Learn how to play Little Wing, as performed by Jimi Hendrix released on the Axis Bold as Love album in 1968. The song was recorded in October of 1967.
The lesson covers the great intro riff, what he does during the 2 verses, and then of course the guitar solo section. The song basically has one single chord progression that Jimi
plays through 4 times (+ a little more during fade out). First time is the intro, second and third times are the verses, and the fourth + time is the guitar solo. No bridge section or
different chorus section or anything like that. Just one great chord progression repeated where he improvises over each time with his "Jimi-isms".
My signal chain in this video was my '85 Strat into a Boss GE-7 EQ (pulled mids down slightly), New Instruments Ventillator II (Leslie/rotary speaker pedal), added MXR Phase 90 on solo, split into stereo signal out to a '64 Super Reverb (4x10 jensens) and a 1963 Fender Bassman (2x12 Oxfords). I have affiliate links below if you are interested in picking up any of those
    pieces through Sweetwater.
Not that I can perfectly replicate Jimi's sound at all, but I like the mix of the 10s and 12s between those 2 amps, and I think it all comes reasonably close.
Also - I wanted to give a shout out to 3 other RUclips videos on Little Wing that are definitely worth a watch, check them out.

Wow , what a great lesson on playing Little Wing. My first hearing of this song was on a Hendrix vinal LP called 'Hendrix in the West' released in the mid 70's. a collection of live recordings, its a rear gem. The Little wing recording started out pretty mush as the studio recording but without that pesky chime that I think didn't realy belong in the song, but the outro, the outro was a whole other thing not on the studio recording & it's just just gorgeous. Jimi does this incredible Wah Wah ending in E then sliding up to Eb, pauses then play's a descending run down the D string Wah' ring on each note to finish on the G add9 chord while Mitch is shimmering on the symbols'.

Jimi's slide on the first Am from the 5th fret to the open E.....is GORGEOUS!
You can hear every fret ticking by on the way down.....so simple, but his execution is impeccable!!!!!

I learnt this one a few years ago, but even when you know the notes and the chords, it's Jimi's nuances, and his deft touch, that makes it virtually impossible to play like him. I've seen and heard many great guitarists in my lifetime, but in my opinion Jimi remains the most talented, and one of the most natural guitarist I've ever come across. Coincidentally, I was going planing to go over this song again as I hadn't played it for a while, so this lesson will help me out.
I heard 'Hendrix in the West' (original UK LP, with the Royal Albert Hall performances) when I was a kid, and it blew my mind! It was one of the main reasons I learned to play guitar. Not a great experience at first; it was on my sister's old knackered acoustic that had bent tuners, and wouldn't stay in tune! Plus, I had no one to show my anything, there was no RUclips back then, and didn't know what I was doing, I just had to learn the hard way as I went along. No mp3's or software to help either, just an LP and your index finger to skip back to a section in a song, a nightmare, then, eventually cassettes came along - whoopee! In the end, I became quite good, and eventually ended up gigging in a band.
Picking up a guitar and playing gives me immense pleasure, and a satisfaction that's hard to explain. I guess it's the fact that after all those years of practice, you've managed to master an instrument to a decent enough standard to actually play something that people can appreciate.
The best advice I can give is practice, practice, practice!
    Great video. 👍

Thank you - fantastic explanation and demonstration! Back when I was at college in London around 1980, an American student taught me a nice version of Little Wing. In retrospect, it wasn't really true to the original, but still streets ahead of anything I'd seen a UK player do back then - and it certainly impressed my older brother who'd been a Hendrix fan in the '60s when I was next back home! 😉I'm really looking forward to working through your lesson to finally re-learn the song properly and gain fresh insight into some "Hendrix-isms" along the way.

When I started playing guitar, I couldn't afford lessons. Jimi was my favorite guitarist, and Little Wing was my favorite song to learn. I never got any good and never dreamed I'd ever play this whole song. I just want to thank you and the other RUclips channels for making it possible for me to pretty much have a dream come true. I'm sure your getting paid for this channel, I hope it's enough, and I hope these kids appreciate being able to learn guitar at this level for free. Thanks man....keep it up. I'll always put the emphasis on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd strings, but it never sounded quite right, so I'll be giving the whole song another go soon. At the moment, I'm going over a few Thin Lizzy songs in honour of Phil Lynott, unbelievably Phil left us 37 years ago on the 4th January 1986!

As for now, all of us thousands of guitarists have to tune down (and back up again) our guitars every time we try to follow your lesson. I just think it would have been easier to have all lessons in standard tuning even if the original recording is different.
