coil it with your hand. You are basically folding the rope over and over vs putting kinks on it as result of coiling. Great video for those not familiar with climbing techniques!
Dude your awesome, tons of good advice and tricks! Also your editing is A+. (I’m part time a videographer). Been watching your videos since I started spearing a few years back. Greatly improved my diving/spearing. If your ever out near the big island of Hawaii I would be stoked to dive with you!
I freedive regularly but went spearfishing for the first time the other day. Many rookie errors were made haha including having a tangled mess of a rig. Saving this to watch again before my next mission!
i started watching your channel for the cinematic level underwater footage. I find myself not even caring about rig lines, as I do not spear fish. That said i still enjoyed the video because you make it entertaining. Good job Daniel.
I use the criss cross method, but put three half hitches at both ends and leave about 2-3 metres of line to the gun so when I jump in the water I can shoot straight away should there be a pelagic close. This way if spearing near rocks in swell, I can adjust the length of the rig cord to whatever length I want to keep the float closer while I am in the water without needing to detach the gun or float to do so. Not all guns have a good holding point for the line to wrap in Daniel's second example. I can use the half hitch method to wrap my rig line before I get picked up by the boat without using the gun. Its then instantly ready to go next dive.
Good stuff Daniel. I wish I had thought of this back in the Olden Days , I take pleasure in your work even though I am past being active in this great activity and hope you will continue to entertain and inform
First method allows you to load up quicker. I’ve lost count of the time mackerel were under me and my rig line was wrapped around my gun at the start of a drift.
Thanks twin Dan, made me laugh great editing, bet you had a giggle making this! Knew I'd seen this video and handy trick before while I was sat undoing knots in new line as the sunlight was fading. Never again. Now practicing in front of computer with headphone cable 👍
Hi Daniel Hope to find you well. When are you planning to come and dive in Portugal? Hope to see your next video and hopefully to dive with you here in Portugal.
I heard this in a movie once, but it’s appropriate. DanMann does for spearfishing what Stonehenge did for rocks. Btw, awesome videographer skills. I bet you sing and play and instrument as well.
Alright Dan.... we get it, you’re the best spearfishing channel on RUclips No no need to rub it in. 😂 awesome content as always! Also do you prefer that line over the foam filled ones?
You can always tell when its winter in the UK because your Editing advances phenominally! fantastic stuff simple yet effective techniques!
Used this method the other day Dan, I’m now telling everyone that will listen, absolute belter of a tip. More kit tip vids would be cool 👍🏻
Glad it helped Lee!

You have the best content and present it in a manner better than any channel I've come across. Thank you brother.🤙🏻
Cheers Bobby!
This was actually really useful. I’ve recently started spearfishing and I’ve been doing this since I started. Thanks a lot!!

no need for climbing techniques as were spearfishing ; )
Daniel mann has once again delivered
Amazing. I usually spend more time trying to untangle my rig line than fishing itself lol….you saved my life

Hey I’m on the big island and looking for someone to spearfish with! Let me know if you’re still on the island!
As usual a wealth of knowledge mr Mann 🤙🇦🇺🐟🧜🏻♀️
Consistently blown away by your editing keep it up!
AHAHAHAHA that face @3:18 really convinced "SEEEEEEE!" brilliant Daniel!

Thanks Dan! This helped a ton!
wow that gun rigging that you showed here, is so useful, that so wise omg...how come i havent thought about it...thanks!

The amount of times I thought about cutting my riffe float line cause the damn thing does nothing but tangle! life saver! cant wait to use these
That’s an expensive decision cutting one of those things 😂
Great stuff. Another simple but super effective tip 👌
Many thanks again Daniel for a very useful video.👍
Very useful technique. Thanks DM!😀
Thanks Daniel , always struggled with my rig line , tend to do the second method but love the first one you shared with us
First method allows you to load up quicker. I’ve lost count of the time mackerel were under me and my rig line was wrapped around my gun at the start of a drift.
Very well explained!
Thanx Daniel, rockclimbers do similar tricks and often over both knees (more rope to deal with) cheers
Love it Dan! Some very practical stuff there bro - you're saving dozens of headaches
#forthenoobers

Hope to find you well.
When are you planning to come and dive in Portugal?
Hope to see your next video and hopefully to dive with you here in Portugal.

Thanks Dann!! You da man 🤙
I'm not a spear fisher, but damn this is useful.
Bonza! Thanks mate!
I heard this in a movie once, but it’s appropriate. DanMann does for spearfishing what Stonehenge did for rocks. Btw, awesome videographer skills. I bet you sing and play and instrument as well.
I’m musically inept and can’t sing 😂
very useful. Cheers!
Nice Info.. thanks Idol..
Could you make a vudeo on the knots you use for the rigline or maybe direct to sucha video?
Hey Dan. Please could you do a video about SWB and diving alone. I really would like to hear your opinion and how you do it!
love the vids man keep it up I loved the into had a good laugh keep it up
Tbis is really helpful..
Taught me another trick! There ya go! Nice triceps mate lol!
No triceps on this small frame.
@@DanielMann haha less muscle = more oxygen efficient!
@@fishhunter348 definitely what I'm going for!
Crazy Ausi. Lol. Thank u. Hood stuff
thank you thank you
Keep up the good work!:)
how many times can i thumbs up this?! so good
Thank you Andrew!
Awesome!!
Good!
Awesome video! Why type of knot did you use from line to shark clip?
It’s actually just a rope splice rather than any knot.
Sick intro!
Thanks to my digital twin.
Can you make a video how you keep in freediving shape during the off-season?
I don’t do much really. Ride to work on a bicycle and try and have a decent diet.
Thanks heaps again Mr Mann👍🏽 General rule of thumb question? How long a float line do you use vs depth you are diving?
I’d say about 30% longer to allow for curve in the float line and current.
Thanks Daniel, I’ve been running a little longer and getting a few tangles and snags... cheers🤙🏽
Hi Daniel ... great stuff I constantly have tangled line !! umm what gun do you use??
Prior proper planning.. Thanks..
Спасибо!
Nice work Daniel!
PS: Your deckhand needs a lot of practice! 😂
Hello daniel, when we will see you in Greece actually in Chalkidiki? First foot in paliouri beach is perfect for spearfishing.
rummen Greek man finished all fishes in the Mediterranean stop fishing dude
Are This way is useful for a pole spear
Why sharkclip ? Normal inox carabiner isnt good?
Alright Dan....
we get it, you’re the best spearfishing channel on RUclips
No no need to rub it in.
😂 awesome content as always!
Also do you prefer that line over the foam filled ones?
It’s all subjective! I like the rope, simple, cheap and easy to fix in the field.
素晴らしい!
What do u prefer the float lines or the reel if you had to only have one love ur vids by the way keep them up
It’s like golf clubs, one for every situation. I use what’s best for what I’m doing at the time.
do you always attach your float to the gun?
Can you try diving here in the philippines? :)
@daniel Mann i'm new to spearfishing and learning alot with your videos. One question? What is the advantage of
connect the speargun into the float?
So you can’t lose it.
@@DanielMann it should apply only for open sea and low visibility waters? Or it's a best practice to apply in most cases?
HELLO DANIEL TU BIST DI BEST🌟
Thanks I'm sick of this happening in my dive bag when I'm out .
Here winter have been so bad that i have thinking to go dive (swim) BUT ist so cold water! Dx
Always making relatable content
Neither of us have triceps like Vin Diesel.
Hey Dan just noticed your video, what kind of tag line do you use and what diameter is it.🤙🏾
Just polypropylene four strand rope, around 5mm I think.
