  • Today we are doing a full recap of the Stellantis EV (Electric Vehicle) day, which took place last Thursday July 8th, 2021. This event gave us a much deeper look at what exactly the French-Italian-American automaker has planned going forward in the next decade. They are investing $35.6 Billion Dollars (USD) within the next 5 years in this new technology for all 14 of their brands, from Dodge to Opel to Ram Trucks.
They have the goal of having 70% of European Sales and 40% of US sales being Low Emissions Vehicles by 2030, a far cry from 2021, where just 14% of EU sales and 4% of US sales are LEVs. Watch along as we cover the Brands, the Technology, the Ecosystems, and the Financials. ________________________________________________________________

Yeah, that's nice. Until they get charging stations out into rural areas, have long-range batteries and fast charging that can compete with gasoline, I don't see this stuff being a realistic takeover of all-electric. I think Hybrid should be the focus right now, as it allows the best of both worlds- convenience of gasoline fill-ups and existing infrastructure to alleviate range anxiety, while also decreasing emissions and consumption.
Also, I seriously worry about the second hand market when all/most new cars are electric, and then have major battery issues 10 years into their life and are totaled out by major repair costs. I hope people like ponying up to buy a full priced new car, that's even more disposable than what we have now...

From what I have read, for a Tesla S, a complete new battery change is between 13,000 - 14,000 dollars. Their warranty is 8 years and from 100k to unlimited miles.
So at 10 years or maybe 150k miles (possibly) plan on 14k for replacement batteries. What do you think a 10 yo well used EV will be worth, especially knowing you must have 14k, in cash, setting there. Unlike a fuel engine where if you maintain it 250k plus is not hard to achieve.

Yeah this is the achilles heel of EVs. Tesla did the right thing building their own infrastructure before the cars became a thing, it still has a ton of gaps in less frequented areas and that's where EVs can never compete against ICE.
In Germany they are forcing people to go electric but haven't even built a good network even though the country is so small. They want to ban ICE by iirc 2035 and the charging infrastructure in cities isn't even done yet and half of them is always broken. They expect people to charge at home which is impossible for the majority. The way they are going is stupid and contraproductive. If they actually gave synthetic fuels a chance too we could reach our goal quicker instead of forcing our way into a cleaner world no matter the consequences. EVs aren't the savior of humanity, we will never have enough resources to bvuild batteries to power our world. But hey let's put CO2 taxes on fuel since people can't evade to EVs anyway because they don't have 30k just lying around and a plug to charge their vehicles while not taxing EV owners.
Using ALL ALTERNATIVES is the key to success.

    • @railerswim
      @railerswim 2 года назад +6

@@Enforcer_WJDE completely agree about synthetic fuels and let’s be honest can the different electric grids in the world handle everyone having an EV? Does everyone going with an EV actually solve the climate crisis when all it will do is centralize the problem to where ever the electricity is produced so it will just make the problem worse?
Also farmers will not comply with EV mandates. They can’t. They have to run on diesel. If they have to wait for a vehicle to charge they lose money while they wait.

While Ford and Chevy ran around doing things like this, Dodge was the one giving zero fucks, building the Demon and shoving a Hellcat under any hood they an fit it in.

The electric technology will evolve to be ubiquitous so that styling and interior design features will differentiate the cars. Internally most EVs will resemble each other and likely depend upon supply sources from a relatively short list of high quality/low cost manufacturers. The manufacturers which can derive the lowest costs will gain market share and others are likely to go bankrupt. Tesla may have a cool autopilot, but likely the future highways will incorporate sensors and telemetrics to assist self driving vehicles, eg. traffic signs may broadcast the speed limit and traffic signs may export the "time-until-red", or "vehicle approaching intersection is not stopping". The standardization will lead to the commoditization of autonomous driving technology so that an inexpensive Kia will have will be as smart as a Tesla - or whatever are the premium brands. Look at the commoditization of internet and phone enabled home security systems as an example of how Tesla's tech might not matter anymore.

I wish Stellantis would give more info about what they have planned for Chrysler’s future. I LOVE my Chrysler and would happily buy another one in the next couple years; however I would like more options than a discontinued 200, a slightly outdated 300, or a minivan (although it does look great). I do wish that we could get some of the beautiful colors shown on the European makes! I'm so sick of having only dark red, white, black, and three intermediate shades of gray for most mid-size and larger vehicles from FCA USA. What the hell are they thinking in Auburn Hills? The pity is that the newest larger Jeep models are still stuck with the same damnable colors!

I think you're off by decades. If you think that even a significant fraction of the population will have gotten rid of their 15 year old cars in that short of a timeframe you don't know how the other half lives. It will take many decades for gas engines to phase out, as people finally give up their old gas powered beaters and reliable budget electric cars become a thing. Go to any low income housing area and tell me how many 20 year old cars you see. Tons of them. This isn't going to change, in 2040 you'll see tons of ~2021 year model gas powered cars driving around in those same areas.
Today's electric cars won't be tomorrow's cheap used cars either because they're mostly all high end vehicles requiring high end maintenance bills. In other words, a poverty stricken family won't be buying a 2021 Tesla in 2036 because even if they're still on the road the cost of repairing it will be too high for them to afford. Automakers like Hyundai and Ford seem to be stepping up to the plate and offering lower priced options, but reliability (especially long-term) remains to be seen.
You'll probably see most affluent and middle class families switch to electric within 20-25 years or so, but that's definitely not going to stop the low income and younger population from driving, modifying and enjoying their gas powered cars.

But, here is what I have concerns with for EVs. Remember the big storm last year that crippled power in the southern Midwest of the US? No solar power. No wind power. Limited power from coal plants cause we are too stupid to build any, or allow any. Just think of the cold, cold batteries in our wonderful EVs with the brownout hitting the charging stations. Can't wait!! Don't forget, the EPA won't allow a fire to keep warm because it will change the climate, so freeze to death with me in our great EV. Some of the rest of the time it will be not so bad - as long as the infrastructure is taxed out of us.

Once all of this tech bricks or becomes obsolete (and it will), thus rendering the vehicle a lawn ornament, then what? Drop another mortgage and just remain endlessly in debt? Not me ever. I choose to be financially responsible and maintain my '95 Concorde and '97 Ram to be reliable dailies. For as long as parts are available, I will proudly rock both. At the end of the day, there's not a thing on either that will become obsolete or I can't repair or have repaired. I'm still happy remaining debt free, having dirt cheap taxes, cheap (for SC) insurance.

This Tech is not at all Clean, When getting the Materials to make the batteries, it has a large impact on the environment to get these materials out of the earth and cause a lot of contamination.
Also What about the People who use their Vehicles for work and need constant power out of a Motor with only a 7 minute down time to refuel their Trucks.
I know there aren't that many charging stations in the the United States to serve the people with these trucks that use them for working or Commercial Work.
Unlike Gas Stations which is everywhere, the Electric Charging States are not available in all areas like Gas Stations.
Also look at the impact on the Aging Electrical Grid, I believe that system cannot keep up with the power demand, Already California has a Electrical Problem with many Brownouts in various place in that state.
For now, I will stick with my Gas Powered Cars and Trucks, Just to be safe.
    Just for Giggles,
What if there is a solar Mass Ejection from that Sun and wipe out power across the States or several States, how can you charge your car, you are totally Stranded and $hit out of luck if the power systems fail...
