Bill not sure if you turned the end of the yellow plug when you put it in but that is what you need to do, then screw the ring on. Great videos you and Elisabeth do! We started our tiny camper Rpod a couple of years ago. I have learned so much just in that short time. FB has tons of groups you can join that helps you with all your needs. Very helpful. Our male connectors at the trailer were over heating from earlier tarnish. I didn't know to brighten them so next time it got worse.. needing replacement. One connector was nearly melded to the trailer plug. Now we know how to replace the RV plug receptacle and we replaced the power cord already. I'll inspect the cord in the process. Sincere Thanks!

This type of plug has been causing fires in rvs and boats for years. The wiring you removed was the safest. Keep an eye on the plug for melting. Plug is not only just plugged in, but it must be rotated.
Glad to hear that the fix was so easy and inexpensive. However, you might want to hedge your bets and take the other stabilizers in and have that pin replaced so that this doesn't happen again to any of the other ones. Take care.
Thanks Bill for this detailed vid. We need to replace the oem cord cover on our 5th wheel because the "fingers" are all broken also. We just bought a truck camper and the oem cover pins that hold it closed are broken too. It might seem pricy but you get to re-use your power cord rather than buying a new one.
I love endings after repairs that go smoothly.. nicely done and looks easy peezy. A bit tedious but an acceptable task. Btw I love that pet talking app.. my family cracked up. Now for the chickens..lolol thanks Elizabeth and Bill! God bless
Hi Bill, There is always some little thing to take care of on RV's. I kind of enjoy doing things like that. On the stabilizer jacks, when you lower you might want to set the clutch on your drill so they aren't put down with a lot of force. ( maybe you already have it set that way... just a thought ) have a great week.

Now it really looks securely fixed and you won't need to worry about the plug. I'd get the stabilizers fixed before they break, because some of us get seasick when things wobble :D But if you don't, it will be fine, and it's your RV! :D Be blessed!!!
Wire brush the threads and white grease them and see the difference on your jacks . I see that's your problem .the out side of your camper looks like mine.Thanks for the videos now I know how to change out my 30 Amp cord and it needs to be changed badly lol .
Your stabilization jacks take pressure off your wheel bearings. Making them last longer. We use the jacks during storage too. I like that power kit. Might have to get one for ours.
Very helpful and cleared up some things up about when to place the caskets and housing that is used to clamp the end of the wire that attaches to the RV. The instructions that come with the kit are not extremely clear.
I bought a 50ft extention cord off marketplace, it was supposed to be a 30amp rv 50ft extention cord, but it has welder plug ends🤦♀️ I should have looked closer. It is very heavy duty. Can I buy 30amp rv plug ends and use it as an rv extention cord?
Bill, after you have used the RV a few times, it would be a good idea to go back and re-tighten each of the conductor set screws. The cycling of the electricity tends to cause a high amperage bolted connection to loosen and could cause a hot spot connection if too loose. That is one of the reasons as an electric utility, we only used irreversible compression connections, even on copper wiring, ... JIm
Wow thank you. I like that you did it in time. That was simple. Is there a reason to not use the wiring that you pulled out and then stuffed back in the wall? Was it just too short?
I DID use the wiring I pulled out. I pulled it all the way out, cut if off (leaving just enough excess to be able to work easily), installed the plug, then push just that little bit of excess back into the trailer. Then used the piece I cut off for the extension cord by installing the other side of the plug on the piece I cut off. There was no wire waste.

But then you pushed those back in and cut the large black cord with your pocket knife. I'm wondering could i just use those or use the cord and cut off its what i need to do?
Patricia Fortune Those other wires were small (thin) wires that were part of a different electrical system. They couldn’t be used to power the trailer.
As I'm watching this video.. (we are nicely settled in a campground for 5 days).. Hubby is looking out the window, shaking his head at a travel trailer just hauled in. The driver is back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, inching his way while backing up, with the wifey directing him to the "perfect" spot. After all that, it's repeat and repeat, as he was too far from the hookups. Then more pain watching him back and forth, back and forth, back and forth on the levelling blocks.. hahahaha.
Pick up some hose clamps small enough to fit that threaded rod. One of them should work in place of the pin to raise the leveler. At least until you can get it fixed. Phil
Bill you should get the other two replaced or do it yourself it is called a role pin you can pick them up a hardware store find the size throw a couple of them in the drawer if it lets go just hammer the new one in on location. Very simple. you tube it some one can show you how to do it.
Hi Bill. Great watching your repair videos. If it’s relevant to you I was under the impression that these types of double ended electrical fittings are not allowed in Canada. I had a mind to modify my vintage rv to this type of system and was not able to get parts here.
Great video Bill. If you havent already ..please get a surge protector like the kind progressive industries makes. Campground power is the worst and it will stop spikes to your system.
You have to have a 50 amp circuit breaker, at least 10 gauge wire, and a 50amp plug. That’s more than I can tell you in a comment. If you do it wrong, you could start a fire. Hire an electrician.

Those work great for brining a generator connection into a home as well. The "Wire Clamp" on the back of the plug is called the Strain Relief.
Generally those plugs when they go in you have to turn it clock wise slightly to lock about a quarter inch or so.

I believe I got the parts at a local RV shop. I don't remember for sure, that was a number of years ago. But yes, this solution has held up.

As long as the wire is rated to 30 amps, you can put on whatever ends you want. That's basically what I did in this video.

FYI, it's a twist lock plug. When you push the plug in, twist it to the right a 1/4 turn to lock it in before you screw the retaining ring on.

I’ve watched brand new truck drivers do the same thing trying to park at a truck stop. Painful to watch! LOL

There is a storage compartment in the trailer for all of that stuff.
