When Italian immigrant Francesca Cabrini steps foot in America in 1889, she is greeted by disease, crime, and impoverished children living in New York's slums. Armed with a fearless spirit and a compassionate heart, Cabrini sets off on a daring mission to convince the hostile mayor to secure housing and healthcare for society's most vulnerable. Despite broken English and poor health, Cabrini leverages her entrepreneurial mind to build an empire of hope unlike anything the world had ever seen.

I just watched it. My thoughts. 1) Should be called Saint Cabrini, as that is her title. At the first least they should have called the movie 'Mother Cabrini'. 2) a lot of this movie is in Italian. It's almost a foreign language film but they do have about 50% in English. 3) At the end, they should have mentioned the miracles that got her Beautified and Canonized.

I saw this yesterday. Mother came to America the same time my family did and I knew they had it hard but never like this. A stellar performance by everyone. I truly cried from the beginning of the film to the end. Thank you St Cabrini for paving the way for us all. One doesn’t have to be an Italian or a woman or Catholic to appreciate the beauty of this film. I’m always grateful to my Grandparents for their sacrifices of wanting a better world for their grandchildren and so on that they would never know but I will never forget one moment not recognize in everything what they have done for me. I just got back from the theater and it is hands down a phenomenal, inspirational, heartwarming, beautiful film that tells the story of a nun that became the mother of orphans in a time where young immigrant children were suffering without someone to care for them. She showed them kindness, bravery, compassion, love, and kept moving forward no matter how many times life and others tried to bring her down. She fought back and kept moving forward.

The Catholic immigrants post civil war did so much that my parents, uncles, and aunts were shocked to learn that America is a Protestant, former-anticatholic nation. Growing up where I did you wouldnt know it either, tgere are many religious orders and Catholic hospitals, schools, nursing homes, etc, and so many people are Catholic you could think it was always like that. Thank you mother Cabrini and all those souls who did so much, who came here, started families, and spread the faith. Just wonderful ❤

What an excellent movie! Inspiring. The two pieces written by the reporter were exquisite. And the dialogue between Cabrini and Vittoria was a force. A little way through I was hoping for some opera, I mean, they are Italian after all, so it delivered. It did the impossible in beautifying often ugly scenery with the crisp clean cut of their habits and some clever camerawork. Not much else I can say except I wish it wasn't so linear.
It would have benefitted from a bit of impressionist stylization and clips interchanging time to remove it from documentary mode. They could have played up the Italian arts more in accompaniment. In that vein there were several sarcastically humorous quips and more of that cinematic treatment would have lended additional depth and colour. Speaking of which, the other nuns didn't exist. It was just Cabrini and Vittoria. Couldn't they have had some banter, some character? It's like we were watching a book written about Cabrini and the nuns were in the room but didn't do anything, so they became stage props. Again, linear. So the only shortfall was in editing and lapses in imagination. It tried, with the water scenes, that ever-present murky window, and the dumping of the well mud on the table. More of that.
She was sick, so instead of showing her being sick we could have experienced her perspective a little more. What was her thought process? Why was she as she was? It often is easier for the nuns to come from green pastures to the ugly ghetto because they still hold the pastures in their minds. They also respect themselves and expect that from life. Vittoria had been worn down, as were most of them after time, so their views needed refreshed by her vision. And every warrior needs a rousing tune.

Wow! Being Italian, I grew up knowing about her. I can’t believe people made a movie about her. I’m surprised I’m not the only person in the country who went to see it. Nobody in this country thinks Italian stories are even worthy of being told.
Italians were considered the rats of society even in the 1960s, when my dad immigrated to NYC. In the 90s, the US government declared that Italians were no longer Latin (even though Italians ARE considered Latin in ALL other areas of the world, including in Hispanic countries). The United States politicians decided that Italians weren’t worth pandering to because they don’t all think the same, so you can’t “win the Italian vote” because Italians don’t mostly vote the same way..so they kicked Italians out of the “Latin” group and pandered to Hispanics instead. Hispanic was the new “Latin.” So Italians went from rats to “Italians don’t exist because pandering to them won’t win me enough votes.” Either way, Italians are forgotten. People in the US don’t care about Italians AT ALL or what happened to them. Unfortunately, it’s still the case today. I hope more people see this movie.

Father Mulligan (later Monsignor Mulligan) spoke about Mother Cabrini in his homily rotation, regularly in the 70's. His knowledge of history and his gift to tell a story with color, calmness and clarity belied his intent...to draw the listener in, open the heart and allow empathy and compassion to flow (a trifecta of the Trinity). I am really pleased to see a film made to share the story with a wider audience.

I’m so excited to see this movie! As a catholic, I’m vaguely familiar with Mother Cabrini’s life, but I’m so glad that have finally decided to adapt it into a story. It’s also very cool to see great talents such as Morse and Lithgow. I’m very happy for the success of Angel Studios and I hope this becomes another smash hit!

Sister Cabrini deserves better than the Hollywood treatment. This movie is about progressivism rather than what Sister Cabrini stood for and fought for. Just because a movie covers the topic of a woman of faith, doesn't mean the movie stands on the side of God.

    Earlier today,
I saw the Cabrini movie myself and one of the things that stunned and shocked me was that she did was helping Italian immigrants come into New York and make them feel welcome and accepted and despite the upper class people saying no to her, she didn't take no for an answer at all. And there were some people who said that she was doing a good thing for the immigrants and there were others who said that she was completely insane. But despite the opposition she faced, she didn't back down from her mission and kept on doing it until she died. And now she's canonized Saint, God is very impressed with her and her hard work she did. And how many stars would I give the movie? A five. Because it was worth watching.

Yeah. The problem nowadays is we aren't getting the Cabrini's. From other countries we're getting the Chapos, Richard Ramirez etc

I saw the film on opening night and it was fantastic! Such a beautiful, heartwarming story that I had never heard of. Her legacy should be taught in every school around the world. She is a true example of a "good" person.

The currently lone priest trying to keep my church alive is usually critical of the distractions of popular culture, so I was very surprised when he not only sent an email but interjected three times into his St. Patrick's Day Mass his admiration for this movie. I thought it might simply be a serviceable by-the-numbers biopic, and in many ways, it is. It is perhaps too straightforward and unnuanced for its own good. Yet it was absolutely determined to get my respect, and it did. For one thing, it is beautiful to simply watch. The photography, set design, production value -- if nothing else, it is a kind of wonderful time machine. The acting is adequate, and the writing is at times shockingly good. I do worry a bit about any "agenda" with this movie. I see that Glenn Beck calls it a "miracle of a movie." I agree with Beck about almost nothing -- but then, even a busted clock can be right twice a day. Agenda or not, the movie is good. How good? I would call it better than Scorsese's Gangs of New York, and I don't say that lightly. Know what you're getting into before you see this, but if you accept that, you will like it. I only wish I could go see it again.

These guys (Angel Studios) have got a hit here. Such a moving, beautiful story. The sets, superbly and meticulously crafted, ranging from the 5 Point N. Y. slums to the opulence of the Vatican. There is none of the overdone green screen feel, just raw and real. But what really got me was the music. Oh My,.. It was so emotionally moving and appropriate. I do believe I'll get the sound track and steep myself in it. No rock and roll here, simply Italian beauty. I've never been a big fan of opera, but its usage in this film is stunning.
