for the red album remix, we could’ve used “No Reply” or “I’ll Follow The Sun” from “Beatles For Sale” instead, again we only get “8 Days a Week”. i have no idea why “Beatles For Sale” gets dumped on so much, why it seems to be voted at the worst of thier early albums. i think it’s one thier best, if you ask me..
Honestly the album I’m most excited for to eventually get a remix
Me too.
while its not my favorite album, it is certainly a good one. im very much a fan of their cover of mr moonlight
I appreciate and enjoy your fine attention to detail, typography and paper stock is important, the little things add up and create the overall feeling of someone caring about the product. This feels like an average quality release with a premium price and some confusing/inconsistent issues.
Thank you for another excellent review. I totally understand that record companies need to make profit but when they cheap out on important details they’re shooting in their own feet. I’ll stick to my original ex-library copies of the first edition red & blue CDs.
I haven't been a fan of the demixing technology so far, but the new mix of I am the Walrus is simply amazing. I believe the last half of the track was only a mono mix, even on stereo versions. It's really intricate now
I missed the preview of it yesterday but it was the first song I headed for on either set. It sounds bloody marvellous.
Mean Mr Mayo says I Am The Walrus sucks
The new mix of I Am the Walrus is one of the highlights of the new mixes!

62-66 littered with some remarkable de/remixes. The exhumed kick drum on “I Want to Hold Your Hand” is a revelation.
I didn’t realize the additional songs were not added in chronologically. If i did i may not have bought these . Over here in America the outer sleeves were not laminated so that’s not a big deal to me. They should’ve thought of making this a tri-fold instead of cramming two albums in one opening.
The CD version is chronological
I heard and ill probably get it @@stevena9305
The LPs sound great especially the red coloured LPs.
The LPs are also nicely flat and packed in a sturdy box.
Only the weight of the blue coloured LPs is definitely not 180 grams.
I weighed all six LPs on my kitchen scale and came up with the following weights: (RED) LP1. 197, LP2.198, LP3.200 and then it comes: (BLUE) LP1.173, LP2.173 and LP3.155.
My kitchen scale won't be 100% accurate, but the blue coloured Elpees clearly weigh less than the red coloured LPs.
Fantastic review Paul, somewhat as I predicted it would be. I really wish there was someone in the Beatles camp that could be reminded that most important thing about them is that The Beatles respected us.
I actually like it that the first two records are the same sequence as the original albums.
And I also like that "Now And Then" is the first track on the 3rd LP. That is the most important track, sort of, due to the 2023 connection/release. Also better sound quality to have the track at the very beginning instead of at the very end.
I agree that the covers should have been done nicer, like a tip-on or laminated sleeve. Or, like you mentioned, a 3-panel layout.
I would have preferred Now and Then to be the last track on the vinyl version. It's the last word, the closing statement.
It would be a nice if the released a package with only the bonus discs.
Great appraisal, Paul. It's completely reasonable to question the attention to detail (or lack thereof). I purchased the Japanese SHM cd sets because they promise to be the best quality. The track sequence on the lps is a deal breaker.
where did you buy the Japanese éditions please? Thanks!
I think you're absolutely right, and I think the original plan was just to reissue Red and Blue with their classic tracklists but using remixes, with Now and Then/Love Me Do as a stand-alone single. At some point, someone at Apple or Universal said wait a minute, we can make more money by putting Now and Then on Blue and expanding both to 3 LP. So they did that, of course there was time to keep the expanded CDs chronological but they were not going to scrap a ton of vinyl and redo those, so they pressed up a 3rd LP.
I’m not sure what the logistics would be of adding to records that had already been pressed, if you still needed to get them out of the sleeves undamaged and wait for the new discs to be pressed, but I can believe that maybe they were at a stage before that where they test pressing were approved and stampers were made.
That said, I can’t envisage Now And Then ever really being a standalone single. Perhaps it was intended to be part of some other project that wasn’t ready on time.
Then why do the jackets have room for the third disk?
Do they? It's a normal gatefold which almost all normal gatefolds can hold two discs if you try it@@amysarg
But that's not industry standard thing to do so its odd in this case for sure@@amysarg
I bought both of these albums on CD on Friday. I am currently playing Disc 2 of the red album and listening to Michelle. Friday i played and really enjoyed the blue album which has the new single Now and Then which has gone to number one. I have wanted both of these albums for sometime now and glad i now have them in my collection. By the way, great video.
The labels of these records (fonts, layout, etc) are closely referencing original US pressings. Odd since most of the reissues Apple puts out closely reference original UK pressings.
£75 for a gatefold with 2 LPs wedged in one side.. not great.
I also that japaonese cd-SHM,because the sound is good and your set with two discs is perfectly. The price I found inside of my condition for buy,so is cool.About sound is clean and different how Ringo playing drum appear with high frequence in some songs.By the way Now And Then complete this special release, with sound brilhant. So is playing for sent this new remix now.
Ordered them for my dad for Christmas :)
Has anybody added their own new selections, not issued here? I added Thank You Girl as track 14.
Completely agree that some of the repackaging details on the new triple vinyl of the Red and Blue feels sloppy and careless inattention to detail. The coloured vinyl looks great but lack of third sleeve for third record is corporate bad optics. The absence of track chronology is irritating so guess I'll be buying the CD set as well at some point. Great review.
Thanks for this review and think based on this will buy the CD versions and seems real miss by Apple
For some reason my red set is heavier than my blue set. You can tell just by holding them. The non-chronological thing is very odd, I can't believe the extra tracks were an afterthought though. Giles Martin would've had little time to get all the relevant extra remixes done. Maybe spreading the cd track list onto six sides was problematic? No idea!
now you mention the gap between I am The walrus and Hello Goodbye on the label, they make it similar to the 1973 US version, even the SIDE TWO fonts have the same style as the US copy.
Cheers Paul, saved me ~£150, I'll stick with the CDs.... or similar ;-)
Btw, the "De Agostini" (2017 reissues with magazines sold in newsagents etc) both have the inserts, and are all nicely laminated (but with the oddly fonted record labels). Maybe there's a clue to the bizarre reasons for the vinyl track listings?
As someone who loves the Beatles and their music but doesn’t have a great deal of affection for the Red and Blue albums specifically I feel somewhat vindicated that these vinyl versions aren’t really worth it, at least not at this price point. I’ve enjoyed hearing the new mixes on streaming but I can already look at the sleeves on my older copies if I really want to.
I'm at once both impressed and really disappointed in these Giles Martin remixes. For one thing he has a thing for percussion so Ringo's drums are the most prominent I have ever heard on a Beatles record before. Too much so. For example on "You Can't Do That" Giles actually brought up the drum track and all but buried the cow bell, arguably the best part of the song. I couldn't believe it. The same on many other tracks. The best part of many of the remixes is the vocal blends. That I found a plus. But those heavy drums are annoying. To me at least. I appreciate his father more and more all the time. He did it right the first time.
I really, really don't like that style of shiny printed inner sleeve as - in my experience - the records arrive stuck/ plastered to them with static. Why more don't come with poly-lined sleeves I really don't know!
I like the look of the vinyl and the mixes generally sound great, but yeah, a lot of missed opportunities and stingy compromises. Surely a more deluxe trifold jacket, poly-lined sleeves, etc., would have been justified here. And the fact that this is meant to draw in newly minted fans, but is largely indistinguishable by those new fans from previously released product still for sale on the shelves and online is - frankly - stupid.
I bought the Red Album Vinyl, but there's a mistake. It was printed 2 times Day Tripper
I've never seen this question answered and it is a question I've had ever since childhood when I used to listen to The Red Album with the gatefold resting on my little knees; why is the boy in front of the gate while all the rest - including The Beatles themselves - are behind it? Why?
Inquiring minds still want to know! lol
I'm not bothered by the third discs and chronology question. After all, the red and blue albums were originally released on LPs and a lot of people (including me) know the tracklist order by heart, so preserving the original order and tack two bonus discs seem logical. Whereas the compilations never made sense on CD, as the red was particularly short and now are more full. I just think regarding the bonus tracks they should have kept the two double albums exactly as they were (including the innser sleeves feel and quality, God, it was such an important part of the original package !) and add up a third double album, like "Beatles+ 1962-2023" with the two bonus disc (and chronogically ordered, WTF did they do on the blue album ?!?)
No polyline sleeves how sad the vinyl with hairline scratch
By the CD then, because the vinyl is made from the same digital source
You can buy rounded HDPE inner sleeves and prevent those scratches from happening! They always come in handy
@@juangauna5706 no need to buy ,the damage are already done
@@SwingingCreeper I'm done, CD are better than buying vinyl without polyline, I'm allergic with pop and tick sound of vinyl cause by scratches
The matte jackets are an odd choice. The 2014 pressings had glossy jackets and all of the other remixes have had glossy jackets.
I expected a trifold design, disappointing.
Was this the limited edition boxed version or the two individual albums? Presume the latter as surely you would have shown the slipcase? Thanks all the same 😊
I agree with your thoughts. A question though, did these have hype stickers and if so, does the box set have individual hype stickers on each LP? .
Yes, they did. Forgot to show them, which was a mistake because they also confirm these are half-speed vinyl pressings which I should have mentioned...
As far as I know, all ties with Klein were severed before these were released and just as well.
Correct.
Agree with your thoughts, generally poorly executed, especially with that price tag.
I have the original uk red and blue coloured ones in mint condition and to me these are a downgrade.
Too many George Harrison tracks on the add on. Some of the choices to add seem random. They should have left as the classic double. ✌️
There is no such thing as “too many George Harrison songs.” George is now getting the attention he deserves.
❤💙
🥱
It's just the same.. Too expensive for that...
I don’t like using the term “cash grab” as no one is forced to buy these sets but they really cheaped out on these sets and are charging a premium surcharge for them. The jacket layout with 2 records in the same pocket and no poly lined sleeves is unforgivable. Putting the bonus songs on a third record with no regard to continuity is inexcusable and shows it to be a rush job. I would have waited a bit longer if they would have integrated the songs in proper order. Lastly, again the Red vinyl gets short changed in length compared to the Blue volume. They could have easily included a half dozen more songs to include more than 1 song from Beatles for Sale and some B sides like She’s a Woman, Rain, I’ll Get You, I Should Have Known Better and If I Fell.
I agree, particularly She's a Woman, which actually made the Billboard Top 10 I seem to recall.
It's a rip of
Strange and hugely overpriced. I don't get it.
Dreadful packaging.
What a mess. Profit triumphs once again over style, sense and respect. A legacy-tarnishing move.
Zzzzzz! Same as the original albums!!! They should have used a new cover for this cause the songs are remixed Let people know this isn’t the original mix
The records have to fitted. There is nothing sinister going on here. Remember when cassettes sometimes had a different order of play than the vinyl
