    Team Nour 🫶🫶🫶
Chafic was mocking her lips and the guys and Dounia were laughing. Nour could have easily attacked the men's appearances in response to that, but she didn't.
As for the natural beauty comment - Dounia later posted on Instagram about getting lip fillers. I have absolutely no problem with fillers, but it's wild to me that she could let Mido insult a woman for not being "natural" and take it as a compliment to herself, but then go ahead and be a hypocrite.

Yes, Nour and Chafiq had some weird moments, but I don’t understand why Dounia is directing her anger and jealousy towards Nour when she should be directing it towards her man, Chafiq. Nour is not even a part of their relationship. Also, Mido is SO obsessed with Nour, just like all the other people ganging up on her.. Karma is 100% the classiest and most graceful one

Actually, Ashley doesnt really care if I get complimented. I do though. I've been sexually harassed in almost every job I've had, sometimes heinously, and at this point I get triggered when people hit on me. Multiple managers have tried to groom me. You might notice that compliments towards Ashley get hearted on our channel but I dont reengage with almost any physical compliments towards myself because I do most of the channel comment management. This has actually been one of the safest jobs I've ever had from a sexual harassment standpoint. Not one inappropriate DM and virtually no inappropriate comments. Its kinda awesome tbh. Also, I would ABSOLUTELY think someone was lying if they complimented my voice, lol. I think I sound goofy.

Ok let’s be real for a second. The only thing Nour did “wrong” during the season was a) be materialistic and b) laughing about Dounia being visibly jealous. Which really isn’t the worst thing in the world. So I think the hate for her is overblown when Simo and Ammar was probably more of a villain than her. In regards to the reunion, they were all coming for Nour and I think she was just matching their energy. They were all ganging up and throwing insults at her and interrupting her so she held her ground and did the same back to them. Dounia mentioned Nour multiple times during the season even before she knew about their prior relationship and had this fixation on her, so I get Nour calling her out for her jealousy. It kinda just goes to show you the double standards. People love a cocky man (Simo/Ammar/Chafic) but hate a cocky woman (Nour).

    • @englishblade
      @englishblade 2 месяца назад +15

thats not true, she was mean to Dounia from the get go as soon as Chafic picked Dounia and not Nour, that was so weird how she kept making weird remarks about chafic to her whilst simultaneously wanting chafic herself, girls do that alot when they want a guy and the other members could see it, hence why they stuck up for Dounia
Asma was materialistic upfront about her demands and had so many of the guys attention and was still well liked by all the girls and guys, kareem, khateb, mido all wished her well she was open about why she left them, Nour acted like b1tch excuse my french to any girl who liked the guy she wanted, shes insecure and couldnt handle chafic choosing dounia and not her

Okay I think you have missed some part of the reunion during filming because I’m choked that you didn’t realise that Nour was being bullied.
All the men except Mohammed in the reunion gang up on her. Ammar told her that nobody would want to be with someone like her so Nour was just defending herself. And Dounia DID say before they meet everybody that she was feeling insecure about how beautiful Nour was.
Sometimes the part you missed change the whole meaning of the interaction.

Yup I feel they had a blond spot for Chafik and Dounia. Dounia herself admitted that she was nervous about Chafik seeing Nour for the 1st time because she considered Nour such a beauty. I found it annoying when Mido said Nour had nothing to offer because during one of their conversations in the pods she got very emotional and talked about helping people in need with her sister…. people be acting like she talks about money 24/7 but that’s not even accurate.
Also hated how all the men were disrespectful towards Nour; there is no excuse for how they behaved towards her and the other women (eg Chafic calling Karma a “crow”).
If I were Dounia I would be so embarrassed for how my fiancé treats other women…
There’s a lot more I could say but my conclusion after watching the reunion is that all those men are dissappointing.

For me it is the ongoing "slut-shaming" and judgment towards Nour for being "sexy". The guys are obvs into her and cant manage their attraction towards, so they bully her.
Also there is a constant atmosphere of "good behaved girls vs. bad slutty girls" and Nour, Hajar and Karma were clearly lumped (literally even) together as the "slutty/cheap" girls that dont deserve a good husband. that´s why Nour kept on expalinign herself "there is a diefference between a "cheap" gilr and a girl with standards". On the mean side the hypocrisy was just through the roof. And Chafic also many times mentioning "Dounia never had a boyfriend" and what he means is "Dounia is a virgin" in contrast to the "bad girls". This is just one little message, there was so much going on, that I think if you are not from the culture, it is hard to look through. But those guys are bullies, they want "well behaved girls" who are "diplomatic" and "dont dance in a "alluring way" and dont give reason for "jealousy" and meanhwile also look so unrealistically good all the time, but then they dont want to provide financially? lol

Thank you for your nuanced and thorough description, it hit home for me. Despite us laughing at the asshole men, our final take post show really is that all the men are problematic and we do support the women. Even Mohammed made the “its hard to hear no” comment. You wrapping up and summarizing the mens attacks jives with what we saw. I thought it was nuts when Mido said Karma had to be more diplomatic when she was probably the most diplomatic person Id ever seen on screen. I think with Nour specifically we feel more complicated. In my eyes, Nour describing herself as an anti feminist and a rich person expecting a wealthy standard tipped off my radar and made me less likely to support her. For me, extreme wealth and antifeminism are immoral. So in ways she would be our political enemy.
I dont know where you are or how much you know of conservative US media but it reminds me of a hypothetical. Ann Coulter is a racist, homophobic, islamaphobic, misogynist writer. If someone attacked her in misogynist ways, I might condemn the attack, like we did when the Habibi men attacked Nour’s appearance, but I would never say I support Ann Coulter. I think this same kind of thinking led me to my reaction on the show. I think Nour has problematic views (not as bad as Ann), but the men’s attacks were unwarranted. I hate Ann Coulter for what she’s helped do to my country, but I think Nour has quite a few decent qualities. Im not sure if this clarifies anything but I REALLY appreciate you spurring me to think more about the reunion and this dynamic

@@membriash oh wow i feeling honored for receive that beautiful response. Thank you!
Yes, I do also consider myself a feminist. I am Lebanese-German, as in, I grew up here in EU and have always lived here. I always try to understand my Arab sisters from their point of view. And not having that western passport privilege also plays a role. The thing is we should not forget in many countries, Lebanon included, women by law are not equal. That’s sadly a fact. And considering that our Arab countries are constantly in war, I am not surprised. So the west coming and trying to bomb us into “democracy’” and “women rights” for decades now, is obviously only resulting in the opposite. And on top of that, society has all these informal hypocritical demands on women, as mentioned in my post before. I am not saying Nour is flawless, but I think she hit a nerve for many Arab women, that our men are demanding from us to be “feminists” as in to provide for ourselves and pay our own stuff, but they are 1) not actively changing the laws that are unequal towards women 2) not changing hypocritical values 3) not accepting sexual freedom (e.g. Hajjar and Karma). So, when Nour says I am “anti-feminist” what she actually means “I am anti western feminism that just does not realistically work unless you are a western/white woman” - growing up in both worlds, European and Arab, I can also see the pros and cons of both approaches. Men are still completely in power here, the percentage of women in power is still too weak. Men still own most of the capital, power, and decision making posts. But we are supposed to go 50/50 in hetero relationships… so what I appreciate sometimes in good old Arab values is that men are asked to be responsible, reliable and providing husbands, since it’s the women who carry the babies for 9months, and who provide so much emotional labour also. This new generation of men, that are perfectly portrayed in this season, are a bit “confused”, they want women that look and behave what they believe is western in a way, “educated”, “intellectual”, “diplomatic”, “attractive based on western beauty standards”, “provides for herself” but there will always remain a level of submission, that they should not pass. And us Arab women are understandably revolting against that confused “feminism” . I think we are starting to prefer the traditional provider… as that at least is an honest understanding of things.

It’s a little little odd that you guys are so entertained by Simo’s rude behavior, but say that nour shows up badly. One thing that nour has that no one can take away from her is that she was always authentic to who she is. Many of the men as well as I feel were very insecure and who they were and Donia also made very disrespectful and remark to prior to ever talking to her. Donia was extremely insecure and jealous of her, and nour was right to tell her to not be so jealous and insecure. It almost feels like you all were judging her because she’s not someone that you’d be friends with rather than judging her on her actions especially juxtaposed to everyone else on the cast to behaved as badly. I feel bad for Khatab, Asma seems so fake now. I don’t love Nour, she is just super blunt, but at least seems authentic to her own self. I am team Karma, she was the most real of anyone and because of Ammar forcing everyone to back off of her in the pods he robbed her to find someone else. They both made a mistake for getting engaged with the knowledge of the dancing thing, they both knew they won’t budge. I don’t like controlling men, but this is very much ingrained in their culture. I dated someone from the east and the thing is, even most westernized men there stick to their beliefs on traditional relationships, while women don’t, because they are the ones who would be controlled. It is just what it is. It is not a bad thing, just a massive generalization from my experience so don’t come for me. Everyone should find a partner with whom their value system, future plans and relationship dynamic aligns with, otherwise it will be endless misery. But in that sense, love IS blind, when we are in the heat of the emotions we are willingly looking away from even the possibility that we are not compatible. If love would not be blind, there would be less relationships and less breakups in the world i think:) i love your channel guys, your chemistry is amazing and your opinion is thought provoking❤ i also know it is a safe place for my comments. I do think she wasn't putting anyone down when she said she had two degrees and spoke three languages and was instead trying to prove her worth, but I can see why it can be read that way. I give Nour the benefit of the doubt as her attacks are usually more direct.

Guys, you are speaking about Amar with all these high opinions about him, you seem to want to be too safe about it. How about the time he told her he expects to have the decisions and she should just say "ok"???? It's not necessary to yell at someone to be toxic and controlling. I would say this demeanor is even more dangerous, saying strong affermations like this with a smile, but very determined tone?! He already showed her how her future life might look like, and I think she was very careful how she responded to him because she understood already the type of man he is. In fact she felt way more free to talk openly in the studio. And I bet he even filtered himself because of the cameras, because at the beginning of the relationship one wants to show up the best qualities, etc.
I don't think they just want different things, I think any women would feel controlled and not free with a man like him.

We’ve said it before, I’d 100% rather someone is honest about their awful behavior than think the same thing and lie lie lie to their partner and us. Half the men in US seasons control, abuse, cheat, abandon children, and break the women they date. Ammar, on paper, did none of those things. He said he would control Karma, but he never had the opportunity. He told Karma his plans to, she said “no thankyou” and now shes safe and fine.

I found the attacks on Nour for just wanting to stay on the show full of hypocrisy when Mido did the same thing! The only real difference is when he saw her, he liked what she looked like. I knew they wouldn't address this, but I wish they had talked to Mido about his possible inability to have hard conversations. When Asma went to break up with him he talked, wouldn't hear her out, and walked away. When he went to break up with Nour bc he felt like she liked Chafic more, he talked, wouldn't hear her out, and walked away. Two situations don't make a pattern, but I do wish someone talked to him about it.

I just finished watching the reunion then came to watch your reactions.
This was intense. I don't know if my perspective is affected by watching the original and not the dubbing. These are also my initial reactions. Sorry that its so long.
Still love Safa & Mohammad. I appreciate that they were willing to share the issues they experienced and how they dealt with it. Mohammad's reaction to the picture with the pot on his head was hilarious. They're great and I wish them happiness.
Their friendship with Chafiq & Dounia is sweet and I do wish Chafiq and Dounia a happy marriage. They seem to be working out their issues.
I like that Asma and Khattab had good things to say to and about each other.
I'm sad to see that some people came prepared to say hurtful things to others. What Mido said about Nour and how he and Chafiq made fun of her appearance was not acceptable. Nour trying to give Dounia "advice" implying she doesn't have confidence also came from a bad place in my opinion - she should have stuck to responding to Mido, why bring Dounia into the conversation at that point. Nour is still talking in a condescending way to others, which I still don't like, then she kept making comments/digs under her breath. She's not the only pretty & smart woman. The other men shouldn't have jumped in with their comments either. That was too much. None of them come across well in this situation. I'm glad the host (Ilham) put a stop to this and how she did it.
Karma & Ammar come from very different backgrounds and expectations. To me their discussion at the reunion seemed relatively respectful (maybe it just feels that way compared to what happened earlier).
Same with Simo and Hagar - even though they obviously don't get along, there was no fighting.
I'm Arab and I was ok with them talking English & French - more in English as I don't know as much French and needed the English translation. French is more common in Lebanon, Morocco, and Tunisa. I only took some French in school. I tend to switch between Arabic and English multiple times while talking (sometimes mid-sentence), and sometimes it will take me a min to remember a word in either language. At first I thought they were joking with Chafiq about the his lack of fluency in Arabic but it did seem to go on a bit long.
Overall, I liked this first season and I hope they do a second season with some tweaks like extending the time after the resort for people with families that live further away.
Thank you for reviewing LIB Habibi and how you dealt with the different topics. This felt like a safe place. ❤

If my sister woul decide to become a professional bellydancer, I‘d have a problem with it or at least wish a more modest job for her. I get why Ammar doesn’t wanna see his wife and mother of his kids, dance infront of men lusting over her. 🤔

But it’s a hobby tho…and she explicitly said she doesn’t dance eastern dances in front of an audience and just in the studio

@it seems like there is a translation issue. if you watched in arabic, she said she does all sorts of performances but had no change to bellydance yet, but would absolutely do it (and explicitly said bellydance).

I find this video has been another let's hate on Nour for simply being herself. She didn't insult anyone (defended herself without cheap shots) she was confident in her looks that's her choice why hate on her. This video has been another one of those " let's hate on a woman for knowing her worth". Disappointing.

No she was literally rude and said “dounia i have advice for you you need to be more confident” and flirted with a taken man. Yes they were rude to her but it’s not like she is innocent

And Nour is trolling people, for sure, but in my opinion it's just her way of dealing with the sexist society she lives in... Maybe Dunia annoys her because she conforms to how a woman "should be" according to the patriarchy. Which doesn't justify her behavior, but I would get the frustration...

Asma and Hajar were materialistic, Asma had 3 guys who wanted her and she left all 3, yet notice they only had well wishes for her because she carried herself classy and wasnt rude to the other girls acting like a pick me like Nour, hajar and asma were well loved by the contestants, the real reason Nour was disliked was because Nour was a pick me who was mean to Dounia, making weird comments to try get her to leave Chafic while simultaneously wanting him for herself, I see this in my girl groups all the time and hate it

Mido had practiced what he was going to say to Nour in the mirror since he left the beach. Probably rehearsed it with the guys and it fell flat… lol now he’s the ass. How is it that Nour can say sorry if I’m not laughing and it’s oh see it’s these things that make me it like her but Simo can say I don’t care what you have to say and its funny? IMO Chafic put things in Dounia and Mido’a ear about Nour and that made them not like her. He told Dounia how Nour would flirt with him in the pods making fun of her. But when he talks to Nour he has a smile from ear to ear. He told Mido that he didn’t like her cause she didn’t say hi and how he could do better. Chafic distaste for Nour showed and Mido started to look a her differently.
