LAN! I am LOVING these “no longer buying” vids!! This is the kind of influencing the world needs. More intentional ownership of all the stuff …it’s just a beautiful way to live!! Thank you!!! PS my cats have loved hearing Meryl the last three vlogs 🤣
I love these videos, every time I scroll through social media i find myself buying or wanting to buy stuff that I don’t necessarily need . The amounts of money that we sometimes spend on products that we were influenced to buy over along periods of time can be saved or invested in other areas of our lives on stuff we truly need.
appreciate that you included hair perfumes as part of the " no longer buying ", in a way to tell us that you see & can feel pressured to try them even though it doesnt make sense to you. Its good to stand strongly on how you feel! and to encourage all of us to do so too, with conviction.
I adore this series - I wish more people would think critically about our consumer culture and have the humility like you to self-critique! It's something I'm guilty of and have been working to set limits for myself to keep from over-consuming. Like - who really uses hair perfume??? Isn't that what my normal perfume is already for?! Thank you for saying it!
Also consider that if you were given more time to shop for a dress code you'd be able to be more selective and find items that you like and may actually wear again, instead of having to buy whatever items you can find at the last minute to satisfy said dress code. ✨
Thanks for focusing on less, minimal skincare, streamlined makeup. We need more of this content and you can influence people to stay focused and use what we already have. Cheers!
Your content lately has been fantastic! Between hot girl winter, fitness, lifestyle, vlogs, and sprinkling in beauty bits- I don’t miss a single video ❤
Absolutely love these kinds of videos. We all need to consume less and use what we actually have. I am the same with the lingerie. It has just never been for me and I’ve forced myself to buy and wear and was so uncomfortable. I don’t wear it anymore and my husband thinks I’m sexier than ever. You just do you.
I appreciate these videos so much! Not only they point out at specifics we def dont need but also seeds that idea of less consumism so we can learn again how to think twice before buying. Its great education and we love it coming from you ❤
The way that I felt so seen when you said you often think of the opening scene of TDWP. It truly fueled an unnecessary obsession with very pricey pricey lingerie purchases that did not serve me at alllll. Love this love you!
Really love these videos! I’m very much on the same journey right now. Use stuff up and simplify. Also got stuck into the lingerie pressure! Can I just say I love love love your look here, and lately. So fresh and natural. I love your simple makeup, your darker hair, and that green is stunning on you! The nails look pretty too. You’re just all around winning life!
On the topic of mascaras if you get to where you need a new one…. 100% try the Thrive cosmetics one! It’s not waterproof but if lasts ALL day (I train Brazilian jujitsu this lasts through a 2 1/2 class with no smudges) BUT then when I go to wash it off it comes right off with a little cleanser and warm water. Been using it solely for 3 years now!
👏👏 ❤ this series!! While every category may not speak to each followers’ wants/lifestyle, it encourages us all to take a look at the un-/underused items in our cabinets and closets, and streamline where we invest our 💰. Thank you✨
For 2024 im trying to go on a no-buy/low buy on makeup products and I’m proud to say I’ve almost made it to the end of January! This video and the last one really helps me keep motivated! ❤
there's definitely a shift in mindset re consumerism in 2024, at least for me ... the jumping to own everything & ultimately hoarding mindset is tired and so i'm so appreciative of these videos/ further encouragement.
I used to work for a clothing rental company. I always made sure to only rent the newest items because BO eventually gets stuck in all the clothes…especially the formal dresses. 🥴
Love love LOVE that you’re being more conscious of what you have. I hope this is a trend for 2024 for beauty! I know this isn’t new, but in an age of hyper consumerism, it’s easy to get distracted. Social media really ramped up the buy it or your life suck aspect of marketing!
“If you watched the first one of these…” I WATCH YOU RELIGIOUSLY AND LOOOOOVE THIS SERIES!!! Thank you for “deinfluencing” us because it’s what our world needs right now. Less waste and we need to hear it from those we trust and follow. LOL Not The Devil Wears Prada opening sceneeee -GIRL- THAT is my Roman Empire!!!! Suddenly I seeeeee… 😊❤ There was nothing more I wanted as a teen than to be one of those baddies kissing their boyfriends goodbye in the morning as they head to the city for their baddie careers… I am now here… and all I want is my granny panties and chapstick like Anne Hathaway. I love you, keep doing what you’re doing. XX ❤
Yes! Thank you! I see all the declutter videos, that I used to love, and I see drawers and drawers of products that will end up almost new in the trash because there’s no way someone can use that much. Hopefully this is a trend. I remember buying so many blushes, bronzers, etc, because I saw them in RUclips and “I had to have them”. Now I know, I need basically one of each thing I use, not more, as a regular person, I’m not an influencer, but watching these videos reminds me of that.
YESSSSS to all of this! I am so sick of all “the ONLY (insert somewhat useless and likely frivolous item of your choice) YOU NEED this winter” nonsense… NO. As a privileged white woman, I actually don’t NEED anything more than what I already have. We can still WANT things for sure, but the false sense of need and urgency must stop. So thank you for this! Loving the chocolate nails and luscious locks btw!
Its amazing to watch these vídeos. And realise how we have to adapt any content to our reality. Im brazilian, whaterproof mascara is a must in summer, cream contour just melts... this is great to think critically where we are spending ouro money! Great vídeos!
I feel the same way. I am doing a massive new years clear out and I've put so many of my "once worn" or even never worn clothing items on Ebay. Pretty much all of them I was influenced to buy. It's standard to get about a third back of what you paid. This painful lesson is teaching me to think long and hard before adding anything to my wardrobe; and just because it looked amazing on (insert influencers name) doesn't mean that it will suit me.
Waterproof mascara is the worst! I am not sure if you have tried fractionated coconut oil for mascara removal. You need to be careful but it works wonders. I have used it for years. Thanks for all your beautiful videos!
So agree with the heavy fragranced creams and items! They give me horrific migraines while also being terrible for you and being so bad for your hormones and yada yada.
I think this is a valuable message/video especially in our current world of conspicuous consumption. The exact items may vary, but being more mindful about spending patterns is always a smart move. I used to purchase items from Ulta or Sephora just for the sake of the rewards programs. So ridiculous when you think about it, and so many unnecessary purchases! Like makeup is that important in the big scheme of my life? It makes me cringe thinking about it now.
Okay but that metallic jacket is BEAUTIFUL! You need to incorporate it into your wardrobe! A crisp jean, white tee, your white jimmy choo heels and that jacket… chefs kiss!
9:28 loveeee the idea of renting items for specific/special occasions. The issue for me is the sizing. Being 6’ and sizing varying sooo much in women’s clothing means I can fit a 12/14/16 depending on brand 😂
Oooh I would love to see a comparison vid (or series!?) of different clothing rental companies - Nuuly?? Rent the Runway? I live in the US, so I don’t really know if these ship to Canada!
Thank you for calling out Devil Wears Prada for that especially potent pre-work scene where all the “it-girls” were putting on Saturday night lingerie under their Monday work clothes, and counting 6 almonds as breakfast and other such insanity! Love the actors, hate most of the messages in that one
Omg!!! I soo agree with u specially lingerie!!! And bronzers. I watch influencers and I go run and buy things I never worn or used. I m soo done too. ❤ thank u😘😘❤️
I think the reason why we can pretty much contour with bronzer (as KJH said you can countour with bronzer but not necesserily viceversa😉) is that even 4-5 years bronzers were SO warm but these days that are a lot of nice neutral-tone bronzers.
I think it’s great you’re trying to use what you have and buy less, we should all be doing this rather than just buying the newest thing out that’s really the same as what we have, it’s for this reason I prefer to watch grwm videos, rarely do I watch reviews as I don’t need more makeup products. Love your videos.
You recommended the unscented Lubriderm body lotion in the past and i've been hooked ever since. Its actually the only lotion that I have ever emptied and have continued to repurchase. So thank you for that!! Love these vids!
Loving this series! Also so interesting about the clothing renting options/lack thereof in Canada! I was totally going to suggest that for the random event dresscodes!
Lubriderm fragrance free advanced therapy for extra dry skin in the maroon labled bottle (DO NOT get the one with ceramides since you don't like the white cast) It has no white residue, very moisturizing, absorbs quickly. It has saved this 41 year olds hypothyroid, very dry, even in summer skin lol. I also slimmed down my makeup to only MERIT products. They are fabulous and do not sit in fine lines and make me look glowy. I can't recommend MERIT enough.
I have recently added a powder contour product in my collection (hello, very inexpensive Essence contour palette) and I LOVE IT! But I especially use it for a quick eye shadow, as you do with powder bronzer. I love it for my everyday makeup routine! I’m with you on waterproof mascara, though.
Yes, a part 3 would be amazing. I love where you are taking this channel, HGW and all the rest. You mentioned finances recently and while I totally understand that it’s a very personal subject you don’t want to share on the internet for obvious reasons, I think a video with general tips and insights would be great if you decide to make one.
I just bagged up a bunch of stuff that wasn’t a hit for me and going to sell it on kiji as a gently used makeup grab bag! Why not! Feels great to organize!
I have very dry and very sensitive and I’m really grateful to you for always sharing just the right products for my skin type. You have saved my skin so much. And yeah I agree with waterproof and anything-proof products. It caused the same problem to me and I just gave up on them 😂 anyway thank you so much Allana and love you ❤
I decided to stop trying to make bronzer/contour work for me. I don’t know if it is my skin tone but I’ve tried so many and it’s just not good. Blushes that are more natural/neutral shades just look so much better on me than bronzer and blush! ☺️
Waterproof mascara - never bought one never going to! To me, night time skin care routine is something that should be enjoyable and relaxing. Trying to get of mascara for 15 minutes doesn’t fit in with relaxing and enjoyable! 💕
I switched to the hourglass tubing mascara at the beginning of last year and I will neverrrr look back 😂😅 so so easy to remove. I’m also on board with the heavily scented body products being out! I’d rather wear my perfumes and let them shine anyway.
Toootally agree on the hair perfume thing! As in, WHY is it a thing?!?😆 I am actually sensitive to scents and have been wearing the same scent that doesn't bother me for years now, and even that, I spray above me, not directly onto my skin. So most of the droplets fall onto my hair anyway! 😁 Definitely don't understand the hype and need for hair perfumes🤷♀ Oh, and renting special outfits is definitely the way to go! Where I come from originally, my home country, renting out dresses is a huge industry, actually. The selection is always massive: styles, colours, length - anything your heart desires☺👌 Not sure how we're doing on that front here in Canada.. But I would imagine Van and Toronto would have, at least, some options?
I love these!! Im really curious to understand the dynamic between brands reaching out to do things, now that you have a firm stance on de-influencing.
Can we not live in the middle? I still love soooo many products and work with so many brands! But it’s nice to highlight things that we don’t use sometimes too 😂
not to try and influence you or anything ;), but instead of working your way through all of your backlog products, you can always give some of those abundant products away in a buy-nothing group or on freecycle! You can reduce your inventory, make sure it'll get used by someone who wants it (and save them a purchase), and build a stronger sense of community in your local area!
Hair perfume is a no but what I do is, spray my normal perfume into my brush and brush it through my hair instead, read that tip years ago and been doing it since xx
Oooo lovely tip!! I fear that it would dry out my hair haha but I also heard a tip once to spray it on the back of your neck and it gives the same feeeeel!
YES OMG in college I would spend 100s of dollars on lingerie and lacey undies smh BUT NOW YES SEAMLESS UNDIES FTW. me in my 30s it’s all about comfort. Because lace is NOT breathable or comfortable and they show under leggings 💀💀💀
I feel seen when I watch this. It’s just simplying your life and taking out everything that’s been shoved down our throats for decades. Live them empowers me to say no. Except for an ours ring you influenced me on that and I love it. Now I can show my husband and stressed I am 😅
Holy crap i have been here since you were raving AND OBSESSING about that Kevin powder! I actually bought it because of you lol but i agree i dont use them either! I also agree with the HG Face palettes! I used to collect them and decided not to buy the limited version last year because I haven’t finished the one that i still have. It’s not necessary
The only way I ever wear waterproof mascara is on top of regular mascara... it makes it so much easier to remove at the end of the night since the regular Mascara is what's attached to your lashes
One million percent so much yes to your explanation on pressure to buy & wear lingerie it is so uncomfortable that i can't even think about anything else when it's on other than ripping it off
wow its crazy how we are all going through different journeys. bc of so much travel ive become super minimalist for the past 10 years ive owned very few things. think noahs ark, two of each and we are good LOL. i cycle through phases - seasonal for instance, but basically 2 luggage bags. i only recently bought lingerie but i am very - idk sometimes i wonder if i have aspergers bc i feel very sensitive to textures etc and every time i buy new clothes i even check online to make sure its exactly the same percentage of each material if it feels good - i only ever wear seamless thongs LOL for years and its always been the same color- only lingerie for special occasions this year as it was my new years resolution to be more feminine and definitely not under my clothes. ive only recently started watching beauty videos and i didnt even wear make up besides lipstick and mascara for two years- i only started again last year going to SALONS to get it done for SPECIAL OCCASIONS - and recently was even thinking of taking a trip to sephora to buy everything i need. this video freaked me out and made me think to myself - wait am i alreaady on the right path? i dont have scented lotions since high school and im 32 now. i once heard a quote somewhere : whatever you are doing now - do the opposite? like if you usually talk a lot, talk less. and i wonder if in this case, since i have a very minimalist lifestyle i should buy more and for you the opposite? this video just confused me since i was ready to go on a shopping spree as i thought i was doing something wrong or boring.
"dan doesn't care" LOOOOLLL omg amen. I mean, sure they can be fun, but absolutely NOT NEEDED. I've never owned a complete set, I just dont have the tiiiiime hahahah give me 100% organic cotton all day every day.
I was so excited thinking Dior brought back their Backstage Contour palette from your thumbnail. 💔 the light matte contour is the perfect neutral in between contour/bronzer for my complexion. I also love using the dark highlight as an eyeshadow.
I’m one of your older viewers (65) and I can relate to not wanting to bring more stuff into my life. There are 3 Stages of Stuff: Wanting Stuff, Accumulating Stuff and Getting Rid of Stuff. I’m at the Getting Rid of stage. Very freeing!
OK I have been meaning to comment this for sometime now. I recently developed an allergy to fragrance. Specifically limonene and linalool which I only found out from taking the allergy patch test. You have mentioned having sensitivity to fragrance and you might be allergic to a specific chemical compound like I am that if you know what it is, might help you avoid it. Unfortunately for me, these are both in so many products so I mostly have to use stuff that is for people who have eczema.
Thanks for the video, I agree on many things but to me waterproof mascara is the only one to use. I have very straight lashes and I need to use curler every day. If I use regular mascara the curls are gone in a minute and I have straight lashes that scratch my eyeglasses. Waterproof mascara is the only type that makes the curl last. So, for some of us all other mascaras are waste of time and money.
Totally agree with you. Perfume for hair? Purely marketing. Most of these have a lot of alcohol and totally ruin your hair. I know because years ago i bought a chanel hair perfume. Sure it smelt nice but was sooooooooooo expensive and started to damage my hair. Lingerie, have completely stopped buying ridiculous 'cute, fun' colours. Basic colours is what i love. If i feel like a bit of lace, sure i'll buy it. Not because someone tells me I need it. So great you're doing this vid cause i think a lot of younger ladies and men buy stuff they really really don't need.
If you’re ever in Kelowna (not far from Vancouver) there’s an awesome clothing rental place called House of Espy! Incredible party dresses, accessories, etc…
I use tubing mascara, comes off with warm water and is sweat proof, so many non-waterproof mascaras just end up giving me Panda-eyes....and nobody wants that!! And lucky you if you don't need a bra, I'd have 2 black eyes!!😂😂 and I like a little matching lacy set for going out, but yeah, comfy bra and cotton knickers for every day 😊❤
LAN! I am LOVING these “no longer buying” vids!! This is the kind of influencing the world needs. More intentional ownership of all the stuff …it’s just a beautiful way to live!! Thank you!!! PS my cats have loved hearing Meryl the last three vlogs 🤣
Yes please more!
I feel you gradually shifting to a minimalism mind set and I am so here for it!
I think I love shopping way too much to ever go head first into the minimalism life hahaa but we can certainly condense 😅
@@allanaramaa✨condensalism✨
I love this deinfluencing video era! We all need to stop consuming so much and really appreciate what we have 🤩 it just makes life richer🤩💕
I love these videos, every time I scroll through social media i find myself buying or wanting to buy stuff that I don’t necessarily need .

Your hair looks so good!
I like the embrace of natural color!
Love this deinfluencing series! I'm also so proud of myself walking into Zara and coming out with NOTHING. Let's save some money this year girls!!!!
appreciate that you included hair perfumes as part of the " no longer buying ", in a way to tell us that you see & can feel pressured to try them even though it doesnt make sense to you.

Great video and initiative, Allana. We ALL need to stop buying everything we see and DONT need. It doesn’t make us happier and it ruins the planet.

I love Rent the Runway! It’s one of the only rentals I’ve used but every time I need something I’ve loved having that as an option
The answer to waterproof mascara has been tubing mascara for me!
Appreciate your shift to simplifying your life and being open about it!
Thank you for calling out Devil Wears Prada for that especially potent pre-work scene where all the “it-girls” were putting on Saturday night lingerie under their Monday work clothes, and counting 6 almonds as breakfast and other such insanity! Love the actors, hate most of the messages in that one

I love your "real" presentations! Many thanks. ❤
I have very dry and very sensitive and I’m really grateful to you for always sharing just the right products for my skin type. You have saved my skin so much. And yeah I agree with waterproof and anything-proof products. It caused the same problem to me and I just gave up on them 😂 anyway thank you so much Allana and love you ❤
I’m right with you for skipping scented lotions. I can’t use those or heavily scented body wash, or my legs get so itchy.

Love this new minimalist approach
not to try and influence you or anything ;), but instead of working your way through all of your backlog products, you can always give some of those abundant products away in a buy-nothing group or on freecycle!
Pleaseeeeee part 3!! ❤
AHH ... SO HAPPY SEE YOU GROW AND EVOLVE OVER TIME!!!!!
Love this idea, it is so true! Also love your hair!!!
Thank you for sharing this change in you. You’re growing up!
Your hair with that green sweater 🔥🔥
I was so excited thinking Dior brought back their Backstage Contour palette from your thumbnail. 💔 the light matte contour is the perfect neutral in between contour/bronzer for my complexion. I also love using the dark highlight as an eyeshadow.
ive been loving these videos!
Clinique cleansing balm-Take the day off, removes mascara well!
I use hair perfume!! I work in healthcare. It’s a nice light way to wear fragrance.
Love the minty green sweater! Thinking about getting one. Is it in Lime Sherbet?
I love this new approach. The constant hauls and unnecessary products are so out. In with the less is more vibe.
You look beautiful!! Your hair looks amazing ❤
If you’re ever in Kelowna (not far from Vancouver) there’s an awesome clothing rental place called House of Espy! Incredible party dresses, accessories, etc…
What is the alternative for non waterproof mascara that doesn't smudge or transfer? Any product reco?
Your style of presentation is very nice and your products are very good
I use tubing mascara, comes off with warm water and is sweat proof, so many non-waterproof mascaras just end up giving me Panda-eyes....and nobody wants that!! And lucky you if you don't need a bra, I'd have 2 black eyes!!😂😂 and I like a little matching lacy set for going out, but yeah, comfy bra and cotton knickers for every day 😊❤
Please make a video of your updated makeup routine after this video❤
I am so here for these videos!
That color looks beautiful on you!
Allana this is a great series helping us all to think about purchasing things that we do not need. Thank you
