I heard if you go into your bathroom at 3 am, tap the mirror and say "whats the best glue for foam" 3 times, Kamui will pop out of your sink drain to haunt you forever
Heads up to those of you looking to use barge glue/cement, it’s pretty wiffy, so make sure to use it in a well ventilated area, especially if you plan to use a lot of it at once. Additionally it works really well to glue softer leather such as pig and deer hide. Barge is pretty easy to find if you have a leather workers’ shop near you such as Tandy leather which appears to be a store across the US and not a local chain like I thought. It is illegal to ship large quantities of it to residential areas without certain paperwork so that’s something to be aware of too.
I probably need to say thank you. Not for the glue, I will probably ask about this again later. LOL. No, I'm thanking you for being an inspiration to me. I caught your video on what you did to lose weight to look so awesome in your cosplay outfits. I don't do cosplay but I do love the crafts so watching your videos is really helpful. I think I remember seeing a few of your older videos back about 8 years ago when you were cutting out foam in your living room. Anyway, your weight loss video really did inspire me to lose weight. I figure is you could do it, I could. I'm going to be 65 years old in less than 30 days and I'd been trying but never succeeding in losing weight. Mainly because I wasn't careful about what I ate. I started walking 10 miles plus a day. Some exercise and seriously cut back on sugar and drinking lots of water. In 7 months I lost 65 pounds and am now down from a 252 pound start to a comfortable 185 pounds. I'm still working on the lose skin but it's really tightening up. I know that's probable way TMI. But I just wanted to thank you for that video and thank you for all your videos. I find you very entertaining, helpful and you don't put me to sleep.
I love this video! I've never work with foam before but now I feel a little more confident ! however with the barge glue please make sure you guys use it in a well-ventilated area! And if you are not in a ventilated area at least put on a face mask! I use it on my leather products and it is toxic! So put on a face mask or do it in a room that has a lot of airflow and have the doors open and things like that! The fumes will make you feel really dizzy. Also with the large cans there's an applicator inside but a Q-tip will work just as well!
I'm an American & i love the Weldwood No Drip gel. The regular Weldwood is really watery & drippy & seems to take at least 2 coats & takes longer to dry. The gel only takes 5 minutes & is far cheaper than Barge. I also use super glue for small pieces of 2mm foam.
For folks in the States, I'd suggest DAP Weldwood contact cement, as it is much, much cheaper than Barge, like less than half the price. It takes longer to set (like 15 minutes) but that can sometimes be a good thing when working with broad surfaces. Otherwise, it's just as powerful and effective.
I tried DAP Weldwood and it works great. I tried transferring half a bottle into a squeeze bottle but I guess it wasn't a HDPE bottle with a good seal and it evaporated 80% after two days :(
Michael Acosta i transferred the watery stuff into a $2 ketchup bottle with a lid (no idea what material it is beyond thick, squeeze bottle) and as long as i keep the cap on, it's fine. I left the cap off for 2 days once & it just thickened up a little, which was fine by me.
Hello there! Love your sidekick. Oh that's not your sidekick it's your dog. He's just the cutest thing ever! Your videos are amazing and they explain the topic perfectly. I am looking forward to seeing more. Thank you. Give the Corgis a hug for me.
i just started doing props about a week ago and i want to thank you and your channel. youve taught me so much and honestly probably saved me so much money and trial and error. thank you.
SO!!!!!!!!!!!! I've tried hot glue, while it works incredibly well, if you want a soft edge that won't hurt people... like on a sword... you do NOT want to use it! Now I've tried rubber cement, and I officially love you! Your technique makes AMAZING bonds. They just don't let go. Weldwood is readily available where I am, and using your technique it's only a 1-2 minute dry time for permanent bonds. A little longer when gluing to pvc, but that's because you end up with a little thicker layer on the pvc. (and honestly I've bonded in as little as about 30 seconds after gluing the second side and have had no trouble. Lastly, I made a pour spout for my can of cement, out of the side of a mix and measure plastic bucket (1 quart) It just snaps in the lip of the can, and with a little shaping at the end there is NO mess at all. Then you just stand the can back up and scrape the rest back in with a piece of foam. The rest can be rubbed off when dry or washed off immediately. I should make a vid!
Thank you so much! You make starting my first foam armor costume so much less intimidating! I'm definitely going to check out your horn patterns too. Perfect for what I need!
While my kids and I adore your build videos I really appreciate these small videos detailing specific aspects of crafting. They really help with our own projects.
You are spot on with your glues! In my industry, we use Ortec or Col de cologne on EVA (but those are just specific contact cements). Depending on durometer differences and applications, we may or may not use primers as well.
I was looking for a tutorial for your horns pattern, but I'm a novice so I decided to watch this video to understand more about foam. You can't imagine my surprise🤣
I stumbled on this looking up info for another popular brand of glue. Great post. :) And to anyone using this stuff, pls follow the safety guidelines for these glues. I'm an aviation structural mech. I've dealt w/ some nasty glues(and a ton of other bad chemicals). Even w/ full safety gear( respirator, tyvek suit...) we still get exposure to the chemicals we work w/. Toluene is a common one in rubber cement type glues. It will mess you up later on in life. Try to avoid anything w/ MEK in it as well.
Love the editing xD this series is sooo helpful! Would you consider doing a tutorial for the different head parts of a dremel? I am a bit overwhelmed with all the pieces and don't know which to use for what :S
OMG... IT WAS ME.... LOL. I also asked about the glue on one of the Facebook posts...😂... thank you... this video was perfect.... you and your hubby are awesome... the videos are, not only entertaining, but very, very helpful and informative. Love you! Best wishes from Canada... you two are awesome! 🙂
You should do a video on how to thin contact cement and different methods or chemicals to use. When it sits in the bottle too long it thickens and I hate throwing it away. I've looked for videos in how to do it but couldn't find anything reliable. Keep up the good work, really enjoy the videos, they're there best 😁
I wish I had found your video two weeks ago. My pirate ship wouldn't have fallen apart. Well, I'm saving you for my next project. I'm subscribing to your channel and I'll be lurking around to learn every bit I can. Thank you for this.
Well Contact cement is probably out of my reach considering the price, but you did show me how to actually and properly make use of those contact glue. I used to believe that a thicker coat would mean a better grip but it seems I was wrong. Thank you !
If you are in the states, you can get Weldwood contact cement in a 3 ounce bottle for a couple bucks. www.amazon.com/107-3-Ounce-Weldwood-Contact-Cement/dp/B000M2SKNU/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1531429307&sr=8-5&keywords=contact+cement It's cheaper if your buy it at homedepot or lowes. You can also get it in larger cans, pint and quart size. It's not quite as good as Barge, but it's cheaper and is perfectly suitable for cosplay. Unless you are doing leather clothing that you intend to wear during your day to day, then I'd recommend barge. It is better on leather.
Saphirone a little goes a long way & the small bottle of Weldwood is $5. I'm just getting to the bottom of my large can after 5 months of frequent use. It might seem expensive but considering you won't need to buy more for half a year, it's not really so bad.
I live in europa, so I do not have access to barge, but I do use the other glue she recommand, which is called Neoprene in my country, I was wondering if it was better than contact cement when it comes to resistance.
First of all those horns are awesome ,and thank you very much for the video, I still have not decided which adhesive would be best for my cosplay, because in my country we have only pattex. But i guess the contact cement is going to be a better choice ,in the end .
This is a very helpful video, thanks very much. My only question... Aren't you concerned about long-term exposure to the fumes? Isn't it a good idea to use a respirator with an appropriate VOC filter when using contact cement?
This is my first time seeing you, and this video is SO helpful! I thought Kamui Cosplay sounded familiar to me, and it's because you're going to be a guest at YetiCon! So I'm really excited to meet you now, after just finding this video. Cheers!
I love your videos and energy and I'm just starting to get into some deeper cosplay now! I do have one question, how did you fill your squeeze bottles so effectively XD Thank you
thanks for telling me about pattex, its also shopped in poland as well in a price of 3 euros, i didnt want to shop from belgum and pay +10 euros for simple gule
May I know how do you pour your contact cement into the bottle? Do you just directly pour into it or is there some other ways? And how long is the shelf life?
Lol, i love that "subtle" message on your shirt.
LMAO, haven't seen it until I read your comment ^^
Oh lol I didn't even notice 😂
Haven't noticed until this XD
Thats the first thing i noticed lol
Same lol
I heard if you go into your bathroom at 3 am, tap the mirror and say "whats the best glue for foam" 3 times, Kamui will pop out of your sink drain to haunt you forever
Luckily that doesn't happen too often. It's pretty draining for my free time...
I heard that curse can only be lifted if you buy her books.
Spooooky
If I do this and she doesn’t show up I’m going to be disappointed lol
And when she goes back in to the drain, she says but one thing before leaving...
"Buy my books."
I feel the need to buy one of your books for some odd reason

For cosplayer's in the UK the glue is often termed Contact Adhesive. One I've found is the 'Evo Stik, Impact Adhesive'
Mostly it's the same stuff shoe makers use to attach the soles. It comes under many different names.
Thank you! I was looking at this stuff today, and wondered if it was similar stuff! 😁👍👍
@@DarlingbroughModelRailway There's another UK one that isn't as off the shelf called Alpha Thixofix.
@@DarkRifterDesigns Awesome! Thanks!
What's the glue you use for your cosplays?

It's like ligma
I have a bump on my head where I fell out of my chair laughing. XD

for some reason i have the idea to buy your books, dunno why :D
I'm 13 and making my first cosplay this summer. I'm going to be a sith lord. Youre vids have helped so much !!!!!
If anyone ever needs a good example of “Subliminal Messaging” (as well as how to glue foam) be sure to show them this video ;)

slappymeats weldwood is also easy to find at my local hardware stores too. Barge is definitely rarer
slappymeats 15 minutes seems a bit long. My experience was no more than 10 minutes for the watery stuff & 5 minutes for the Gel.
It says 15 minutes on the bottle but I never have to wait that long. Easy to find and cheap, totally agree with this
I tried DAP Weldwood and it works great. I tried transferring half a bottle into a squeeze bottle but I guess it wasn't a HDPE bottle with a good seal and it evaporated 80% after two days :(

I'll be damned! I've been using contact cement for a long time, and applying it wayyyy too thick. I had no idea. Glad I watched this video.
00:39 I wonder if the glue is the same as castol or rajawali glue.
Thank you so much! You make starting my first foam armor costume so much less intimidating! I'm definitely going to check out your horn patterns too. Perfect for what I need!

Sunny Red The 2 i use the most for foam are the sanding drum and the stone grinding bits in various shapes.
ditto here. Mostly the sanding tips!
Thanks for the answers😍
Thx again. Now I can go about armor and weapon crafting with much more ease.
You are a lifesaver! Or at least you saved hours of my life waiting for my over glued pieces to dry.
I love your armor patterns! You make my life so much easier, THANK YOU!!!
I love how your tank top says "Buy my Books"😆 it's very You, dear.
Just want to say, I love your energy, skills, sense of humor and how you share your advice and work with so many. You're awesome! :)

Of I don’t mind get burn, super/CA glue work pretty good too, not much more messy than contact cement. And it is quick, I mean flash quick

Lovely dress, such a subtle message. :P and Corgi's with horns?! YES~!
How do you get the glue from can to the bottle? A funnel maybe? Though it might be too viscous for that. P.S Sorry for another glue question....
Guten tag!! I built a pair Wolfman feet using Barge and Eva foam. I was stationed in Bitburg Germany.

KamuiCosplay that’s not funny
May I know how do you pour your contact cement into the bottle? Do you just directly pour into it or is there some other ways? And how long is the shelf life?
With a spoon. ;) In the little bottle it lasts around 1-2 months.
Ah I see! Thank you very much!!
yay!! so glad you made this!! thank you ♥️
For the bottle that you use, do you fill up extra and store it or just when you make a cosplay?
Now...what's that brown stuff you use to make armor?
Heh, just kidding :)
!!!
A sewing notcher will cut those indents far more quickly. They only cost a couple of EUR/GBP/USD.
