    Thanks for applying the ( KISS METHOD ) To your video. I did find it helpful as far as using a 50A to a 30A & how you can still hook your surge protector in between. Also your tip on paying for a 50A when your only using a 30A to your camper. All this was new to me this year as I just bought a 50A to a 30A adaptor , & a surge protector. We have a 2008 22' Airstream Safari 30A travel trailer that we bought new in 2009, & this will be the 1st time we have used both at any camp ground; So that would be 15 years without using either, But the camp ground we stay at this time of year for the 1st time had reservations on all the 30A sites, & only 50A hook up available. Thanks again for your helpful video.

I am dumber than a box of rocks when it comes to like, for example my electric box in my house and when or how to use!! Had to get my husband to label the dang switches so I know how to flip the switch when we have a power outage in a part of the house. I’m still not sure why you need to flip the power outlets off on the shore power before plugging in or Vice versus...oh well...I’m sure I would figure it out after playing around with it.

    Your bonus tip about politely/humbly asking if you could have a reduced campsite-rate for just drawing limited power is certainly "right on the nose", especially for disabled and/or low-income folks like yours truly... it is indeed 100% true that many folks will try to accommodate you if you just "ask nicely" --- everything from a waived fee for an accidental overdraft due to an illness/stressful-interval/computer-glitch mishap ("I was not intentionally being irresponsible, and I almost never goof up like this, so I wondered if I could please get this fee waived as a one-time loyal/responsible-customer-reward courtesy.") to my walking-infirm semi-elderly sister's being permitted to bring her small well-behaved dog in with her to a hardware store that normally does not allow pets ("The dog feels restless and scared to be left alone in the car, and he is somewhat of a therapy-dog for her, too. She or I will be carrying/holding him all the time, too; he's just a quiet lap-dog."). :D :D

    I've had my 2021 Travato 59GL for a month and already had to use a 50a-to-30a adapter.
    It's not like 50amps is being sent into your rig, your rig is only going to take 30amps of that 50 service.
    At my sister's place I use the 30amp-to-15amp adapter and a 50' 15amp extension cord (MAKE SURE IT'S A 15 AMP EXTENSION CORD!) and step down the inverter to 15amp and it works like a charm as well.

    i am watching this vid in Jan 2023 , But i wanted to say it may not be as common with modern campers , but i recently purchased a 1964 shasta camper trailer from a friend and IT uses just the 15 or 20 amp house style plug ( i intend to do a little converting later but trying to keep it looking original) so those 15-20 amp plugs may not be just for tent campers and just a bit of prep suggestion everyone should keep those converter plugs on hand in various configurations 50-30 30-15 15-30 etc. as my boss got the security contract at a rodeo and needed to use generators and wound up having to search a lot of places to get the ones he needed cause one camper was wired for 30 a but the other for 50 a and of course neither had that stupid generator style twist plug.

      Keith, the electric consumption for heat is actually more than A/C. and the heat output is not nearly as hot compared to propane heat. Using electric heat makes sense when plugged into shore power and the temps are above 40F degrees. Other wise propane is the heat source of choice.

  • @richkurtz6053
    @richkurtz6053 3 года назад

    Scott, Do you have a 15 amp adapter to plug in at home or at mooch docking sites? What is necessary on the rig to assure that you do not overload the 15 amp circuit? Great video. Since we are still looking for our first shuttlecraft I have not actually seen a power pole in use, other than I assumed the rig came with a cord to plug it in. From what I understand 30 amp RV's have one A/C unit and 50 amp rigs usually have multiple air conditioners. I guess size does matter.

    Good morning Scott! Is the surge protector really required to have for all the RV parks? Also 50 to 30amp adapter? ......

    • @gosmall.livelarge
      @gosmall.livelarge  3 года назад +1

      I would suggest using a surge protector. It has helped me a few times. Having that adapter is handy and gives options.

      Agree with Scott. Plus, surge or drop might be less common and less disastrous than reversed polarity.

    if there is a campsite that only has 30amp and our RV has 50amp.....we would need a conversion, correct? and, will everthing in our RV 5th wheel work? i imagine having too many things at once, we would trip the breaker....

    do you keep the switches off inside the rig till you are powered up and then turn on all in cab electric switches or does it not matter weather they are on or off when hooking to an outside power source ? i have a new hymer Aktiv

    • @gosmall.livelarge

      Congrats on your Aktiv!! I always leave my Volta system powered on when connecting to shore power. I do turn the breakers off until all the external connections are made. then flip the breaker on

    It was 50 amp to 30 amp ADAPTER but not CONVERTER. If yes then it is really dangerous to use it because you can brake all electronical components in your van sir. Am i correct Scott?

    • @gosmall.livelarge
      @gosmall.livelarge  2 года назад

      Ummm. The 50 to 30 AMP adapter is missing one prong which makes the conversion. No electical engineer here, but that is what I am told and have experienced personally. No issues with the adapter. Alwasy use 110 volt, NOT 240 volt. That will melt your RV ;)

    • @ZekaUSA
      @ZekaUSA 2 года назад

      @@gosmall.livelarge It was really dangerous advice because you will broke all electrical components on this way. Just easily. Sorry.

      120 I believe. Here’s an article I came across about that issue. www.rvtravel.com/a-common-expensive-mistake-when-installing-30-amp-rv-outlet-at-home/

      30 amp is 120. 50 amp is 240. What the 50 to 30 adapter does is eliminate one of the positive leads converting it to 120.
