Just received my aluminum scale PM2 today and was shocked to see how crappy the action was, I have many Spyderco’s and all of them are excellent. Took it apart aluminum shavings everywhere cleaned it up figured good to go NOPE, did this several times to no avail! Clicked on youtube and your video popped up thank you so much for the video had the exact same issue shaved down the pivot and bingo works mint! Very much appreciated!
To really smooth up the action on my PM2 i fine sanded/ polished the washers and use a dremel with small round wheel with polish and hit the blade on the pivot/washer contact area. It will open and shut like butter, i missed that drop from BHQ congrats
Nice job on finding the issue! Those who have used Spydercos (especially PM2 And Para 3) with the bushing pivot, Have encountered this from time to time. Burrs can be found on pivot, Stop pin, Standoffs, And the Normal production nested liners. Thanks for showing the internals! As a side note on action, Per Spyderco customer service, A stiff blade action is not "out of spec". Just a FYI
This is only my 2nd Spyderco, but that is good info to know. Thank you! I figured that some stiffness was normal, but this didn't seem right compared to my para 3, so I set out to investigate. Glad I found something and was able to improve the action!
Thank u so much. Got mine today and it was so hard to deploy and lock back up. Plus the compression lock is super sticky and rubbing somewhere. I'll take it apart see what's happening. But thank u. BTW I did contact Blade HQ and they said they would NOT do an exchange. Either refund my card or store credit. I was worried they'd sell out so I said forget it. Pretty lame on both ends $150 knife I have to take apart to work correctly. Spyderco is going downhill IMO
Great video! I'm not sure but i believe the pivot and body screws are titanium because they would not stick to a magnet on my green aluminum paramilitary 2.
I found out on bladhq's instagram page prior to when this knife was released. They are out of stock now, but I don't think they are limited production so I expect they will have more at some point. But, they are exclusive to bladehq so that is the only place where you'll find this aluminum scale version.
Its good that you can fix it your self but we need to encourage better craftmanship from the manufacturers. They put a price on it with a lower specs they must at least improve the quality.
You're not wrong, but I think this video is a combination of unrealistic expectations and not letting a knife break in before deciding the action is too stiff. No disrespect meant to the uploader, even he said this is only his second Spyderco. Edit: My bad. That pivot issue is bad, but also the exact reason I skipped this particular model despite my aluminum scaled pm2 being my favorite. It's Spyderco, so I'm sure they tested it extensively, but I just don't see this having the life-long reliability of the traditional configurations.
Also real quick I just wanted to say I think it's super lame of people who buy a bunch of the exclusive knives just to re sell them on Ebay for $100-150 above what the original price was. Let people who want to enjoy a new and exciting knife get a chance to buy one before u have us Dippin into our kids college fund just to buy one. Get a new hustle, that's not what the knife community is all about. Sorry Gearz and Gadgets to vent on ur video but just needed to get that off my mind. OK that's all. Thanx for the video it really helped mine as well
It is exclusive to Blade HQ. Here is the link: www.bladehq.com/item--Spyderco-Aluminum-Paramilitary-2-Knife-Blue--105235 I don't think they sell the scales by themselves though.
It's a beautiful knife , I love mine but honestly I can't even think of a worse handle material for a knife than aluminum . Really aluminum is just not a material I feel should ever be used for scales .

Glad to hear you were able to fix it up! Hopefully they can get the new design bugs worked out soon.

I will have to try that!!

That would be awesome if they are!
@@gearzgadgets5872 saves a little weight for sure. 3.25 ounces on a knife this big is pretty nutty
how do you find out about these exclusive spiderco drops?
also are they limited production? like there was the one batch and then no more?

Feel like selling that PM2 with the blue aluminum scales?
Thanks for the inquiry, but I'm hanging on to this one.
Would a blade swap work with these models?
As far as I know, the blade is the same as on the other versions.

I agree with you as I have seen a lot of the exclusive knives listed on eBay for way over the original price.
They should really start using the star pivots on every knife like they do in the para 3 lw.
I'm not familiar with those. I'll have to take one apart and see what it's like. Thanks!
Great video bro I love those blue scales can I get those somewhere?

It does get dings and scratches very easily! But it sure does look nice lol
