    Yes,they saw it as a land of spices and riches.
    Why else will they embark on search of sea routes to India, eastward,westward,and northward,arduous and perilous sea journeys after falloff Constantinople and subsequent embargo of sea trade between India and Europe by ottoman rulers of Anatolia/Turikye.
