Finally! I've found a purpose! It's to buy a tin whistle and use this video to learn how to play Concerning Hobbits!!! Thank you, lady! Thank you very, very much!!!
I bought a D Tin Whistle yesterday. I make Native American Flutes. I bought this Tin Whistle just to mess around with. Well, you just taught me how to play this song and I am surprised as to how amazing this inexpensive whistle sounds. Thank you for teaching a teacher. :)
Ive seen some wicked musicians do all kinds of funky stuff then they pull the plain ol tin whistle and show us how great that simple instrument can be.
you were the reason I bought a tin whistle back in 2017, after learning how to play this tune with my middle school plastic flute. I'm back here years later because I want to relearn this
Thank you! We went to Ireland this year and at 65 I bought a tin whistle! I am practicing following your instructions to surprise my family. you are very good at showing how to play.
Really beautiful instrument! I don't think western cinema would be the same without it, almost all the memorable soundtracks feature it somehow. There's just a certain longing about its sound, which really gets to the heart. God bless Ireland for sharing it to the world I'm getting one soon :)
Thanks for the video. I find learning a new song is 100 times easier breaking it into small parts then putting it all together. Most tutorials just go through the whole ting and it's easy to lose track of where you are. Easiest (best) Tin whistle tute I've run into.
I'm beginning to accept that that really is the sound of a tin whistle. I didn't even know that before. She does a good job explaining it and of course, once learned, it seems to listeners as though it was easy.
I just bought a generation tin whistle for $10! I thought it would be hard but i am amazed that I am already playing this song perfectly after watching a 10 min video! Thank you so much for posting this you are a great teacher.
I thank you very much for this video. Just bought a tin whistle and learned this melody within just 2 days. Playing whistle makes even more fun with teachers like you :) and you are also a wonderful woman!
Thank you so much, even though this was on the flute and I play the bag pipes I was still able to intercept your teachings and now I am one of the few in the world who can play this on the bag pipes as there is no music notes that I know of for this. Yet again thank you!!!
I was looking for a classical guitar version to learn and post but came upon this. Now I'm awaiting a tin whistle in the mail. Very beautiful sound. If I find a decent guitar version I'll post a video response.
I appreciate your polite and measured response, not letting yourself get sucked in to other peoples' angst. You don't see that often in youtube comments.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! You were most helpful in teaching me how to play Concerning Hobbits on the tin whistle. Hope to see more of your work!
Thank you for teaching me to play Irish flute because the next day had a music test and it was not you I was not drawn in great music test I thank you from my heart for having taught me thank you thank you thank you and thank you so much!!!!!
OMG you are awesome. That is probably one of the best online tuition I have ever got & I play guitar, harmonica, and bouzouki & have looked at lots of online tutorials, my latest addition is tin whistle, I played when I was younger and just found it again when doing some cleaning up in my childhood home. Thank you :-)
I think i may have slightly fallen in love with you while playing and replaying your tutorial. So it was a pretty good tutorial, and I totally can nail the song now. Thanks!
Folks should be aware that the tin whistle, like the recorder and ocarina, require practice to control embrasure. I find it takes a lot of practice and frustration, like all musical instruments, to master. But sounds so cool when you do it, it might be worth the effort. Just beautiful!
mvvf, I found one in my sock drawer, I'm pretty sure it's yours, don't know how it got there, but I've never owned one, so it must be yours. The little people must have placed it there after taking it from your house. Leprechaun tomfoolery again. ;)
I found my one Irish whistle where I work in a hotel at the time I didn't know what kind of whistle it was, when I got home on the fluet was this card that said original Irish whistle and this is how I ended up here. It blows my mind how this thing sounds... Just 6 holes and you can play almost everything so easily.
thank you so much for explaining how to do the ornamentations, I was getting all caught up on them when I tried to do the titanic solo but it made much more sence to me in this video!
The tin whistle, also called the penny whistle, English flageolet, Scottish penny whistle, tin flageolet, Irish whistle, feadóg stáin (or simply feadóg) and Clarke London Flageolet is a simple, six-holed woodwind instrument. It is a fipple flute, putting it in the same category as the recorder, Native American flute, and other woodwind instruments that meet such criteria. A tin whistle player is called a tin whistler or simply a whistler. The tin whistle is closely associated with Celtic music.
I commented on this about 7 years ago saying I would buy a tin flute to learn this. Surprise, I did! I bought it. And it's been untouched in my draw for 7 years.
By the way Elizabeth, your air flow and vibrato are so clean and beautiful:) I'd like to hear you play the next part though, the high trilly melody, that comes right after the part you ended on!:)
Thank you so much for uploading this video, I've always wanted to learn to play the flute and your video made me buy one. just completed the first section and this is just awesome;)
WOW AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!You're amazing at the tin whistle!
So happy with myself!! Figured this out on my own when I was 12.. saw this lonk turns out I got it 100% give or take a few trills.. I feel like a genuius XD! ..( who can't spell :( )
Amazing. I was thinking about what flute to buy (a pan flute , this one or a normal sideways flute, whatever its called) , because I need it for my music production course. This is just amazing :)
Thank you for this wonderful video. I just bought it and I'm learning this first song watching your video... Could you please add the other part of it and also the Rohan theme... Thanks for the awesome work...
Hi, cheers this was really helpful - learnt the general pattern pretty quick - you're a great instructor. One thing thought, I re-watched the original video you posted and there seemed to be more to this than what you showed here - the slow part was not included - could maybe show us the next bit ? or is it just an amalgamation of what you already shown us - if so could you explained the amalgamation ?
Isn't it amazing we have the internet to learn things like this? So cool
Finally! I've found a purpose! It's to buy a tin whistle and use this video to learn how to play Concerning Hobbits!!! Thank you, lady! Thank you very, very much!!!

I'm getting one soon :)
It's played in Ireland, but the tin whistle isn't "Irish" as such. In fact, the modern tin whistle was born in England.
I bought a tin whistle and started playing it a few years ago because of this video right here. So thanks :)
Thanks for the video.
I find learning a new song is 100 times easier breaking it into small parts then putting it all together. Most tutorials just go through the whole ting and it's easy to lose track of where you are. Easiest (best) Tin whistle tute I've run into.
