These are things that we are not taught in tutorials, this is the main reason to appreciate yours. The simple basics are the most important ones. Thanks!
Hi there, fantastic video. I'm new to quilting and me first effort i purchased charm squares, expensive. Now i have some yardage and there you are with easy to follow instructions. Thanks a million for sharing your knowledge and expertise.
You make cutting with your rotary cutter look so easy! Somehow when I cut the ruler (usually as I reach the end) always seems to move away from the cutter and I spoil my cut😢. Maybe you can give me a tip - maybe I don’t used the cutter properly? I don’t know!
The main things are keep pressure on the ruler, have a sharp blade in the rotary cutter and hold the rotary cutter upright - not on a slant. If you have trouble with the ruler slipping, cut part way and then move your hand up the ruler and apply pressure once again. You can also add a weight to the end of the ruler furthest from you and that may help. Practice with some scraps until you get the hang of it. I was hopeless when I first started using a rotary cutter, having come from a time where we only had scissors.
Please help. I can't find the chart on your website that you mentioned about how to tell how much yardage we need to cut squares for our projects. I did find a couple of different blog post like the one that goes with this video but have yet to find this chart you tell us to go see. Please help. Very nicely done video! Thank you!
In the end we didn't do an actual chart on the blog post but the information is listed under the heading 'How many 10″ squares can you cut from your fabric?'
@@alandacraft It would be nice if you made the chart for those that don't know how to figure out how many charms, layer cakes and such they can get from a yard. It would be nice to have that chart that was mentioned that covered those different sizes so one could see at a glance. Might be nice to mention in the description of this video too that one was never put on the website so folks like me don't spend a lot of valuable time looking for something that really isn't there. Thank you!
That is a frixion pen, It's heat erasable, Monique. Here is a link to amazon amzn.to/3yA63Th and also a link to our review www.alandacraft.com/2014/11/07/frixion-pen-review-fabric-pens-for-quilters/
Just scroll to the bottom of the post and you will see it there. It's not in chart format - you will see it as dot points. Here's the link: www.alandacraft.com/2018/11/30/cut-10-layer-cake-squares/
Did i misunderstand, aren’t layer cake 10” square, so i don’t understand 18”? A yard is 36”, so 3 - 10” cuts per yard, 6” left. When purchasing I’d add 5” so I can use all the fabric for 10” layer cuts.
That's a good idea to get extra to get the maximum use out of your fabric. Sometimes we just need a few squares and use fabric on hand. We do have a list of the number of squares that can be gotten from different yardage. on the website. www.alandacraft.com/2018/11/30/cut-10-layer-cake-squares/. This was just a quick tutorial to show how to cut 10" squares from yardage.,

You cut 8 10" squares from a yard of fabric when it should have been 12? What am I missing?
