But yes most acrobatic and pleasant Spider-Man btw I discussed about the fate of Peter Parker/Spider-Man too so if any spidey lovers love listening about other spidey fans' take, feel free to check it out and love you all for reading my comment 🥰😀

The reason why the original trilogy and TASM1 were memorable, was because of the producer LAURA ZISKIN
It was because of her and her husband (the screenwriter Alvin Sargent) that the movies had depth
She was the only one capable to tell AVI ARAD when to back off
Unfortunately, she died in 2011, during the production of TASM1
Without her, there was no one to stop Arad from destroying the franchise
    Spiderman was nothing without her

I liked the "friendly neighborhood" aspect of the character: he is always focus on protecting people during battles, he takes care of the child been bullied and tries to save as many people as possible. Sadly, the scripts are horrendous. Even Garfield admitted (during an Actors-on-actors interview with Amy Adams) that the script was the issue because it was focus on setting up a franchise instead of telling a good story.

A saga with truly potential and great actors. It's a shame that some of the comics they used, or wanted to use for these films weren't particularly good: the return of Peter's parents, their spy context, the clone saga, etc., and there's also Sony's attempt at associating everything to Oscorp (with Alchemax vibes), just so they could set up the Sinister Six, despite the fact that they killed off a founder member of the team (Electro), and they already used a non-related villain for the first film, as Lizard was not part of Sony's line-up. They ended up jumping the shark with their plots while flying to close to the sun.

  • @ianr.navahuber2195

10:24 I think the main problem WASN'T focusing on Peter's parents, but peter's kinda lack of interesting in researching them until the plot demanded him to put attention into that. It was kinda inconsistent the degree of attention they wanted to give oscorp as the "corner stone of this world", sometimes
For example, to be more consistent with his backstory and oscorp, Maybe say that after their deaths, peter focused too much on trying to get into oscorp to be like his parents. Maybe mentioning Harry Osborn as his best friend (feeling alone that harry has went away to study abroad), and during his childhood, became like protege and surrogate son to connors (wether connors' family from comics was adapted or not. if it did, peter would be like brother figure to connor's son, billy). MAYBE have that peter wasn't that close to uncle ben or aunt may. that sure, he loved them, but didn't feel like he connected to them.
It could be a methaphor for peter to focus too much on the past and future that he forgets the present.
OR I DON'T KNOW. Something that makes the story feel more organically connected to Oscorp rather that feeling like that side-quest that keeps popping up, interrupting the story, demanding to be attended

    • @parkerboy795

Maybe, but after these years, I've come to the conclusion that Peter's parents shouldn't be that emphasized in Peter's life. They can be government agents, spies, scientists, or whatever else, but it shouldn't have anything to do with Peter becoming Spider-Man or take up that much time in his current life. The Spectacular Spider-Man and the PS4 game handled it best in my opinion.

Doing a little research of my own, TASM 2 reception and box office cause such a negative impact to the franchise that Sony considered many ways to move forward, like:
    - They were offered by Marvel to sell, share or keep the IP (we all know they ended up sharing it)
    - In case of selling, Marvel offered 1.5 billion for the arachnid, whereas Sony counter offered with 5 billion (WHAT?! NOT EVEN STAR WARS WAS VALUED THAT HIGH)
    - Make TASM 3 as an animated film (who’s ideas was this?!)
    - Scrap the TASM franchise to return to Raimi’s Spider-Man 4 (meh)
    - Keeping the license and split TASM 3 AND 4 into two-parters, this could have been TASM: Sinister Six - Part 1 and Part 2 (the “third” entry) and TASM 4 - Part 1 and Part 2 (does that make any sense?!)
    - This one is my favorite and low-key the best plan: This supposed deal would allow Garfield’s Spider-Man to appear in Civil War, then in 2017 (year of Homecoming) release The Amazing Spider-Man 3 with two conditions: Marvel could recast anyone they wanted (maybe Harry, Felicia and others) but with the Russo Brothers in the director’s chair (due to the Captain America’s success). Two more MCU appearances before a The Amazing Spider-Man 4 and culminated with Spider-Verse with Tobey and Andrew (this kinda confirms the Multiverse idea from NHW was Sony’s idea). AFTER this, Marvel would have regain the rights in its entirety after paying Sony 2 billion.
    - The deal they’re working right now
All of this coming from watching interviews, the leaked emails from 2014, etc.

I understand after NWH people wants to act like they always liked Andrew in the role, but...no, they didnt, both Amazing movies flopped at the BO (for Spiderman standards), and fans HATED THEM.
Is the reason why the second movie is COMPLETELY different than the first (but managed to be just as hated for a whole different set of reasons).
I think the whole "gritty and realistic" aproach for a Spiderman movie was plain dumb, and while Andrew can pull the "charismatic handsome Romita Sr version" of Peter Parker...he didnt do that in Amazing 1, there he was basically a jerk who was trying way too hard to be sexy, your classic "bad boy" (this movie was designed as "Twilight for boys"), and in the second, while he was better, he still wasnt there...plus, he was 32, which was insane for someone who was playing a kid in highschool.
He was my favorite part of NWH, he got his redemption, time to move on, ASM3 is a completely idiotic idea, bringing Andrew back to play a completely different version of the character (Venom 3?) is one thing, but bringing back Marc Webb and the whole creative team behind the Amazing movies? heck to the no.
And btw, Sony didnt reboot the franchise because of the lukewarm reception Spiderman 3 got, they did it because those movies had become way too expensive to make...Spiderman 3 is still the most succesfull non-MCU Marvel movie ever, making over $900M, however, considering the insane budget that movie had, it barely broke even...by 2008, Sony had already hired a writer to work on a cheap reboot with a cheap director and with cheap actors, and they bet for the safest concept; copying The Dark Knight.

The graduation scene is the best example of how Amazing 2 misses the essence of Peter Parker. Peter was never cool or popular, whereas here he is portrayed as a rock star. He enters the ceremony late, kisses Gwen and receives applause from he entire graduating class. Nothing could be further from Stan Lee's Peter Parker.

I love Andrew’s portrayal of Spider-Man and his everyday hero aspect of his during the montage where he saved the kid from bullying and while he was sick. But the one scene where it showed the terrible writing of this movie that immediately kicked me out of enjoyment was when Peter did not immediately stop the Rhino’s truck when he had the chance. Instead choose to joke with him for a while (without doing anything), which lead to him crashing the truck into oncoming traffics and possibly killing a lot of people. Spider-Man can definitely joke with his enemy. But he has always done it as a distraction WHILE actively stopping them, not as a break away where he just watch them endangering innocent people.

I get a storng feeling we'll see Garfield again as peter. They can't keep dodging the "spider-man isn't a thing" error in the venom movies forever. Come to think of it, hardy and garfeild are kind of in the same boat of "we would like to be in BETTER MOVIES PLEASE!!" But enough about that for now. You could tell during the amazing spider-man series and "THAT" part in another movie (trying to be vauge) andrew absolutely ADORES the character wants to prove that he's worth revisiting.

Harry kind of has that, but that’s got more to do with signing on to Venom to begin with and his lack of traction at getting more substantial roles since The Revenant. Meanwhile, Garfield’s more popular than he’s ever been and is already on track to getting his second Oscar nomination - all while Holland is making a desperate attempt to get his first and Maguire nearly dropped acting all together until No Way Home (though we’ll see how Babylon turns out).

I grew up with the Nicholas Hammond Spider-Man (showing my age). I was SO happy to see what they were able to achieve with Tobey Maguire’s version. But when I saw Andrew Garfield’s take on the wall crawler, I knew in my bones that THIS was Spider-Man. He moved like you’d expect Spidey to. He quipped like you’d expect Spidey to. He was your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man in a way none of the others are, and he had the correct girlfriend. The movies were not as great as Raimi’s. They don’t have that Marvel Cinematic Universe branding to bolster them. But those movies had the best Spider-Man, probably the best representation of a teenager whose name is not Peter Parker and the best love interest, masterfully played by Emma Stone.
These movies represented the very definition of a missed opportunity but ‘Into the Spiderverse’ and ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ show that Sony are beginning to come to grips with how to make a Spider-Man movie. Perhaps one day, they might finish what they started in the ‘TASM’ series.

Webb’s Peter and Uncle Ben are shown to start having differences leading up to Bens death the moment Peter discovers his dads briefcase. They have back and forths and eventually it leads to the arguments. There’s tension grown organically and naturally, and Peters outburst makes sense. Getting powers, wondering why his parents left, being bullied, and getting chastised. All of it leading to his outburst made sense. Tobeys however had his Uncle Ben just catch his version of Peter at a bad time. That’s it, there wasn’t as much leading tension

BEFORE WATCHING VIDEO: Personally, I consider Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man duology as the most creative in term of web swinging, action, and cinematography BUT sadly in general is the one whose writting is the weakest of the bunch. Given it tried to sometimes cramp up too much stuff as once, sometimes add to many characters that, a lot of times only few really mattered, not giving us time to care for them (which is a shame because some interactions like peter and the stacys, or him and his aunt were good when given time); sometimes rarely having them interact with each other or among themselves to make them feel more genuine. Sometimes overcomplicating stuff, and sometimes bad pacing. SPECIALLY ASM2. Like, was it really THAT necessary to include the prologue of how Peter's parents died? was it so hard to put Peter discovering his dad's research BEFORE Harry asked him for his blood as possible cure (that way, peter knows, his blood might have bad side effects on harry given it is coded to only work on the parker DNA)? Or maybe even set since ASM 1 that Peter is best friends with the son of Oscorp's owner only for people outside his family and few friends to don't believe him?
Not helped that ASM1 tries so hard to be like a "darker take" on spider-man's origin story, that feels like a repetition of everything seen in the first film with the only factor that makes it different being Gwen and Captain Stacy.
And ASM2 feels like trying to make up for lost time, by overcompensating on the "adding new stuff" to the point it doesn't feel organic, but rushed
Maybe this video will make me reconsider stuff, who knows?

My biggest problem with Amazing Spider-Man was how poorly Uncle Ben's death was handled. They literally copied and pasted the same formula from the original film: Peter and Uncle Ben have an argument, Peter walks away, Peter then gets into an argument with a douchebag, Peter doesn't help the douchebag stop the robber and then the robber kills Ben. Only this time, they managed to make it even MORE inaccurate to the comics by making it a convenient store robbery instead of at the wrestling ring and have Ben die because he stupidly went after the killer's gun when he should have left him alone and called the police.
My biggest problem with Amazing 2 was Harry's look at the Goblin. Instead of actually giving him a mask, the makeup artist decided to make him look like something from a bad 80's movie.

And that was really hammered in with the second one. Overall I thought it was okay, which is how I felt back in 2012.
The sequel I found to be unbearable. It was actually worse than I remembered. Bad plot, stupid villains, and just overall not that fun of a watch for me. If Sony decides to go back to this franchise, they need to not meddle in the making of this film and need good writers, because that’s what hurts the franchise the most

From what was shown in NWH, Andrew Garfield definitely proved that he can be a great Spider-Man if given the right material to work with, the costume from his second film was the first step while everything that was shown in No Way Home were the main ingredients. On top of that, Andrew Garfield can really act and if you want some good examples of his acting ability use The Social Network and the Doctor Who 2-parter, Daleks in Manhattan/Evolution of the Daleks as really good references.

The main problem has always been keeping Peter Parker a teenager. That's the problem.. Hence why Peter B Parker stole the show in spider verse and why PS4 Spidey is such a hit. Hence why AG and Maguire are the crowd pleasers in far from home. We want our Spider-Man to grow up already. A seasoned Spidey who's basically a vet in his line of work. We want a Spidey who is struggling or could careless of making his rent and a Spidey with heart and more mature themes. Parker has always been ahead of the curve, he didn't stay in highschool for that long in the comics(616) Most of his most fascinating stories are when he's older. Let's stop trying to sell toys for a minute and let's mature the character. Miles can be that teenage adolescent story.

I always thought about the potential of TASM films, the first one feeling like half done. A science fiction movie about relationships and change and it gets interrupted by superhero stuff. The TASM 2…is a mess but it ends up with unintentional message.

It's amazing how much bad writing can ruin good enough concepts.

    My takes.
TASM - Don't care for the suit. Performances are very good, almost great. The attempt to go dark and gritty falls flat.
THASM2 - Suit is vastly improved. Performances of the leads again are fantastic. They tried to get away from the grittiness of the 1st and overshot it. The film is all kinds of jumbled. There is way too much going on to fit inside a 2 hour movie and a lot of what makes the movie good (the performances and chemistry between the leads) are completely lost.

Man, I completely forget about everything they tried in TASM2: Electro, Harry, Gwen and Peter break up, they try and get back together, Peter's guilt of Gwen's father, Gwen's dying, his depression, and the beginning of the movie regarding Peter's parents. A lot of it going nowhere.

Andrew was a great Peter and Spidey but the script and studio meddling failed him. Another great video Owen!
