Hey Junior, the beauty of instantbond is that you can control the curing you can use the accelerator whenever your parts are ready. You have approx 8 min of curing time without the accelerator. Whenever your parts are aligned just spray on the accelerator and it will cure in seconds. This gives you so many more options. Rick
Josh, this is not intended to replace epoxy. I have been working with granite and marble for 30 years I've never seen anything bond so strong and so fast 10 seconds! A must for the shop or on installs for those special cases where speed and strength is needed. Hey, 300 shops and counting can't be wrong BTW, we won the "best new product award" National Hardware Show in Las Vegas Rick
I am with you man! I got 10 years in the industry and videos to prove it. I dont have alot of my videos on here but I have some with seams and I have never ever heard of or used this. I have done seams in shop and polished them out to minimize sight and eliminate feeling it. When we do a seam in house we do one in the sink cut out so it is very minimal. We use a vacuum pump to pull both pieces together and take extra time to ensure the counter is level and comes together real nice.
Always respect oldschool - I learned about hanging a plumb bob on a drill to keep it straight from old timers via a contractor. Any more suggestions that could make a big difference?
me as a installer always used liquid flowing glue mixed with the base color of granite. my seams takes about 10-15 minutes to dry. it gives me time to level all peaces and do all the seams at one time with same glue. obs: i glue 45 angled seams, 2-4 seams at counter tops all the same time after the splashs are on top. after i always use 2-5 different colors on epoxy. this glue looks nice to do a quick job if you dont need to level multiple pieces at same time.
Josh, I just read you reply and seen that you have done this for a long time..I just bought a kitchen that has the granite attached..a very high end kitchen and we are having to remove the granite ourseves and I am afraid of braking the granite slab..we are going to reused this kitchen in our new home...any tips on how to remove it without braking the slab..thanks so much for any helps..tips..or any ideas..Blessings, Kelly
I've been installing for about 20 years now and 100% agree with everyone that this is a horrible idea. I understand that this is just an example to show the speed and strength, but for any novice out there thinking they can just super glue a seam...DON'T! Always use either 2 part polyester or acrylic epoxy. I've only used CA glue to skim coat seams that I want to appear to have depth, as in seaming any quartzite or onyx. And NEVER use the aerosol activator. Unless you plan on tearing out that piece at a later date.
I've got 30 years in the Stone industry, better get use to it, there's nothing stronger or faster period, than Instantbond, it's Industrial grade cyanoacrylate use it with or without the accelerator whatever your need is, and of course this is not to replace polyester epoxy, just for special need and uses. A true necessity in the shop. Rick
@MovingUpp Akemi ( a 2 part epoxy) mixed with colorant and hardener is the best route to go. It lasts considerably longer than other products on the market and after you get the hang of your color mixing abilities, you can blend the seams to the granite and make them disappear. We generally mix a base color then place dots and streaks of other colors that are present in the granite within the seam to camouflage the seam even better. Just dont mix the seam to hot and you will love the product!
We here in Maine are highly regarded as being the best around at this and I can tell you from my experience I would never use super glue and never put a seeam together in such a hurry. I guess there is a difference in the shops that go for production and the ones who go for quality craftsmanship! I agree MrBionnick I havet ued it wouldnt use it and hope the competitors do:)
MaineGraniteGuy You right!!!! I been working with granite for only 12 years and I know the big difference between production and quality. I take care of level, matching colors for seam and the gap underneath.
any quality stone tech has their seam ready to go before they apply the epoxy, with little adjustments necessary. this product is very similar to one i use on a daily base. I am only 12 years young, now a business owner and i have repaired more two part epoxy seams in my 12 years than i can count. this type of product has not shown nearly the kind of deterioration that standard epoxy exhibits. it's simply and extremely durable, technology at its finest.
If your granite is outside and requires a seam your are going to want to use a particular glue type that can hold up to weathering. I’d highly recommend paying professionals to come preform your install. You’ll be happier with the result.
thanks for the video. Insta bond kit on eBay is going for about 30 bones. I'm going to see if i can do better than that. the edge I need to glue is about 38" long.
We use a two part appoxy and mix our own colors and run razor blades across the seam to make sure one side is not higher than the other there no way that this guys seam is perfect at all what so ever
Hey can someone please let me know if instabond can glue other materials like brass, silver, wood, and "Mother of pearl" to eachother? Please feel free to answer, cause ULThandyman prob won't answer, and I would be so thankfull for you sharing your knowledge. Greets
I came here looking for a product that would repair a .5" thick corian counter top that I was using for a built in desk top in my office. The wife is a little short thang and decided it would be perfectly fine to get up there and walk on it t reach the dust bunnies in the corner. LOL im thinking this stuff will work great for what i need. Now I just have to find where to buy it. the piece that broke of is a 24" x 26" triangle to the corner. broke like glass so it should be awesome for that.
Unlike this video I am not joining two granite pieces but I have an existing countertop where the seam appears to have weakened after years of use and is now leaking water through it. The gap is very small, maybe an eight of an inch at its very widest. Clearly I cannot do what the video shows since I cannot move the two pieces of granite apart to put adhesive on one end and spray accelerator on the other. Is this product still useful for resealing my granite seam or do I need to use something else? Do I need to worry about color? The existing countertop is maybe a dark grey color.
Melvin Menezes you buy epoxy and color kit Ebay. On a piece of carboard (white) from a package or something is best. Color the epoxy side until it's right. Then add hardener mix then apply with a popcicle stick the scape with a razor blade in immediately flat. Don't forget to prep surface.
This or hot stuff brand super glue. That's what I use, I've been doing this for years. Just put to pieces of tape on each side of the seam, and fill it with glue. The tape will allow you to run a razor blade down the seam, packing the glue in, and allow for shrinkage. Take a razor blade to it once dry to remove excess. May need to touch it up or do it twice to get best result...
You got to be careful with some of those superglue's and the accelerators, i've had it change the stone color a few times. I believe the stone it changed was santa cecilia classico, left a neon rusty looking spot that took DAYSSSSSSS to dry out.
you lucky that you got your slabs aligned perfectly, what if you didnt? with instabond there is no room for an error therefore, for this type of application, i will continue using my two part polymer resin. it may not be as strong as instabond, but it give me 1-2 minutes to align the slabs perfectly
HA,HA,HA, I have heard of this happening, this is BTW, is due to the chemical reaction of the Activator only It has never happened in our shop and I have not been able to reproduce it. Your right it will show up on random white based granites that has some iron deposits in it, but this is so rare we don't worry about it, as a precaution though we don't use the activator on White based granites so there isn't any issues. The product is just to good to be without.
This is the worst idea ever!!! Have been in the trade over 15 years owning my own business. That accelerator is going to cause blooming in several stones making giant green spots that grow... hard lesson learned for me about 9 years ago. Fixing a chip on the surface and the customer called and said his slab was growing mold so we had to replace the piece
@certified30 its still gonns be visible but if you do a good job you can make the seam really nice and flat so that you cant feel it...another way to make it hard to see is if you mix the epoxy color to match the granite
I work for my uncle n we been in business 27+years n wat this guy did in this video is sumthn that should NEVER be done...yea it might stick for a lil but i bet anything over the months it will crack...squash if u got any questions let me know...
I just had granite installed in my kitchen and the type that was used has small pockets or divots. Do I need to put a sealer to fill those places or something. When I rub my hand across the top it is rough polished but rough
I will buy it next I go to Home Depot. But, you can be sure that I will wear gloves because this is chemical and it is very bad for your nervous system. Think about it next time you make a video and advise peaple to wear gloves please.
ordered 4 of these online. Four days later no shipping info came. Called them in Canada Person on the other end was rude. saidthey were out of the product and hung up. Called back and he said he would refund the money. Finally did but VERY POOR CUSTOMER RELATIONS- I wont do business with them anymore.
ive been fabricating and installing for 28 years now...not selling products...and if i drys in 10 seconds thats not to good..dont yiu need time to work with the product to make a nice seam.
Very wrong...this is NOT the right way....ive been.doin granite counter tops for 17years...best way is epoxy add ur color mix and add the hardner and ur all set..

Bravery is not only found on the battlefield. It's also found in this guy's shop.

How do you undo the join if you had to move the kitchen to another house?

MaineGraniteGuy yes there's a difference lol that seam is prob shit lol
MaineGraniteGuy You right!!!! I been working with granite for only 12 years and I know the big difference between production and quality. I take care of level, matching colors for seam and the gap underneath.
Instabond it's nice and all but u forgot to add a skin coat on top with epoxy mixed to the right color!!
What do you use to fill the gap at joints between countertop and back splash
use a color match caulk
any quality stone tech has their seam ready to go before they apply the epoxy, with little adjustments necessary. this product is very similar to one i use on a daily base. Kelly when u say break..are u reffering to the seam part?
I am putting granite on my outside deck rails......Can I add granite dust (from cutting my granite) to add color? Will this stuff yellow in the Sun?
i think you can do it because this bonds everything like you see.. but after loongg time how looks?
Lori Guerrero just get epoxy and a dye kit you can get the color how ever you want it
Just make sure the glue isn't all the way at the top when to pull the seam you can put a coat on to of that to match the stone

Hi. Is instabond available in the UK?
is there a way or a technique from your years of experience to completly make the seam invisible?
you lucky that you got your slabs aligned perfectly, what if you didnt? with instabond there is no room for an error therefore, for this type of application, i will continue using my two part polymer resin. it may not be as strong as instabond, but it give me 1-2 minutes to align the slabs perfectly
Which brand resin do you use?

You are 100% correct sir
Yea either with shims if u like old skool or a seamer which is more easier
@certified30 its still gonns be visible but if you do a good job you can make the seam really nice and flat so that you cant feel it...another way to make it hard to see is if you mix the epoxy color to match the granite

I just had granite installed in my kitchen and the type that was used has small pockets or divots. Do I need to put a sealer to fill those places or something. When I rub my hand across the top it is rough polished but rough
Yes, All granite needs to be sealed...Most do it annually.
If sealed write with the sealer I used it's guaranteed for 15 years.
I agree
I will buy it next I go to Home Depot. But, you can be sure that I will wear gloves because this is chemical and it is very bad for your nervous system. Think about it next time you make a video and advise peaple to wear gloves please.
