    Summer a little trick, on smoothing out a bead of caulk. Take a glass of Water with dish soap. Then use a kitchen teaspoon, deep in the water. Use the back of it, and run it along the bead of caulk.

    don't forget to take up the carpet tack strip along your walls. Those beautiful hardwood floors that were under the living room carpet are just awesome!!

  • @shawnengstrom3906
    @shawnengstrom3906 3 года назад +4

    Summer, next time when caulking forget the tape and instead use a soapy water mixture. After applying a strip of caulk mist it with the soapy water and smooth with your finger. It will turn out perfect and go much faster and also save you on the cost of tape. Side benefit is caulk won't stick to your finger either. Trust me, this is a far better method and you can thank me later.😊

    Looking so good, Summer! I love all the bright walls. You paint like I do, more on me than on the walls! lol My husband teases me about it all the time. In one of the homes I used to live in I just hated the ugly old carpet but my husband didn't agree to pulling it out. So one day when he wasn't around I pulled it out by myself and there it was out in the front yard when he came home. Beautiful oak floors underneath!

    You need to use a smaller nap roller when you’re doing the ceilings. And make sure use a high-quality paint. I’ve painted Ceilings many times. I painted my whole cathedral ceiling in my house with a pool ruler and never covered up one piece of furniture or carpet.

  • @Stephen_A.
    @Stephen_A. 3 года назад +20

    You needed a longer paint pole to do the ceiling so the roller was always in front of you instead of over you. 🙂

    • @clementclarisseclemen3d708
      @clementclarisseclemen3d708 3 года назад +1

      Even with just this one, always use it in front, not above the head, it's less tiring for head, eyes and arms (tip: painting by going backward not only avoid hair get painted, but it allow to progress on all the ceiling (as long as you walk with a proper pattern))

    Hi Summer.I just want to say you're doing an amazing job.Also, if you are going to paint any other rooms,you may want to wash your walls with TSP. It can be purchased at Wal-Mart, Home depot etc..It's price point is around $7.00.The bag or box will last for a long time and it is the best solution for washing many things.

    Wow Summer...the room looks amazing after you and your mom painted it! We need to paint our family room (and some other rooms) so badly, but in the family room there are several places on the ceiling and walls that need to be repaired first. Had some ceiling leaks before we got a new roof for one thing. We have high ceilings in that room so will probably have to hire that out.

    Summer, a while ago in a video where someone was doing some caulking someone in the comments said they were a contractor in construction for many years and said that we shouldn’t use our fingers to smooth out the caulking ( which I always have for years) because there are oils in our skin that come out and that will make the caulking break down faster and need replacing faster than if you used the little tool you can get for like a buck at most hardware/ home improvement stores. Just passing it along, since then I’ve mentioned it a few times here and there and I usually get a few contractor/carpenters chime in that this in fact true.

    Are you keeping the color in the Kitchen? If so you might consider tieing that color into the ling room area by painting it on the trim or by using the color as an accent somehow. With open-concept rooms, I think that using the same colors differently in rooms ties it all together.

    There is a sort of really cheap plastic tool that you can get to clean up caulk. The one I'm thinking of is a sort of rectangular box shape that has an angle on one end and the other end you can put a finger in if you want. Or not. You just run it around where your fresh caulk is and it makes a perfect corner. When I bought mine years ago it was less than a dollar. No taping. You just put one side against the wall. Zip, you're done.
    Also, you're going to want some color in there in a while.
