I have nothing but respect for a songwriter who can work a lyric like "Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengetti" into (believe it or not) a 4/4 rock song.
You can really hear that CS80 polyphonic aftertouch in action on the synth brass. Very expressive playing. Excellent work by David Paich and Steve Porcaro.
I have been looking for this for about 25 years now, THANK YOU!! I read something once about how immensely layered this song was and that they used something like 48 tracks - which at the time was unheard of. I’ve always wanted to hear the parts isolated. The guitars are amazing!!
Jeff Porcaro wanted to create a loop with a lot of different percussions. It was the basis of the song, and the first track recorded for the "Africa" session. Jeff and Lenny Castro created that loop track.
Beautiful! Thank you, thank you! Our 3 piece is going to try this off, and this helps immensely! Partial drums/congas, and the synths and marimba switchable in and out, all on a sequence. More rhythm on top live, as are bass/keyboard, guitar and 3 vocals. Perhaps a simple bass on the sequence to make my life easier. Exactly what we need!!!
I wasn't expecting this song to be deconstructed today but oh boy, what a good surprise, love it Could you do any song from Little Richard? I'd love to see his vocals with no instrumental
Always noticed the piano in the background, especially when it gets into the third chorus and you can hear those high notes, and afterwards in the repeated chorus when it occasionally shines through very clearly.
Finally it’s here. At least the closest we can get without hearing the real masters 😊 Well actually this has been done before with the same mix I think, but not the same separation.
I wonder why the AI/Rock Band Stems chose to do these "Guitars + Marimba + Flute Synth". Of course that's how to AI is still limited in the mid range, but the flute synth has a distinct sound and should be fairly easy pickings, no need to sully the guitar track.
This is fantastic. Deconstructing it makes some parts sounds wierd, really. I have no such imagination when making songs. Most tend to just hammer everything all the way.
If I’m not mistaken, this is from a 5.1 remaster that I don’t think band had so much to do with? You can hear it because some parts are different from OG track (the dist guitar every chorus for example). Maybe they did something with the bass too then?
@@jnielsen1956 Really good. Been playing music for 10 years and bass for 4 at that point. Passed an audition for the US Army bands at 20. Thanks for asking. Allow me to point out that Mike Hungate was 33 when this was recorded.
@@panicattackstudios Tone thin, excessive fret buzz, not what I think the record sounds like. In summery my ears have been working for 71 years. I have to tell all the voices in my head to hold it down.

I always thought he said “like a leopress” instead of “like Olympus”
9:43 The acoustic guitar riffs are awesome, but so low in the final mix. That quarter note triplet descending riff is magical.
Timmy Schmidt of this underground band known as the Eagles!
@@troyroy01, no Steve Lukather added the acoustic guitars counter to what Wikipedia says.

This is epic. I was looking for an isolated drum track for this awhile back but couldn’t find one. Thank you for all these! Truly historic
Synth + Piano + Organ is my favourite. It's so 80s
12:47 - hearing what AI did to Bobby’s elongated “I bless the rains” is perfection.

Either 48 tracks or 72 because I read somewhere that they used 3 24-track machines.
@@janekolszak6761, According to David Paich, 72 tracks. In a interview he joked they had set up their own little studio with 3. 24-track machines.

Nice, great track ..ToTo Africa 👍👍
All arranged well, beautiful, and perfect! The masterpiece!! The best of what Toto has ever done. I love this song!
All TOTO instruments are excellent and professional
The musicians
So damn sense...yet so clean. Unbelievable!!
The drum/congas were on a loop track. I never realized that until a couple of days ago

Those drums sound amazing
Excellent! Could you also deconstruct Rosanna, please?

My goodness. Such a small instrument and so glueing.

The bass at the end during phase out chorus gets me all the time.
wow. pure brilliance
As I once read, this song is so important that a continent was named after it.

That was made back when AI couldn't really separate guitars from synths. It's now possible, so I could redo it in the future.

How did you managed to clear the tracks so well?
Probably w/ "Moises" App

I thought it would be better crisper and bass less buzzy and muddy where does the tight bass come from syn multi layered?

@@limposwe This is just isolated from the main track using an AI isolation software. Hence why the quality isn't very good.
@@michaelcaplin8969Yes 👍 But it’s from that 5.1 SACD mix or whatever it’s called. Not the original track.
@@limposwe it is, but it's still AI isolated, as for example, both vocals, drums/perc, and bass will be on the center channel.

I separated the tracks as much as I could, there's no official multitracks available.
