WOW, great info video. I only have 30 amp plug, but I am going to 400 amp hours of BBB. I have (going to mount) the 3000 Victron inverter charger on it's BACK, is that going to be OK???
Does anyone know of a replacement for the smart phase transfer switch? I bought the parts one at a time, but it looks like it is no longer available . Is there another part I could use in place of it that would auto switch?
Thank you! You always have common-sense, useful, non-judgmental information. Much appreciated.
Another awesome video. You explain things in a way that is very easy to understand and follow. Thank you for all your videos.
Jered Nicely done intro. You are really good at this stuff and I really appreciate you taking the time to create content that is valuable and timely. All these systems are complicated with many decisions that need to be made to fit your instance. You explain it very clearly and best show us the actual how to. Thanks
Jared,
Thank you for this excellent video, with your help and the great folks at AM Solar, I was able to install a nearly identical system, along with four Battle Born batteries, into my Vilano 375FL fifth wheel, saving many thousands in installation costs. Great job and very much appreciated...
Had to pause this right in the middle to say that this video is amazing. Looks like i'm right on time, as well, now that you updated it! Thanks.
Jared, excellent video. I have been searching for the best way to power my entire 50 amp RV with a solar solution. Was heading down the path of installing two MultiPlus Inverter/Converters and then I saw your video. Thanks for putting this one together. Also, the list of the parts with links to Amazon is awesome.
Hands down Jared, one of the best DIY videos I've seen to date. No matter the subject matter. Keep up the great work because you are helping a lot of us get better. Thank you...
Just finished my install today, following your instructions (and updated wiring) to the letter. Can't tell you how excited I was to power it all up and see it work flawlessly!!! Now my wife won't have to watch me pore over wiring diagrams every night for hours. It was a ton of fun to do myself. The biggest challenge was fitting into my space and routing all of the cables.
Thank you so much for your diagrams and videos. Literally, couldn't have done it without you!
Just installed my Victron Multiplus 3000 using the Baomain Transfer Switch. Works perfectly to power both sides of the 50 amp breaker panel from one hot lead from the Victron. Thanks a ton for the detailed wiring diagram!
Jared. Outstanding work as always.
Best how to video I think Iv seen. I couldn’t find any other videos with the diagrams like yours. I also couldn’t find any others that cover the 50 amp upgrade. Great job.
What a great solution. I have a 50 amp Grand Design Imagine travel trailer and have been looking at the 2 inverter setup but I like this much better. Hopefully some day we can work together to make this happen.
Great video. Installed a similar setup a year ago. Used all Victron components including the MPPT solar controllers (700w on the roof and 200w suitcase). Just tied everything together with a Cerbo GX and Touch 50 color display. The guys at AM Solar and Battle Born are the best. Love your videos. Next up is tiring. The tanks the Cerbo.
Thanks much for this video. Coincidentally, this is VERY similar to the Solar setup I am currently working on. After spending around 10 hours with MS Paint, creating a system block diagram, I just happened upon this vid. Your system diagram is much more professional looking than mine - wish I had discovered your video (and system diagrams) about a week ago ! Thanks again.
Came here looking for info on victron inverter/chargers as an off grid solar installation tech.
Love your style! CLEAN, AND CONCISE.
I put mine in when I went to a new Victron Quattro 5000 and Lipos. Made things super simple.
Excellent Video, was looking for this exact system design. Thanks for putting this together.
Great video Jared. Jared helped me with my install. I decided to use the manual switch and so far it is working great. It is nice knowing we are not going to throw a breaker when are on 30 amps or less! Thanks for your help and advice.
So glad it is working for you!
Excellent seminar, well done.
I'm having our Overlander 190 watt system and 2 Sun Cycle AGM batteries installed in 3 days!
Dude, I;m trying to go to bed and instead im racking up items on my amazon wish list. Just got the RV and I already want the solar. I am gonna take your advice and get a read on how much power. All though I feel pretty confident that if i just copy your set up it will be more than enough. Lots of information, I love it.
Great video. Comprehensive, clear and helpful. Lot's of good information. Thank-you!
Jared, we have been following your videos for a while. This inverter upgrade inspired us to give it a go with a multiplus 2000 in our Grand Design 21-G Momentum. Thank you for your excellent and informative videos.
Thanks! good luck with the inverter!
This it it!!!!!! Why is this not everywhere....this is what every RV solar set should be!!!!! Great job!!!
Sigh, as with a lot of things this year, the SPS is out of stock at the moment so I'm having to go the manual switch route. Thanks for documenting that install choice.
Great video, thanks for the diagrams. I already had all the parts and had started. Now I will change some of the control wiring from the auto transfer switch. The new transfer manual switch will add some safety. Which does happen from time to time at RV parks....I really like having the diagrams to post in bay for the day something doesn"t work...Thanks.
Hi - I have watched a number of your videos and have not commented. I just wanted to thank you for such an amazing job. You really do well explaining topics that are both useful and informative. I wish you all the best and thank you for your contributions to the RV community.
Thank you for your kind words!
I'm a little slow but thanks for this video, I can play it over and over and I can even print your sample diagrams. Thank you so much.
Wow, this is exactly what I was looking for! I kept wondering how to tie everything together so the RV can still be used on normal plug-in power yet still have the battery and inverter power everything as well when not plugged in.
Great video, thanks! I'm new to RVing and your videos always seem to answer the whatever I'm thinking about.
Thank you
Been using the smart phase converter for a year. The 'quite' one. It went bad. AM solar was awesome. I had to run some directed tests. They agreed to replace it. They gave me the standard (loud) one. Then they told me they are bringing out a new quite one and when they do they will send it to me to swap back for the loaner. I have all Victron too. Good stuff. I did use some of your schematics and thank you for providing them for free.
I just wanted to say thank you very much for your great video explaining the setup, parts list was greatly appreciated, and the diagrams where of great help, I had to redraw my setup to make sure I had all parts based on my configuration and location of the panel vs onboard surge protector and the location I installed the batteries and inverter/charger. I made final connections today, and tested the system. It all works great so far, will get to do a full test in the next 2 weeks we will be camping with 30 amp service but plan on unplugging and sudo boondocking to see how long 3 100 amp hr battleborn batteries will last up.
Perfect timing for me too. I installed a MP 3000/12 myself with 400ah BB batteries and 600w solar on a 30a trailer last spring. We loved the lifestyle so much I upgraded us to a 50a fiver this past fall. I bought the SPS over the winter and have been staring at it and pondering since. Yesterday I uncovered the fiver, rubbed my hands together and started in. And this morning, I find your video. Wala! It all makes sense now. Thank you so much Jared!!
Glad it helped!
This couldn't have come at a more perfect time. I'm just now starting my Victron 3k and SPS install! I bought the full kit from AM Solar.
That's great
Thanks Jared. Love your simplicity.
Thanks
Thanks Jared. You just helped me understand my system I just got. It is amazing the way it it charging and I am very happy with the system. Super video!
Thanks!
Thanks for sharing great explanation of the 220 volt set up now I understand why people are installing the transfer switch for the 220 volt I thought for some reason it wasn't necessary because the Victron has a built in transfer switch but that's only for single phase only.
You actually made a video that really broke everything down about this system thank you very much
Such a great video! It really made me understand how it work! Thank you for that!
Thanks for sharing, while a bit pricey- it definitely simplifies inverter wiring in a 50a coach
Just what I have been looking for! I thought I was only going to be able to power half of my 50A RV unless I spent the money for 2 Victrons! This is way better.
for the price of the switch you can almost buy another multi-plus and get true 3000 watts on each leg, instead of splitting the 3000 watts in half. Plus the victrons are set up to function as true split phase. Don't waist you money on a switch that expensive and a little dangerous if it malfunctions one time.
I appreciate all your videos. Very helpful. Thank you
This was exactly what I've been looking for. Thanks!
Thanks!
Great video, great information and clearly presented. Thank you. I have been planing an upgrading my solar / electrical systems and this configuration is perfect. The only thing I would do different would be to add the Victron Cerbo GX and Cerbo GX 50 Touch Panel. (Adding one to your system would make a great followup video.)
Unfortunately since I'm retired this is way out of my price range for this entire setup for a 30 amp RV. But I find your knowledge of this subject is just amazing to a point on why you don't do this for a living ? Again your amazing !!!
Another great video,,,I had to watch it about 3 times before I started to understand it,,,,but now that I have seen it,,,I know I need it. Thanks
Thanks Fred!
this is the info i needed for my houseboat/ trying to go solar and change over to electric drive and be fuel free
I'm a electrician of 45 years planning to install this exact system and this video is exactly what I need, very concise information and diagrams and the AM Solar SPS has been the missing part I need to make it easy to use. Thanks again.
After u finish yours can u do mine plssssss
I’m in over my head. I bought the battle born batteries and the Victron 3000 multipass. Can I make it work without all the other accessories on this diagram? The SPS is out of stock I have no idea how to replace that. Do hi just replace the inverterThat I currently have with the Victron? The inverter I currently have will not charge lithium ion batteries. Please help! No service center in my area will take a customer for over two months. I’m feeling like I should send all of the stuff back. And stick with deep cycle batteries and get through the season.
@@justinmercer8141 Did you see the diagram for use with a manual switch? That could be used in place of the SPS.
@@YourFrugalFriend I didn’t see that diagram. I did buy the switch. Can you link the diagram for me? Also, am I correct in understanding the switch is to select between 30 amp and 50 amp because 30 is single phase and 50 is dual phase? My knowledge of electrical is low but I’m learning.
What are the Pros and Cons to having one 3000 inverter vs 2 on a 50 amp RV?
Jared, all always, you pulled it off again. You make the best instructive videos out there by far. Great work on this inverter setup; couldn't be explained better. Food for thoughts: It would be nice if you'd add some solar to this inverter setup...... (please! lol). Anyhow, keep up the good work!
answered my own question after watching your video a couple more times.
Awesome video thanks Jared
Great new video. I've been banging my head against the wall on the set up I wanted. I really wanted the Multiplus, but wasn't excited about a manual transfer switch. This set up and explanation have me set on the direction I'm taking my electric set up. It's going to have to be in phases, but the inverter and batteries are first. Thanks!
Smart to brake up the cost. It’s taken us over three years to build our setup.
@@AllAboutRVs which batteries do you recommend Jared? Thanks for the great videos!! You are awsome!
This is exactly what I was looking for, thanks!
Great information and perfect timing. All I need now is a zillion dollars :-)
Me too.
This, plus solar panels and controllers for them, is not hugely more than an Onan generator when buying new. It is more, but if you ever sell your RV, and most people eventually do, a used generator depreciates hugely because buyers normally doubt they have been maintained. Solar panels and lithium batteries require no maintenance and have lifespans of decades, so therefore have a higher resale value.
Total cost to install, use for 2 to 5 years, and sell will be less for solar, plus the silence means you can run it all night in a campground that has a generator curfew.
If you already have an RV with a generator, the economics are less attractive, until and unless your generator dies.
Great video and info as always. I use the Go Power IC2000, true power sharing is only on leg 1, it also has a built in transfer switch and 100 amp battery charger. Though our trailer is "50 amp" , the main part of the coach runs on 30A, which is connected to leg 1. I think the only true 50a appliance, is the battery charger of the IC2000. the second leg goes to its own dedicated circuit breaker, this runs the front bedroom AC. Anyhow thanks for the info.
You convinced me that I would certainly hire someone to set this up for me. You are very informative.
In full agreement.
@@richardkoch8752
Did you see how thick the wires are on the 50 amp install? This is no joke wiring if you are not experienced.
@@steveschlackman4503 Without a doubt this is a job for someone with RV and solar systems electrical experience. I would not trust just anyone to do it. I think maybe a call to Battleborn would be a good source of recommended experienced installers.
@@richardkoch8752
I am definitely not qualified. Whenever there is a video on these types of installations the RVer uses someone with knowledge. These are not simple installations. Battleborn batteries are not cheap. Better plan on keeping the RV for along time to get the ROI on the install.
Don't forget that wiring is being run from the roof to the control panel and the original RV controls.
Wow, a new reason to switch to solar, thanks!
Excellent video! - Thanks!!
very well explained! Great explanations
I recently used your 30A schematic to light up one leg of our 50A GD TT with 618A of SOK LiFePO4 batteries. Works so well...we're really happy and looking forward to big power when supplementing our Honda 2200 or a 30A post. Thanks for these great videos! I really appreciate your content!
How was this done? How has it been holding up after one year?
@@shem8028 How it's been holding up is excellent...it delivers expected power (capacity and watt output). How it was done is a complex question that cannot be answered here...there are many install videos available here on YT.
Hi Jarod this positive disconnect switch used in this video fused I didn’t see anything that looked like your, is there a model # that you can give me? Thank you in Advance.
Jarred you're like the mad scientist of RV'ing lol thanks for all your useful content
Thank you very much for this video. I ordered one of these inverters two days ago from a company that preprograms it for my battery set up. I was going to go with the multi +2 but believe it or not my 2000 Monaco dynasty doesn’t have enough room in that compartment considering all the other equipment in there with it. But this will do the trick and it’s a very big upgrade over my 1999 trace 2000 Square sine inverter. UPDATE: I installed it in my coach and It works great and my microwave doesn't make a nasty noise anymore when on the inverter. Thank You
Excellent Video....thank you so much.
Great information. This winter I hope to upgrade
Awesome video! Thanks....
Just found your channel.
great information for beginners hoping to put to work on the off grid installation that im going to do on my food truck
Awesome and very useful video. Thanks.
Very nicely explained and well done! Great presentation!
Thanks
This is very insightful and helpful! I have a small Lance 1995 trailer, and I've been thinking of installing an inverter (I can't believe it didn't come with one installed). I've been kicking around the idea of building a bumper-mount box with batteries, inverter, etc., that I could essentially plug the camper into as needed (and take with me if I upgrade later). I think I could use this setup for something like that-though there's the issue of the inverter running the convertor.
Thanks for being our sherpa on this mountain, sir. These are great.
They come with Converters, which confuses me because both deal w 12v/110.
sounds like it was designed to run everything on 12VDC
Excellent info !
thank you for the diagrams. I understand the system I need now.
Glad it helped
Great job on this presentation!
Really good information
Very helpful. Thanks!
Amazing man!
Very good presentation. Thanks. Havagudun Bud.
Great Videos !
Really wish all these components were in the same box. Hopefully in the next ten years someone will be smart enough to build this system a lot simpler. But overall looks easy. Thumbs up
Great video Jared! Thanks for the info.
Man to those of us in 220-240V parts of the world your amps just seem so bloody crazy!
Thanks for your very informative videos. I have just finished a nearly identical 30 amp set up this week and it's awesome! I spent several months scouring RUclips for videos that I could really understand and your videos made me a little more relaxed when I was freaking out about the complexity of it all. The connection to the distribution panel was the most mysterious part of it for me so when I started running out of time and patience I ended up paying an installer $1300 to wire it up. But I couldn't be happier now. 800 watts of solar and 300 amp hours of battle born batteries with a 60 amp solar charge controller and 3000 watt multiplus has been perfect for me so far.
Can you share what was included in that $1300? Seems awfully high for just labor on a one day job so I'm wondering what parts and materials were included in that cost?
Thx
Unfortunately $1300 was just 10 hours of labor at $130 an hour. The wires, fuse, etc were another $400ish. The labor included making custom battery cables, connection to inverter, connection to charge controller, connection to distribution panel (AC and 12v) as well as installation of shunt/battery monitor, disconnect switch, and fuse. I installed the solar panels (including wiring) and mounted the batteries, inverter, and charge controller. They had quoted me at 5 to 10 hours and it ended up taking them more than 10 hours but they only charged me for 10. It definitely is pricey and I struggled with which installer to go with. I got lower quotes and I got higher quotes but I wanted to be sure the person I went with really knew how to do it properly. Customer service and warranty was key for me considering the huge investment in components. I’m very happy with what I’ve got now! Good luck!
manyowefew1 Peace of mind sure can make expensive things worth it in the future though. Hope you enjoy the system and thx for the info.
Absolutely. It’s not just money but also safety. You’re welcome. I hope the information helps.
Looks pretty easy!
Thank you!
Amazing information
Excellent video thank you so much, I didn't know that we can actually do something like this.
I'm definitely going to hook it up it's way when I start my project 👍😉
Another great video Jared, so much information and well presented. Might I suggest you change out the Phillips set screws in the Victron with Allen setscrews like you have in the SPS. I’m sure you felt the difference in how securely you could torque them. I would also use some green Loctite on the threads. The combination of adequate torque and the Loctite would give you the confidence those connections won’t back off due to vibrations while going down the road.
never put locktite on electric connections.
Thank you great video
Gutes Video 👍😊
Thank you Jared for your information and explanation about the Smart Phase Selector. I just learn about this type of device while watching "Mountain Beaches - RV DIY SOLAR INSTALL For Off Grid Boondocking | Part 3 of 3" Thank you for sharing the diagrams so people can see how it can be installed. If I understand this device correctly, I still need to be hooked up to shore power or have a generator. Is this correct.
Good information
Thanks for laying this out so clearly. It looks pretty simple... can you come over to my house for a few days? I’ll feed you! ✌🏻🇺🇸
Great video. I was wondering how to also introduce chassis charging(from motorhome alternator) into the system. Can it simply be connected through a battery isolator to the coach batteries? Also if you have charging from the RV converter or do you even need it in this application? Thanks!
Nice job! I was looking into upgrading my little 600 watt inverter to a 3000 watt unit but wondering how to set it up on my 50 amp coach has been holding me up.
Thank you😀
looks good. I would highly recommend a mechanical interlock on those relays. if one welds in, your going to get major damage and possible fire
Thank you.👍
Excellent
Excellent Jared. I was about to suggest that AMSolar makes a smart phase selector, then there it was. Boom! I've been recommending those to 50A owners who ask about inverter installs, but I've never wired one up. Thanks. Now I can refer to this video.
Thanks Brian. It was fun getting to play with the equipment.
Love your videos too Brian! You and Jared have the most informative RV channels on YT.
Hello, I have a class A 2022 diesel that came with a very basic 100w solar system on a 2000watt inverter. I would like to upgrade into a 24v system using the setup you presented, but I have one small issue, the coach has an emergency jumper that allows me to use the house battery to jump the chassis battery in case of a emergency and I have not yet sort it out if I can still use that system with a 24v and be able to have that emergency jumper working through some sort of converter… But I love what you did. Thank you so much for presenting these options.
Awesome info! I've been looking on how I can install a 2000W inverter into my Bambi, but space is tight and adding wiring is complicated
