      We have a yearly m.o.t. test in the uk for cars that are 4 or more years old. You're not allowed any warning lights to be on (abs, engine check light etc etc) sooooooo I covered them on an old car I had with black insulation tape and took the car in to get inspected during the evening, winter time and low and behold.... it passed... two years in a row

    • @piewackete

      I had the same issue with my first manual car, we have such idiotic emissions in this state and couldn't get it to pass when I bought it and after lot of arguing I came back the next day after resetting some lights I was shocked when they handed me a paper that said it passed

    • @jackielinde7568

      Since I've gotten my Jetta TDI's emissions fixed under the recall, The emissions stations for Arizona DMV haven't been able to figure out how to disable traction control to test it. The last two years, they've just waved me through. (Kind of frustrating, because I want to see how the fix performs.)

    • @jackielinde7568
      @jackielinde7568 5 лет назад +2

      @@piewackete As long as the issue that caused the OBD warning lights is cleared, just clearing the OBD is fine. It's when you have something, like a faulty O2 sensor, that keeps raising errors that is going to keep your car from passing.

    • @piewackete
      @piewackete 5 лет назад

      Jack Linde mine had a CEL for secondary air problem or something like that, I cleaned the throttle body and a few other things but it kept getting rejected saying monitors not ready. even after driving it every day for 3 weeks it still wouldn't test but finally it decided to pass. I still think emissions is the biggest scam and the proof is if you do 500 worth of repairs (at a Indiana approved emissions repair place that of course costs a ton more than reg shops) and still fail you can get a waiver and get your plates....Soo a car that supposedly is Soo polluting that even after 500 worth of work it still fails as long as you pay for the waiver you get your plates

    Obviously not every shop will pass them like that, but you'd be surprised what will pass depending on where you take it.

Drove it a couple hours north to the middle of nowhere in yeeyee and for 20 extra dollars the inspection consisted of “ do your turn signals “ “ step on the breaks “ “ flash your headlights “ “ honk your horn “ boom a car that we couldn’t get to pass an inspection for over a year got a new sticker 😂

    In VA they don't drive your car at all. There's a checklist of items they check like lights, wheels, tires, horn, etc, then you're good to go. However, the real hoopties you see are all in Maryland because they don't require any annual inspections, only when you first register the vehicle.

    Greetings from Berlin. A little story a teacher of mine told me :
    She went with her Trabant to a lakeside for a beach afternoon.
    Since she forgot to pull the handbrake properly, and there was some incline, the Trabant was in the water even before her.
    But it did not dive; in fact, since it is mostly made of cotton fiber, it floated.
    She realised she had a chance of saving it, took a plunge after it, and pulled it back by gripping the bumper.
    after she had it back on dry land, the carbs and engine were flooded.
    Guess what, she cleaned the carbs at that site, same as changing the head gasket just to be sure. piece of cake with a simple 2-stroke.
    Went home like nothing happened.
    Jokes on the Trabant as much as you want, but it is pretty reliable once you get used to the usual service for 2-strokes.
    I miss the lively sound of these little oily stinkers. They become very rare these days, even in east germany.

    Here in Canada, we don't have emissions, or inspections unless you brought the vehicle in from another province (State for u Americans). So I pulled a 95 Jetta TDI out of a field, plated it, drove it, fixed it up a little, until I had a break caliper come off, parked it and sold it breaking even. It would have NEVER passed inspections, but it was in province and has been played before so it was fine.

    A safety isn’t needed to title a vehicle in Missouri. A simple ID/OD would suffice.
    Also, those haggard vehicles you referred to in the city of St. Louis, they probably aren’t licensed. Or insured. Or road worthy. But hey, slap a plate on it and go seems to be good enough.

    2 stroke engines are supposedly super cheap and easy to fully restore. There are about 3 moving parts that can even be replaced. Motocross racers will rebuild their engine between races because its so easy, might as well have a brand new piston ring for full compression every single race.
