Another great video. I agree with Riley on instructions 😂. If I might suggest that, assuming your going to bring in some gravel for concrete, possibly some foundation work, and parking area, that you just get it brought in for you? A tri-axle dump can haul 20+ metric tonnes at a time, and they wouldn't have any problem getting into your site. And two loads would probably do the trick for everything you need. Just be a lot easier than trying to bring in the same amount of aggregate with the little army truck, and given fuel and such, might not cost much more, all things considered. Really looking forward to seeing your plans for the building.
I don't think we are going to be able to get a gravel truck all of the way up here, so we will have it delivery somewhere along the road as close as it can get! At least that way we will be doing short runs with the truck, and saving quite a bit of time.
Excellent teamwork. Feel the love. Why not build up the front vs dig down the back? It seems your back will be prone to flooding? I guess I will have to wait and see. Killing it! Thanks for sharing
Nice job! Keep in mind that alot of water can come down from the high side of the lot and could flood the new building. You might have to build a water diversion wall or trench or raise the lot higher. Maybe digging into the hillside more is part of the answer? It didn`t take you long to see having the exc. higher works better for loading. Do you know how far down the water source is for drilling? Or do you plan on catching rain water? Tell us, tell us lol. The dump truck was a great choice for that truck. Take care and happy 4th

Cut and fill is what you maybe need to do there. If you need to level 4 feet, cut 2 feet from one side and add that 2 feet of fill to the other side. AKA, cut and fill. The fill needs to be compacted too. That's how we level home sites here in Australia. :)
Oh man....the Americans........things you guys can do as its normal down there. Kudos Just found the channel...And i think i am binging 😂 May be its the smiles on each and every frames😊
A heat shield would be good around that exhaust pipe to protect the HPU from the heat. Would also keep the hydraulic fluid off of the exhaust pipe (fire concern).
4ft is a lot you may want to consult a soil test company I forget the name of them ! Cause your building on a slopped property and filling in 4ft of soil is going to need to be compacted or you’ll need engineered soil to prevent slide and compaction from the building ! Just food for thought I love the lot
@@AmbitionStrikes I ran into the same issue with a buddies shop they had to use special technique to pack it down ! Basicly get a tamper and every ft of soil pack it down and then another foot .
U guys are killing it. Impressive to see what you have accomplished and really enjoyable videos. One question: how do you ensure adequate compaction on the fill side of the building layout with the dirt you’re dumping
Thanks for watching Ed! Because we don't have access to any large compaction equipment we are going to be very careful to try and minimize the amount of filling we need to do. We have kept the soil for filling wet and done our best to wheel roll it with the army truck as we go. I think we are also going to rent a viber plate as well.
Cutting into that hillside is going to cause a couple of issues • The hill will subside (fall in) unless you plan on building a retaining wall (expensive if you do it right). Make sure your building is far enough away that the dirt won't push it off the foundation ! • Spring run off can potentially flood your building ! Study how to build a proper French drain to get the water to run away form/around the building.
Those are all great points! We plan to do a rock retaining wall with all of the rock we have gotten thus far. Drainage is going to be incredibly important and we certainly shouldn't put it off before the rain season arrives!
@@AmbitionStrikes The base needs to be 2 rows high and 2 rows deep of BOULDERS ≥ 3' with the first row buried at least 50%. You still need to cut the top of that bank back. Slope behind the base should be about 1:1.
I learned how to mix and spread concrete in the Army in Nam at my last house I poured a walkway by myself 4' X 16' X 3+" in less than 8 hrs. you could do a shop floor in 8' X 8' X 4" sections in a day and if you did a 4" stone base you could drive on it I know that is a lot of bags of cement but that would make a nice floor for a shop. just saying!....................nice job!

You guys are so innovative, figuring out how to make what you do have work for you. I love Boone? (not sure which dog is which one ... I doze too much when I am watching) trying to play with the tree limb. Too funny.

Wow, Riley, your mom is so youthful!
When filling Hydraulics you want to only fill when the bed is down. If you top it off when the bed is up you will blow that cap off when you lower the bed.
Yes! Unfortunately we didn't have the right funnel to be able to fill it with the bed down (wasn't enough room) so we had to raise it a bit. But we made sure to not overfill it for that reason.

Great work guys. I’m loven what I’m seeing. F&T ❤️BT❤️. Cheers!!!
Thanks for supporting our dreams!
I'd love to build a nice off grid cabin on some acreage. Something semi-remote.
As long as I can still get concrete delivered.
Ya'll are awesome people ya'll work extremely well together and ya'll have a lot of fun with everything ya'll do. Good job with the videos.
Thanks Melvin!
I so look forward to these episodes.
Thank you so much for supporting the channel!
I love your Mom!
She’s the best!
Great progress!
We're feeling good about it!
YAY! I freaking LOVE dump truck day!!!!
How can you not smile when you have a 4x4 dump truck on 46” tires… 😉
@@AmbitionStrikes RIGHT?!!!!
Im from malaysia really like your story about your daily vlog congralation
Should paint those IBC's, to keep out sunlight, if you're using them for potable water. Otherwise you risk algae growth.
Yes we should!
Can't wait to see the foundations in. You'll get a ready mix lorry up there?
Stay tuned! 😉
A heat shield would be good around that exhaust pipe to protect the HPU from the heat. Would also keep the hydraulic fluid off of the exhaust pipe (fire concern).
That is a great idea!
4ft is a lot you may want to consult a soil test company I forget the name of them ! Cause your building on a slopped property and filling in 4ft of soil is going to need to be compacted or you’ll need engineered soil to prevent slide and compaction from the building ! Just food for thought I love the lot
Excellent point!
@@AmbitionStrikes I ran into the same issue with a buddies shop they had to use special technique to pack it down ! Basicly get a tamper and every ft of soil pack it down and then another foot .
Courtney, a skid steer has forklift forks readily available. One more reason to get one.
That would be awesome to have!!
Good job you guys!
Thanks John!
Nicely done you guys!! 🙌🙌
Thank you!! 😁
Can’t wait , to see how you tackle the concrete slab👍
😬
I love the Army dump truck. You should contact us at Big Sky Hydraulics to upgrade it from a 12vdc system to a pto drive.
Your momma is my spirit animal!!! I just hope I'm as cool as she is.....
This must have been made before the heat wave. You guys look cool and collected.
We can usually work together pretty well at 100F but when it hit 108F we said nope and headed to the lake! 😂
from the Netherlands thanks for the video
😊
Maybe a larger bucket on the excavator? You guys did great.
Cutting into that hillside is going to cause a couple of issues
• The hill will subside (fall in) unless you plan on building a retaining wall (expensive if you do it right).
Where there's a will, there's a way!
Are you going to install a french drain (or something like that) on the uphill side to redirect water away from the shop?
Yes! We are also exploring the idea of a rain catchment system from the runoff.
@@AmbitionStrikes Awesome!
Keep up the good work!
If you watch letsdig18 you'll pic up some good tips on running your excavator. Sure he's running a large Volvo excavator but same idea's apply. He's tearing out tree's and putting in a pond right now. Would also love to see your video's about 30 minutes long. 15 minutes seems more like it's a teaser. Keep up the good work! 👍👍👍
LD 18 is a badass love his videos
Ooh we'll check him out, thanks for the tip!!
great to see there were no boulders
I think the waterless shower system can also be ordered with Dehydrated Water. Amazon must sell a lot of it: you add air to the "kit" and bingo: you have virtual water! We'll make a million bucks! You guys are so innovative, figuring out how to make what you do have work for you. I love Boone? (not sure which dog is which one ... I doze too much when I am watching) trying to play with the tree limb. Too funny.
Boone is quite the character! 😂
I don't think I ever said "I'm not that kind of engineer. My standard response was, "That's not my specialty, but let me take a look." SO many problems are solved by looking and thinking. The right tools really help too. Electronics, mechanical interface, and systems troubleshooting were my life for 23 years. Y'all seem to be having a good time. It's a joy to watch Y'all. Wow, Riley, your mom is so youthful!
Thats really awesome man🤗🤗
Thanks 😁
That was a very fun Video. As always …. You are the best 👍👍👍👍
Thanks for watching!! 😊
@@AmbitionStrikes I have used a little pump that you hook to your drill and pump it out of the bottle into the tank. btw great videos you guys make me jealous!
Great Team effort to dig and dump. - I would appreciate if you could align all your videos so the newest is on top.
Enjoying this a lot, new subscriber… thanks very much.
Thank you for watching!!
@@AmbitionStrikes still binging away here. Good stuff.
Haha I knew you had to be an engineer! My father and 2 of my brothers are and they all can do anything! Nice.. good luck!
They probably also don't read instructions? 😉
@@AmbitionStrikes exactly!
That is so easy, just takes time! Would love to say Hi sometime during your trips to get stuff.
I got a green laser, so much better. I clean with a tote too, but no pressure.
You guys are cute and I would love a plasma table..
The plasma table is such a game changer! We can not wait to get it moved up here.
@@AmbitionStrikes What do you think about the lanmiur tables? About to break ground on my shop and want one bad!
@@johnjr3870 We don’t know much about that brand.
We have an Arclight Dynamics table (middle price point) and would highly recommend them! Amazing products with even better customer service. When we had an issue they overnighted us parts to get running by the following day.
