my favorite Ronstadt song. Worked at a radio station in 1972-73 that had the single. Used to play it on the radio. Still kicking myself for not taking the 45 with me when I left the station.
Linda promoted a Sunset Strip band called The Merry Go Round with lead singer Emitt Rhodes. This song was their first single in the Fall of '67. Linda released this version in early '71. Emitt put out at least 3 solo albums. He's one of the best singer-songwriters of the 70's but was unfortunately neglected. Worth checking out for sure.
You prolly dont care but if you're stoned like me during the covid times you can stream pretty much all of the new series on Instaflixxer. Been streaming with my brother lately :)
I heard this single on KIMN in Denver in 1971, and ran out to buy it. Learned about the Merry Go Round and Emitt Rhodes later. Wonderful, haunting song.
I saw her on CBS Sunday news. She now has Parkinson’s. Still a beautiful beautiful soul. I could listen to her music forever. Wish I had met her as a friend. I admire her soul, then and now
On this day in 1969 {May 3rd} Linda Ronstadt performed "The Long Way Around" on Dick Clark's ABC-TV Saturday-afternoon program 'American Bandstand'... The song was track six from her first solo album, 'Hand Sown...Home Grown'... Two years later in January 1971 her "(She's A) Very Lonely Woman" entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart, it peaked at #70 and the record's B-side was "The Long Way Around"... May God bless and watch over Ms. Ronstadt...
very very very lovely woman is you linda with your beautiful beautiful beautiful absolutely wonderful voice of yours love you so so so much stay gold baby peace everybody.
Two Linda Ronstadt CDs that have become rare are Hand Sewn, Home Grown and Silk Purse. However there is now a single CD that has both albums, since both of the vinyl albums fit on one CD, with space left over. They added She's a Very Lovely Woman to the collection. I got a copy from Amazon.
I , too, have been looking for this record for FORTY PLUS YEARS! I kinda gave up about 7-8 years ago...did a search for it and YES!!!!! This recording has been burned into my mind since I was a kid...So...I wondered what year. I was thinking '68-'69, but yeah, '71 would have fit PERFECTLY! THANK YOU THANK YOU! THANK YOU!!!!!
It was added as a bonus track on the Australian CD issue of her first two Capitol Records solo albums in 2009 but that disc now commands a very high price on the market.
I checked out the CDs mentioned in the comments on Amazon & didn't see this song listed on them. Somebody said it was a bonus track on a 2009 CD from Australia but apparently it's out of print. So apparently it again is not on any LP or CD.
First time I'm hearing this. WHY is this NOT on Linda's four-disc box set, OR the "Capitol Years" with her first four Capitol albums on two discs. Terrible call to skip a song like this, her first A/C charter at #17 in 1971. I just ordered the Raven "Hand Sown.../ Silk Purse" disc released in 2009 by Raven from an Amazon dealer, with this as a bonus track. The ONLY disc it apparently has EVER appeared on CD.
hello chuck,I totally agree with you, when this 45 came out ,in march 71,it was getting a lot of air play in the ny area,wabc,wplj-fm,I could not find it anyware, goodys, korvette, gimbals, you name it,I never have seen it at any record conventions,,or any sheet music,I knew it would not be on that box set of 4cds,and when the capitol years came out ,I said it wouldnt be there, and I was right,it should have been on the different drum,LP,in 74 and on the retrospective,2lp,in 1978,when the last LP,in 1972 came out would have been the first logical choice, the stereo mix ,if any were done, has not been out,the 45 says stereo, but its mono, there could have been a promo made ,never seen it,there may have been some legal issiue with this song,I wrote the publisher in the 90s,never got a reply,I hope they put out a essential,2cd set with the mono& new stereo mix,the different drum un edited stereo mix,45 mono mix& other takes, with false starts of these tracks, blue bayou in spanish,, capiot should release the stone ponys lps with the mono& stereo mixes,,with diff drum tracks as i suggested above, with recording session info, original label, and also the solo lps, hand sown, silk purse,,LR
@@daninflorida1 It makes perfect sense for this to have come out in '71...that was a HUGE year for me discovering music. I'd heard "Different Drum", and "Long Long Time", but when I saw her do this on TV, it hit this 11-12 year old kid hard! The fact that they NEVER put it on ANY album has always perplexed me, as well. I'd love to hear the whole story behind WHY this song "Disappeared"!
I recall recording the entire first solo album onto cassette. It was played on KLOS or KMET in LA. As McCartney had done, Emit Rhodes played every instrument and did all the vocals (I think Linda might have done a little on Paul's, now that I think of it). Not every song is great, but, it's a worthwhile listen.

Linda, she's a very loved woman that's for sure!
One of my favorite songs that I’ve looked for for years! Thank you for posting it and thank you to my Music Guru, Hanna, for finding it!!! ❤

'Live' was their first single and this was their second release,.....
Agree 100% it should have been a bigger hit this was her second solo single after a long long time I love this song

Hauntingly beautiful song

Yes I felt the same way about the Emitt Rhodes version, which haunted me all these years.
@@usheilan8713 I purchased this single in 1971 and wore it out. Nice to have a digital file.
@@michaelstultz7045 Yes... Classic well written music never gets old!
I've never heard this before. Thank you!
You may want to hear the original from 1967 by “The Merry-Go Round” written and sung by Emmit Rhodes.
@@johnmabary Yes, I have listened to that as well. It's a really unusual and interesting song.
This is such a great song. Merry Go Round thought it could not be done better but Linda rocked it.

silk purse is my favorite Ronstadt album! i still have it.
So they DID add it? Fantastic!
Its Raven label, an Australian release.

In 1967 Emitt Rhodes with “The Merry-Go Round” did the original version. LR stayed true to the original much to her credit.
Oh Wow. That was amazing. What CD is it on? I want !!!! I hope Linda realizes how much she has given the world ...

Listen to Emitt Rhodes with “The Merry-Go Round” from 1867 to hear the original!
It won’t let me correct to “1967.’

Chuck Clough I’ve been trying to find this as well, I remember it from my high school days. Thanks for the info on where to find it.
Coolest Lady !
Like this? Try listening to Emitt Rhodes (the writer o f this song)..... Genius.

This song has a Jefferson Airplane vibe to it.
True

what session players? on this EMITT song
The Swampers.
Don Henley was in her band in spring 1971..?
Linda and the future Eagles came to Muscle Shoals ALAbama in 9teen 71. She Recorded, very lovely woman.
honestly i think this song is a lesbian anthem
yes even when emitt sings it
No, it's an anti-cheating song. Listen again.
