Learn how to play Wait Until Tomorrow as performed by the Jimi Hendrix Experience on the Axis: Bold as Love album. An absolute Jimi GEM from Axis: Bold as Love - I think that's my favorite Hendrix album of all of them. This is a happy, bouncing guitar jam that really just bops between an A and an E7sus with all kinds of crazy embellishments and chord extensions, and a myriad of Jimi's double-stops and hammer-ons smattered all through this. I guarantee the take before this and the take after it had slightly different phrasing, this is as loose and stream of consciousness as it comes.
I'll take you through the key guitar parts of the song, give a foundation of what he's doing in each of the 3 verses (each one incorporates something slightly new each time, then go through riff by riff what is happening from top to bottom.

I’ve never seen someone actually get Jimi’s playing right on this riff! Even John Mayer did it his own way. Amazing Doug!🎉
Thanks Sam! Tryin'!
Brilliant! The amazing Tim Pierce just showed the basics like you but said they are so many vamps and demonstrated 5 or 6 but said you could spend all day. JH was having so much fun.Thank YOU for taking the time
!
My favorite Hendrix album…so many good licks
This is such a great groove. I remember getting the double album for Christmas in the sixties. The first three albums are still my favourites.
Great song, but axis bold as love is not a double album. You may be confusing with electric ladyland
@@barstia7847 I know. I was there. Badly structured sentence. :-)
I love Jimi, and you are no slouch, either!!!! Very Correct way to do JIMI!!!!
What a great tune. I’ve wanted to play this since I first heard Jimi when I was a teenager. Time to give it a go!
I just revisited the Axis Bold as Love album the last 2 months. Awesome job on " de- mystifying" .. " Jimi's Stuff". Great sound , playing, breakdown, and lesson. Thanks!
Same, rediscovered it about a month ago, and forgot how good it was. I'll be doing a ton of those songs over time.
My favorite video you've done!!! Thank you!!!
Thank you so much... I've been listening to that song to get ready to learn it from some tab but your lesson is so much better than dredging through tab!
Fantastic as always, thanks
Several guitar players I’ve known have said that Jimi’s playing was just crazy guitar noise. When I show them this song it’s always hilarious to watch their eyebrows go up. They change their tune real quick.
I was a drummer and in bands in lates 60s at 14-15 but loved the first three albums and I have since added learning lead guitar so amazing to know how to play all these chops and vamps and improvisations! I loved AXIS and Electric Ladyland! But kinda went sour when they got rid of Mitch Mitchell! What an incredible drummer. No wonder Noel Redding had enough and left even before that.
Very nice! Your guitar turned out great.
You keep coming out with these great lessons on learning songs I still haven't got to do my my bad company and you keep adding more now I know why I'm subscribed to this channel the best lessons on the whole internet right here good job my friend
Thank you!
Great breakdown, love this Jimi tune! Maybe one day do a breakdown of "Remember", another great example of Jimi's excellent rhythm playing! 👍👍
Thanks for making us all better.
So grateful to have you as my instructor. Super excited to keep working with you. ❤
Love this tune! Been playing slightly wrong for years! Cheers!
That was insanely good, when you get around to another jimi song, would you have a go at long hot summer, i would really love a lesson on this, one hell of a groove, thanks man ❤👍🏻
Great to see you doing the "upside down Strat" thing. All part of the fun you bring to these lessons, without silly costumes. But hey, a paisley shirt and some beads might be fun too? Love it👍👏👏🙏
Good info... Love the tone!...deep lows. Gotta get my fingers to do that A chord with pull offs.
Great!
Don't remember this song at all,,but then again, Although a big fan of Jimi, I never owned many of his albums, But I really like this lose, happy feeling of this song ! Really puts you in a carefree mood !!! TY Bro,, excellent video !!! 😎✌️🎸🎶💕🎶💕
THAT WAS MY FAVORITE SONG ON THAT ALBUM :)
Me too.
Great lesson!! Jimi was just on a whole different level; on a different planet. I'm always astounded when I see a Hendrix video, and observe how huge his hands are!! It sometimes looks like the neck is a toy guitar. His thumb hangs halfway over the neck!!
Hey, if you're still taking new song suggestions, I've got one for you: The live version of Sweet Jane, Lou Reed off the Rock And Roll Animal album. Would love to see your take on the dual guitars of Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner...particularly the famous intro guitar solo with the two guitars.
🎉 what a fantastic video have you enjoyed playing guitar have a good weekend Doug ❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊
Great content. You're a good communicator/instructor. I'm suggesting a song(s). Probably not the first to suggest some deeper Doors cuts.
If you'd already done this one LMK and I'll check it out. "Unhappy Girl" is a good guitar song. It's on the first LP or maybe "Strange Days" Keep up the good work. Looks like you're sneaking up on the 100K subscriber mark.
As soon as I get some extra dough I'm a seasonal worker off until I start back in April will I be sending you some dough soon
Thanks
Thank you!
Could you please consider transcribing Robin Trower from mid 1970's .... Winterland concert . Take Care .
Beautiful work mate!
Just subbed!
P.S…..how’s that lefty strat working for ya? Nice n comfy???🤔 🫤
Didn’t think so 🤣
👍🇦🇺
Welcome! Yeah I can definitely see the benefit of the hendrix strat where the body is correct for a righty, but bridge pickup angle switched and the upside down neck. I may swap it out for that one day
excelente lección!gracias!!!
This is killer.Goin to Get my Inca Silver 2003 Highway one Roadhouse Strat
It would be nice to see you lay down the separate tracks and listen to the combined outcome
I'm also working on Maggie May the intro to Maggie May you are the greatest thanks
Right on!
If I can do this, then I can do anything.
Brilliant! How about Little Miss Strange 👍
12 FOOT CHAIN, Hendrix used Dominant7sus4 chord, which is based on the Major Pentatonic scale or what parent scale is the Dom7sus4 chord based from?
No idea
Can you do message in a bottle by the police
Why down to Eb?
He tuned to Eb on the song on the album, right?
@@12footchain I KNOW why you did it 👌I was wondering what is the advantage or desired effect, musically or physically, for him tuning down like that.
@@stevenspringer1599I think no one knows why exactly Jimi did it, but I heard one theory that he switched to Eb when he started singing- the half step made it a bit more comfortable, maybe.
Mate a quick play through before you start teaching the lesson would be extremely helpful 🙏
